''Night Geometry and the Garscadden trains'' - A. L. Kennedy. It's a great book that influenced me very much. My bio is proof of that. It's a casual book about people who form the landscape of the community.
Insignificant. The kind of people who filled up the ''masses'' but who are assumed to make no difference at all. Surprisingly they do. And the book speaks about their feelings...the kind that go deep.
Read the book..it's a book of short stories.
How does it work for you..do you want a taste of the individual or you want a 'story'? I prefer the former.
She says that she doesn't have the personality to sell a book and so prefers to keep the sexless initials. Actually known as Alison Louise Kennedy.
I was in Trivandrum a few years ago working on a project with Ar.Laurie Baker. Considering that the city is very low-key and quiet ...one afternoon took me to the BL. Something about the cover page caught my eye and fell for it the minute I read the review. It's has this picture of a man or woman..you cant say. You can see a naked body only till the waist length. Head shaved. Lying down resting the head on the palm... ...the picture caught my attention in the sense I kept wondering what the person is doing. Reading a book? thinking? missing something/someone?
Anyway...It's a collection of short stories set in England in the twentieth century. They talk about the feelings that go deeper than the surface. She doesn't get confined by the story telling mechaniks of time, appearance, date...etc. It's just not important to her.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading her books. You can find them in any British Library. If you do decide to read one then please take time and read it. hmm..it's ok. The book will grab your attention..so you will make time for it. Hope you enjoy it..:)
