The art of weard progression
Feb 27, 2017 04:54 AM2844 Views

Nirvana was an American rock band formed by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic. The band was formed in Washington on1987.Kurt Cobain was with the guitar and vocals and Krist Novoselic was the bass player of the band. Then came Dave Grohl who joined Nirvana as the drummer.Dave Grohl now is the front man and the guitar player of the rock band named Foo Fighters.Nirvana released their first album in the late 1980s named Bleach for the independent record label sub pop.Nirvana made a extraordinary success when the released the song "Smells like teen sprit".The band was toching the heights of success, they were going very good. But then after a big turn came for the band and for the fans too.The world was shoked when they heard that the front man of Nirvana was no more alive.Since its debut the band had sold over 25 million records in the United States of America. and over 75 million records worldwide.Nirvana had a different kind of musicality with them.Their different ways of playing the chords and their different chord progression made their songs sound amazingly different. The band became the best selling bands of all time. But due to the death of Kurt Cobain Nirvana came into an end.Every one was totally shoked. It was 1994 when the world came to know about it.But then after many years Dave Grohl the drummer of Nirvana started with his new band doing vocals and guitar. The band was named as Foo Fighters, and it was a rock band.Nirvana used dynamic shifts that were from quiet to loud.Nirva released its first single, a cover of shoking blues love buzz in November 1988.The following month the band began recording their debut album  named Bleach. The album was highly influenced by the heavy dirge rock on the Melvins and Mudhoney.Following the release of Bleach on 1989 Nirvana got its first national tour and the album became the favorite of college radio station. After that the band got a great success with the release of  the album named Nevermind.

Kurt Cobain, shot dead because of...
Dec 11, 2007 12:27 AM2870 Views

I don't need to give a description on 'Nirvana'. AnAmerican rock band that was formed by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington. All good things comes to an end but it wasn't the same with Kurt Cobain. The man who introduced new life to music, thrashing his guitar in fashion had something more to talk about. He loved his wife and his life was little bit of eccentric with a mix of psychic emotions hidden in him. A name which was supposed to talk about freedom from... had come to an end with Death ! Oh yes, Irony !!! During the last years of his life, Cobain struggled with drug addiction and the media pressures surrounding him and his wife, Courtney Love. On April 8, 1994, Cobain was found dead in his home in Seattle, the victim of what was officially ruled a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head. In ensuing years, the circumstances of his death became a topic of fascination and debate. Was he shot dead or a planned suicide? Now this shouldn't ponder much to your thoughts since we all miss him and things may bother us bit too much so let's not talk about it !!

Cobain's life changed at the age of seven when his parents divorced, an event which he later cited as having a profound impact on his life. His mother noted that his personality changed dramatically, with Cobain becoming more withdrawn. In a 1993 interview, Cobain said, "I remember feeling ashamed, for some reason. I was ashamed of my parents. I couldn't face some of my friends at school anymore, because I desperately wanted to have the classic, you know, typical family. Mother, father. I wanted that security, so I resented my parents for quite a few years because of that." A man who believed in eating fish since they didnt have any feelings, believed in himself making the entire world happy by keeping those painful memoirs beneath his big brown eyes. Empathy, and I feel empathy upon him but do you think will it make any difference? No !!!!

Disaster !!!!!!!!

Courtney Love first saw Cobain perform in 1989 at a show in Portland, Oregon the pair talked briefly after the show and Love developed a crush on him. Was it more of a Drug connection? I know nothing much about it however he revealed himself to a magazine quoting "I can't believe how much happier I am. At times I even forget that I'm in a band, I'm so blinded by love. I know that sounds embarrassing, but it's true. I could give up the band right now. It doesn't matter, but I'm under contract."

He had so much hidden in him which probably would have made up his mind killing himself but did Courtney had something to talk about it? No, she rather used F&^k & B$^%^$d on him seeing his suicidal note. Now does anybody know the real cause? A man who tasted  marijuana at the age of 11 can be called a a psychedelic personality but there is something behind all these stories & the emotional punk did destroy many hearts on the April 5, 1994. I always hated Aries !! Now, it doesnt have to do anything with those who are born with the Sun sign 'Aries'. Love read portions of Cobain's suicide note to the crowd and broke down, crying and chastizing Cobain. Near the end of the vigil Love arrived at the park and distributed some of Cobain's clothing to those who still remained. Cobain's body was cremated. There are debate going around his life and death ! But the real fact is not told to the world ! Like he said, Love, Peace & Empathy !!

Come As You Are .....
Aug 23, 2007 05:37 PM2882 Views

I hope I'm writing in the right thread, about the right music and the right things..... That’s because other posts compelled me to think otherwise!!! I intend no offence to The Kurt Cobain fans, for I think that he was definitely one of the cult figures Who redefined the music scene in 1990's.

But the review is not about Kurt or about his Grainy, indifferent and haunting vocals, it’s about a particular compilation of songs (Which otherwise would not have been complete without Dave Grohl's drumming and Silken-smooth bass of Krist Novolesic).

This was one of the first Nirvana albums I Listened and to date remains one of my favorite..... Nirvana music (Its 'Grunge' rock, As I’m told it is called), is a heady mixture of loudness and melody - while some of the Songs go beyond the decibels level, others are amazingly quiet and melodious.

1) You Know you’re Right (3:38) - This is the last official song recorded by the Band (source:Wikipedia), needless to say the song lives up to its expectation. The Most unusual feature of the song is the unusual range of vocal rendered by Kurt - Ranging from slow, medium-pitched to high-pitched. While Kurt starts off with a slow Almost timid and whining sound, he finishes with a high crescendo of paiiiiiiiiinnn, what you would witness is perhaps is eclectic chords lent by the Guitarists. This is definitely a vintage grunge and vintage Nirvana.

2) About a Girl (2:49 ) - Characterized by regular riffs this is a typical and more rythmatic of Nirvana songs, very regular guitar sounds (a touch to harsh, after all it is Grunge!!!!!). This definitely being one of the 'Nicer' Nirvana songs (FYI - So much for Cobain and his love for punk rock, he was a huge beatles fan). The song, as it is Rumored, is based of Kurt's girlfriend and is very autobiographic.

3) Been a Son (2:23) - Again a very regular Nirvana with very fast drumming by Grohl. This, in my opinion has been a stand apart in Nivana's music, the drumming has been Short and very fast (Heavy metal being a bit more rythmic and thrash definately being More harder). I think Dave has been the unsung hero for lot of Nirvana's songs.

4) Sliver (2:14) - Autobiographical. Loud and a bit depressing. It is said that Kurt's Parents used to drop him to his grandmother's place. This song describes his angst And rebellion then. However there's no certainty to this story. Drumming steals the show again.

5) Smells Like Teen Spirit (5:01) - To a rock music enthusiast, this song needs Introduction - fabulous riffs, watery bass and explosive drumming, the song has it all. Touted as a song for generation-x 'Smells like Teen Spirit' (or SLTS as it is known as) Was a chartbuster which even went on to displace Michael Jackson from its top Position. Characterized by typical non-coherent and mumbling lyrics, the song may not be a poet's dream but is a headbanger's paradiso !!!!

6) Come as You Are (3:39) - Coming from the same album as SLTS, the song has made A mark of its own, what stuck me by when first time I heard this song was the sheer Contradiction in it ('Come as a trend, as a friend, as a known enemy...'). The middle Bass piece is flowing and fabulous. If you happen to visit Aberdeen (in USA, near Washington DC, it’s the town where Kurt grew up) you'll see a board in honor of Kurt Which says "Welcome to Aberdeen - Come as You Are".

7) Lithium (4:17), In Bloom (4:15 ) - Kind of 'Ho-hum' Nirvana songs (strictly personal Opinion), hummable but not memorable. Very regular in sound.

8) Heart-Shaped Box (4:41), Pennyroyal Tea (3:38)- Heart-shaped box was one of The last Nirvana songs quite set apart by Kurt's vocals - one of the amazing strength Kurt had was the range of his vocals, Pennyroyal tea is one of my favorite Nirvana Tracks, however I like the MTV unplugged version more - both the songs add a very Different dimension to the Nirvana music.

9) Rape Me (2:51 ) , Dumb(2:34 ) - Rape me appears on the 'B' side of the album (I Listened it a long time back), the song actually comes as a shock in, what is a usual Very quite and rhythmic Nirvana numbers, high pitched vocals and drumming are the ones' to look out for. Dumb is again a soft number talking about drugs and their Effects-nice and hummable.

10) All Apologies (3:51), the Man Who Sold the World (Original by David Bowie, 3:47), Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Unplugged, 5:08)-

All apologies is again a memorable Nirvana track - soft, apologetic and a little amusing, The song has got quite a depressing feel to it, but somewhere it touches a chord.

When I heard the Man who sold the world for the first time, I said to me "This is The most painfully brilliant guitaring I’ve ever heard", originally by David Bowie (which I’ve not heard) Kurt has rendered a unique indifference and voice to it. Before starting this song in the MTV unplugged album Kurt says "I guarantee you, I'll screw this up" - How Ironic!!!

The last track in the album is not a vintage Nirvana but a rather different side of the Band, the song is again powered by Kurt’s vocals and rhythm guitar.

As I look to sign off I'm falling short of words for the band and for the music, i'll just Sign off with afew lines from SLTS "I'm worse at what I do best and for this gift I feel blessed".

Bless you Kurt Cobain , Bless you Nirvana.

GOD I Miss you.......

This review is dedicated to my Friend Rehan, the biggest Kurt fan I have ever met in life. And I am so very thankful to him for introducing me to Nirvana and the God named Kurt Cobain.

Born on Feb 20, 1967 in Hoquaim, a small town 140 kms south-west of Seattle, Kurt Donald Cobain was the leader of Nirvana, the multi-platinum grunge band that redefined the sound of the nineties.

His mother was a cocktail waitress and his father an auto mechanic. Quite soon in his life, Cobain moved to a nearby depressing town called Aberdeen. Most of his childhood, Kurt was more of a sickly bronchitis child and things went bad with

him once when during his seventh year in this world, his parents divorced. It was later agreed by Cobain that his parent's traumatic split had a lot of influence in Nirvana's music. This divorce also led to a time in Cobain's life where he lived alone under a bridge. Some time back I read an article which said ''When Cobain was eleven he heard and was captivated by the Britain's Sex Pistols and after their self-destruction Cobain and friend Krist Novoselic continued to listen to the wave of British bands including Joy Division the nihilistic post-punk band that some say Nirvana are directly descended from in form of mood, melody and lyrical quality.''

By 1985, Cobain had moved to Olympia and formed/joined a series of bands before Nirvana came into the picture in 1986. During that time, Nirvana was a very volatile alliance between Cobain, bassist Krist Novoselic and the eventual drummer and multi-instrumentalist Dave Grohl.

By 1988, Nirvana were doing shows and had demo tapes going around. In 1989 Nirvana recorded their first album Bleach.

Nirvana were actually the first in many a things. One such thing was to be the first non-mainstream band to sign a mega-label. This had come after they had attended instant popularity and recognition in Britain and Geffen bought their contract in 1989. Nevermind, a series of different, crunching, screaming songs that along with it's first single Smells Like Teen Spirit would propel Nirvana to mainstream stardom was released under the same label in 1993-94.

While making Smells Like Teen Spirit, Cobain used a seductive hookline to hook the listener. This made the song an instant hit and a highly acclaimed song. Nevermind went on to sell ten million copies and make a reported $550 million (US) leaving Nirvana overnight millionaires. Still 24, Cobain could not take in the life style of a highly influential rock star and he fell in to the dirty world of Heroin. Once confronted on it, he said he used it to cover up the distress caused by rigorous demands of touring and to stop the pain of stomach ulcers.

This period saw Cobain and Nirvana reach the heights of popularity and Kurt was actually distressed to find out that what he wrote and how it was interpreted could quite often be miles apart. He was appalled when he found out that Polly a heavily ironic anti-rape song had been used as background music in a real gang rape. He later appealed to fans on the Incesticide liner notes ''If any of you don't like gays or women or blacks, please leave us the f*ck alone.'' It was to no avail, Cobain found that as an overnight millionaire musician control was something he had very little of. Cobain also worried that his band had sold-out, that it was attracting the wrong kind of fans (i.e the type that used to beat him up during his childhood.)

In 1992, Cobain got married to the already pregnant Courtney Love in Hawaii. Later in the same year, Nirvana made another hit release, Incesticide followed by the birth Frances Bean Cobain. This year also saw Kurt being hospitalized for treatment of Heroin abuse.

In early 1993 In Utero was released into the top spot on the music charts. In Utero was widely acclaimed by the music press and it contains some of Cobain's most passionate work. In Utero was a lot more open than Nirvana's previous albums. Songs like All Apologies and Heart Shaped Box detailed aspects of Cobain's sometimes shaky marriage, other songs like Scentless Apprentice detailed the agonies and struggles of Cobain's experiences.

1993 was another trademark year in Nirvana's history. The band embarked on a support tour and recorded and filmed an ''unplugged'' (acoustic) performance for MTV in November of 1993. Nirvana's choice to honor bands and people that had influenced them and Cobain's passionate and intense vocals especially on ''Where Did You Sleep Last Night?'' silenced many of their who had labeled Cobain talent less. For the first time during the running of this year itself, rumors circulated that the MTV Unplugged compilation would be Nirvana's last album and the band were splitting up.

Cobain was a gun fanatic and always had several in his possession or in various forms of confiscation.

The northern winter of 1993-94 was the time when every thing started to change for Kurt Cobain. Twenty concerts into an extensive European tour, Cobain developed throat problems and their schedule was interrupted while he recovered.

On March the 4th Cobain was rushed to hospital in a coma after an unsuccessful suicide bid in which he washed down about fifty prescription painkillers with champagne. The suicide bid was officially called an accident and was not even made known to close friends and associates. After a lot of counseling from Courtney, friends and his then manager's Cobain finally agreed to take a detox program, but as per the missing person's report filled by his mother, he fled the program in L.A. after the first few elementary days itself.

Days later after being sited in Seattle with a shotgun, on the 5th of April Kurt barricaded himself into a flat behind his mansion, put a shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger.

Cobain's body was found when an electrician visiting the house to install a security system went round the back of the house when no one answered the front door and peered through windows. He thought he saw a mannequin sprawled on the floor until he noticed a splotch of blood by Cobain's ear. When police broke down the door they found Cobain dead on the floor, a shotgun still pointed at his chin and on a nearby counter a suicide note written in red ink addressed to Love and the couples then 19 month old daughter Frances Bean.

The suicide note ended with the words ''I love you, I love you.'' Two days after Kurt Cobain's body was found about 5,000 people gathered in Seattle for a candlelight vigil. The distraught crowd filled the air with profane chants, burnt their flannel shirts and fought with police. They also listened to a tape made by Cobain's wife in which she read from his suicide note. Several distressed teenagers in the U.S. and Australia killed themselves.

Till date, the investigation is in progress on whether this was a real time suicide or a murder that includes many a people as suspects including Courtney Love. The opinion of Nirvana fans is seemingly divide on this, but as far as my study on this topic is concerned; I support the group accusing Courtney Love.

Most of the content above is actually a combination of my thoughts and passion for Nirvana and Kurt Cobain and the material available on the Internet. Please feel free to rate this revu and put up your queries and feedback in the comments section.

You Know You're Right!!
Mar 21, 2006 07:58 PM2690 Views

Music….I can listen to any kind! I used to say. But Rock? Nah!! Not my cup of tea. Till four months back, rock to me was more of noise and less or no music.

Rock or grunge music has its worshippers all across the globe but I always knew this kind of music is not for me. Though in my mind I never had any barriers or inhibitions for not listening to rock but always thought I kind of don’t fit into that genre of music. Then a friend, who happened to be a major Kurt Cobain fan, introduced me to Nirvana. The first ever rock number that I listened to, or rather which he made me listened to, was ‘Where Did U Sleep Last Night’.

A chill ran down my spine the moment I heard those shrieks. The lyrics were though quite suggestive in themselves and I asked him, “What made him cry in front of a live audience? Is it that his girl has slept with sumone else that has hurt him and so he is crying his heart out?” Quite amused at my naivety, he smiled, and then brought me face to face with the man who sold the world. What he reminiscenced left me flabbergasted. Anecdotes after anecdotes about Kurt’s life, his music, his stint with heroin, his albums and his suicide, followed.

I promise you that in the passage to follow I won’t bore you guys with biographical insights of the life of this unbelievable legend maniac called Kurt Donald Cobain. But lets cogitate about this leader of the grunge band that redefined the sounds of the nineties in our own trifle way.

He was too much of an erratic moody baby! Had a painful childhood shuttling between respective houses of his separated parents, also had spent some homeless nights under bridge. When eleven he was captivated by Britain’s punk rock bands and in 1986 Nirvana was born. Dissatisfaction, nihilism, apathy and stoicism are the qualities that come out of his otherwise indecipherable https://lyrics. Quite a loner all his life, was unable to tackle the pressures and responsibilities

that came along with the behemothic and gargantuan popularity. Some of his critics took pleasure in calling him a loser, but would you call someone a loser who gave up his life because ‘IT WAS BETTER TO BURN OUT THAN TO FADE AWAY’

Well what better way to end this article than to quote one of his songs. It goes to all my fellow Kurt’s fans, but if u r not a Kurt fan this goes to you also. Enjoy it!!

My heart is broke

I have some glue

Help me inhale, mend it with you

We’ll float around, hang out on clouds

Then we’ll come down

And

Have a hangover

Have a hangover

With all my love. Kurt, wish you were alive!!

The Band That Rocked The world
Mar 19, 2006 07:12 PM2156 Views

The year was 1994. There was a small band(not because of their following but because of its number of members). It's Lead singer had committed suicide addressing his suicide note to Buddha(Boddha is the way he calls it). The fact was that Kurt Cobain at that time did'nt realize that he was more popular than buddha himself. Giving his excuse for suicide as not being able to feel the music he makes, the crazy but inventive genius took a rifle and shot himself. Some may think that his wife killed him but that's a different issue.

Nirvana had to disband with its drummer going o the Foo Fighters and its bassist going to form his own Grunge superband. The greatest band on earth no longer existed. The death of their lead singer and lead guitarist was just a bit too much for them.

Nirvana was formed by Kurt Cobain and Krist Nosoloveic(I think I messed up the spellings). They were later joined by the drummer Dave Grohl. At the beginning stages they were like any other band; playing in the basement and making local crowds enjoy themselves. But it was after the song 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' that they attained immense popularity. Here's a review of some of their songs:

Smells Like Teen Spirit:

Probably the greatest song ever performed by Nirvana. The basic theme of the song itself is amazing(although no one knows what it is). The lyrics as usual dont make much sense but yes it has been compensated by a godly voice and a brilliant guitar. The solo is not all that amazing but the way the song starts really thrills everyone. The way Kurt sings:'Hello,Hello,Hello, How Low' is unthinkable.

In Bloom:

A really crazy song. The Lyrics go like this:

'Sell ur kids for food

Weather changes Moods...'

Really the work of a genius. The solo is just breathtaking(extremely amplified). The drumming is just Pro and it is heard prominently during guitar gaps. Kurt addresses the song to his fan who keeps listening to Nirvana although he is not quite able to understand the https://lyrics. The starting is just brilliant with a huge bang on the drums and brilliant use of pedals.

Heart Shaped Box:

This song probably has the craziest lyrics in the world. It goes like this:      'She has me like a pisces when I am Weak

I've been locked inside ur heartshaped box for weeks...'

The worst part is when he says:

'I wish I cud eat ur cancer when u turn black(!!!!!???!?!)'

But as usual the god has made up for the lyrics with brilliant guitaring and pro singing.

Well, there are many more songs like Come As You Are, Lithium, Rape Me and 'The man who sold the world'. It will probably take me another 80000 words to write about them coz they are just pro.

THIS IS FOR YOU KURT.....WE LOVE YOU!!!
Oct 17, 2005 06:35 PM2392 Views

In the first quarter of the past decade, any kid with their antennae trained to pop culture knew and understood an object called Kurt. A lonesome, doleful guitarist from the United States' Pacific north-west had emerged as one of the early 1990s' most recognisable artefacts.

Ten years ago, Cobain's notoriety as a disconsolate artist was set in concrete when he took his own life. The founder and songwriter of grunge rockers, Nirvana, Cobain was discovered dead from a self-administered gunshot to the head.

It was three days before an electrician found Cobain's body in the greenhouse above the garage in the musician's Seattle home. It was three days before many of so-called Generation X were stunned to learn that their anti-hero had given up his fight.

To gauge Cobain's popularity is simple: He claimed enough airtime, ink and eyeballs to be a bona fide celeb. To assess his legend and his resonance is a trickier affair.

For the young adults of the early 1990s, Cobain articulated an era of particular angst through gesture and song. The day news broke of Cobain's suicide earnest pop sociologists appeared on television to warn parents to remain vigilant upon discovering Nirvana CDs in the home.

After Cobain's suicide, the music industry quickly assessed how much money it could make. Fortunes and careers were founded on the back of Cobain's death.

Not the least remarkable of which was that of his shrill widow, Courtney Love. After delivering a televised, obscenity-peppered eulogy, Love slimmed down, toned-up and racked up some notable public achievements.

These feats, including a Golden Globe award and certified platinum status for her album Celebrity Skin, were made all the impressive for the fact they were earned by someone so contentedly talent free.

Cobain openly rejected the corporate machinery of the entertainment industry and the racism, queer-baiting and misogyny familiar to rock'n'roll. He gave the middle finger to mainstream culture, but did so with the kind of fractured, attention-deficient laziness characteristic of his age-mates.

Cobain was the agonised loafer. Suffering nearly all of the talk-show-friendly indignities of his generation including divorced parents, the amphetamine Ritalin and dyslexia, he somehow emerged to critique it all.

Cobain remains an underachieving superhero that enunciated our peculiar laziness like no other.

Sorry guys, I did not find any threads to write something on Kurt, and I am a real lazy bum to request a new thread on Kurt.

Nirvana: Still In Bloom....
Apr 07, 2005 09:37 AM2741 Views

The high water mark of the past few days has to be my new found obsession with nirvana. It was not until recently that the video of 'Smells like teen spirit' caught my eye and I plunged into this new world of sonic resonance. Since then I have been listening to so much of their music and reading so much about them that my sister is convinced that I am going through some sort of bizarre identity crisis phase (don't ask!).

I came across the albums chart and I was really stunned to see that Nevermind- nirvana's second album was still among the top 40 selling albums on the list. I realized that there may be another Audio slave, Britney Spears or Maroon5 but Nirvana reign supreme!

Here is the lowdown on their larger than life rock career Kurt Cobain(1967-1994) the lead singer of Nirvana , born Kurt Donald Cobain on February 20, 1967, in Hoquiam, Washington, lead a 'less than perfect' life like most of us.

His band also consisting of Dave Grohl, and Chris Novoselicwas one of the major exponents of grunge, the Seattle-based style of rock music that became successful worldwide in the early 1990's during the decaying punk and mellow Michael Jackson and Van Halen(hope I spelt that right) music scene.

The first major recognition of Nirvana's abilities was the success of the band's second album, Nevermind, in 1991 which was produced along with Butch Vig (who is the current band-member of Garbage with Shirley Manson). This was followed by a single, Smells Like Teen Spirit, that latter became an anthem for millions of young people who felt alienated by worsening career prospects and the increasing power of multinational corporations. Thus they single handedly launched a new genre of music.

Millions of teenagers especially in the 'Still trying to find my own identity' phase of their life struck a chord with Nirvana's distorted guitar and rasping https://lyrics. This album guaranteed them world-wide success. But fame only magnified the lead singer Kurt Cobain's insecurities.

He went on to marry Courtney Love, singer-songwriter with the grunge band Hole in 1992. Their daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, was born in the same year. Constant media attention led to revelations of drug-taking. This feeling of malaise intensified in his later songs, particularly on the 1993 album, In Utero.

On April 8, 1994, Cobain's body was discovered at his Seattle home. He had APPARENTLY committed suicide by shooting himself in the head (I also read that he had taken 1.54 mgs of cocaine - 3 times the normal dose, a very high content, even for a drug addict).

I read somewhere that Kurt Cobain's suicide seemed to symbolize the uncertainty of his generation. With all due respect to the people who wrote that, I disagree. I feel that so many people find solace in his songs because the subjects of a fractured family environment or of melancholy because every time they hear it, they can feel his incredible persona resonate around them. And no matter what people may say, he wasn't just a 'flash in the pan' drug-abused rock star.

I might not know what the lines 'Bruises on the fruit, Tender age in bloom' mean, but I do know that He was most certainly the pin-up boy for this generation of insecure teens and arguably the greatest singer/songwriter of the music history yet. I know he's got my vote.

Rock On!

Nirvana-you got it...
Mar 08, 2005 01:50 AM2495 Views

NIRVANA: n./1 : The ineffable ultimate in which one has achieved disinterested wisdom and compassion. (The Buddha).

If the 70's and 80's lived on Lennon's legendary words ''You may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one'', then for grunge lovers worldwide, Kurt Donald Cobain's mesmerising lines ''I'm worst at what I do best and for this gift I feel blessed'' (from Smells Like Teen Spirit') is certainly what keeps them going.

Ten years on, NIRVANA BLACK has been released which is an epitome of NIRVANA classic songs, and is a must buy for any Nirvana fan, if not for anything, but just for Cobain's last recorded, previously unreleased song, ''You know you're right''.

All the best songs from Bleach,Incesticide,Nevermind and In Utero are here, from All Apologies, Lithium, Come As You Are, Smells Like Teen Spirit, In Bloom, Sliver, Heart Shaped Box etc are here.Of course there are a few songs you could have expected to be in this which are not, but then Nirvana has more than just a handful of hit numbers to their credit.

The numbers are well compiled, keeping in mind Nirvana's transition through various phases in their musical careers and when you listen to the songs from beginning to end, you realize the change in Cobain's musical thought patterns and the final song ''You Know You're Right'' really hits you and puts you on a high you've never experienced before.

The song starts on a sober, slow note with a smooth bassline by Noveselic and Cobain's all-too-familiar voice floats in, and before you know it, the song explodes with guitar distortion, heavy drums and Cobain's legendary yowling comes into play, followed by the same slow verse.

This continues throughout the song and YKYR literally catapults you into ''nirvana''...you cannot listen to this song just once and not rewind it and hear it again,it's as addictive as marijuana!!

Also with the album comes the sad realization that the man is no longer with us, which leaves us to wonder what he could have gifted the world in the years '94-'05 had he been still alive. For me, rock legends are few and far between;

Ozzy,Morrison,Page,Hendrix,Cobain,Dickinson,Friedman,Mustaine,Waters,Gilmour,Ba
rrett,Van Halen in three and a half generations, and Cobain was the ''different'' guy among them-no shred guitaring or psychadelic noises or thrash metal.

With a simple electric guitar, power chords, an amplifier which he used with extreme perfection to produce amazing feedback and his indescribable screaming totalled with a genius mind, he pushed music lovers to the fringe of ecstasy.

Rock on Nirvana, we still love your music.
