Nizhny Novgorod, One of The Oldest Russian City

If you anytime happen to visit Russia, my advice is not to miss a visit to city Nizhny Novgorod that is situated at 400 kilometers from Moscow, the capital city of Russia. I have lived in this city for more than five years and could not avoid writing a review on this historical city.

History: This city was founded in the year 1221 and known as Novgorod meaning new city. Famous Russian writer and revolutionist Maxim Gorky was born in this city in the year 1868 and during his lifetime, it was renamed after him as'Gorky'. However, after the disintegration of ex Soviet Union, it was again renamed as'Nizhny Novgorod' meaning lower Novgorod during mid 1990s as another city by name Novgorod already existed then. It was so named since it is located at down stream of Moscow, the capital city.

About The City: Famous historical river Volga bisects the city Nizhny Novgorod exactly into two halves. The right bank of the river is much higher than the left bank and if one stands on the right river bank, a beautiful view of the lower half of the city can be achieved. There are many other small cities like Dzerzhinsky, Pavlovo, Tomkino and many others are there administered by the Governor of Nizhny Novgorod. This region is a rich industrial one wherein many industries like steel, buses are functioning. Currently, this city has also become a principal business center of Russia wherein many international companies have their offices. On the right bank of Volga, there are hilly areas which become covered with dense snow cover wherein many people would be skating from top to down. It is an amazing experience to skate there. There are hundreds of very old churches since the people of this city are mainly Christians.

Tourism: Many tourists from all around the world visit everyday to this beautiful city. One can travel from Moscow by train which is an overnight journey or even by air which takes a little more than an hour and a quarter. To enjoy the beautiful natural scenery, one can even choose to ride on a ship that travels to this city from Moscow which can take one and half a day. There are many luxurious hotels in this city to accommodate guests. Taxi service is available plentifully to have a ride through the city and the regions of it. On May 9, the victory of World War II is celebrated on the right bank of the river Volga where lacs of people gather to see the air parade of war planes which is very amusing to view. If you are from India, then you can also find Indian food there.

I recommend everyone to visit this city at least once in lifetime and I assure no disappointment will be there after the visit for sure.
