Olympus C-770 Reviews

Excellent one

I bought this in mid 2005 at Bristol Camera, Bristol. I got a japanese make and that too at a jackpot price of just 250 pounds ( incl. extra memory of 512 MB , Tripod, intl warranty and lens cleaner). I have taken about 2000 snaps and I enjoyed taking pictures. I think C770 is poor in low light but can be used very effectively with c770 external flash. Though S2 is better than this the size of c770 is a winner you can put into your coat pocket and use it wherever you go. Remote is the biggest advantage of C770. The model is not available in market but it's price has doubled in few US stores from about $299 to about $550. So I got a camera which has very good value for money !!!!

Please visit pbase and check out Wayne's pictures, I hope your eyes will believe that those magnificient pictures are from C770

Thanks

A professional camera for amateur prices

A truly professional camera allowing users to set up shutter speed and aperture manually, this camera can beat any other camera in its +20% price range hands on. A super macro mode allows you to take pictures as close as a couple of centimetres and a 10x optical zoom makes sure that your target is never too far from you. It also features a sports mode that allows you to take pictures without motion blur and three algorithms of light adjustments makes sure that you can adjust the lighting depending on the surroundings. Also it allows taking pictures in TIFF format and even the default format of JPEG also creates very small photographs (Less than half in size to same sized pictures from a sony cam). In addition to these, some features also exist that usually arent mentioned on the reviews. A remote control that allows you to take self photographs at ease and not run to your position to beat the timer (although it features a timer too). It also has a viewfinder that has a dioptre control to allow users with hypermetropia to view their targets without glasses. It also features an external 5 pin flash connectivity that can be programmed to fire depending on the shooting conditions. It also allows lenses to be added to the existing ones so in case you need a wide view lens, that can be mounted on top of the existing lens. The flip side is that these lenses will be available only from olympus. It takes video in Quicktime format which makes them very small and hence allows longer videos to be stored in memory. The only drawbacks that this camera suffers from are its weight and construction. Although you cannot complain about weight in a camera that has 11 lenses but the extra weight along with the protruding zoom lenses makes sure that you will drop this camera only once. So in case you are interested in photography and dont have butter fingers, I would suggest that this is the best piece of equipment you can buy for this price.

Full manual controls, so that you can adjust shutter speed, aperture and manual zoom. A great 10X optical zoom lens that's perfect for sports/nature photography, a big, bright electronic viewfinder, and the ability to focus down to a half an inch make the 4-megapixel Olympus C-770 Ultra Zoom a camera that enthusiasts can deploy for serious work. Its ability to save photos in TIFF format, its hotshoe for mounting an external flash, and its robust MPEG-4 moviemaking capabilities add to its appeal for the dedicated shooter. Yet you don't have to be an experienced photographer to take advantage of this versatile camera. A dozen automatic shooting modes; sophisticated exposure, flash, and white-balance automation; and simple controls make this Olympus a camera that a neophyte can grow with. Its chief shortcomings are its lack of a raw photo mode and its nonassisted autofocus, which dawdles under low-contrast lighting conditions. If you can live with QuickTime movies instead of MPEG-4 and can spend on a tripod if you are a serious zoomer, then this is a great camera. The movies can be converted into any format with simple software that is downloadable, like the ImTOO Mpeg encoder, and then the possibilities are limitless. It is considered the best camera in its range and is much cheaper than the other cameras in the same range. Try it out, you'll love it. Check out some sample photographs that I have taken on https://geocities.com/santosh_namby/index.html ;

PS: It is two and a half years since I bought this camera. IT is still doing great.
