A beautiful State near NY
Jan 29, 2016 08:34 AM 1701 Views (via Mobile)

This State boasts being near NYC and has all the facilities equally but at a cheaper price. Love the cultural vibes in this State. Edison city in NJ is famous for its Indian Population:)

New Jersey is the birthplace of various inventions like the icecream cone, the FM radio, the electric train, the postcard, the zipper etc.

Must Visit places:

-Atlantic City: The city is called the Las Vegas of the East. It truly lives up to its fame! It has a large number of huge casinos, hotels, etc. I went to Borgata and loved the experience. I even won few dollars:P There is a shuttle(Jitney) that takes you to these casinos one by one. Also check out Caesar's casino, built on the same lines of Caesar's palace at Las Vegas. A great experience if you are missing the fun of gambling. You can also have a stroll on the boardwalk at the beach nearby.

-Newark: A few historical places can be seen here. A number of churches make this city beautiful.

Cape May: Beautiful 11 Lighthouses near the Beach. There is also a park and zoo which is worth a visit.

Trenton: For art and history enthusiasts, New Jersey State Museum in Trenton has historic artifacts and American fine art.

-Princeton: Famous for the university, so a lot of students live here. There is a Art Museum within the university which is totally worth your time. Stunning art mural and statues.

-Thomas Edison National Historical Park: A museum of buildings buit on Thomas Edison's various inventions. The chemistry building is where he developed the nickel-iron alkaline storage battery among many other inventions. The chemistry lab still exists as it did when Thomas Edison worked there. A must visit place for chemistry enthusiasts as well as children.

Jackson: Skyline of Six Flags is the world's largest theme park. It boasts of the world's tallest roller coaster called Kingda Ka. Totally fun, kinda of a once in a lifetime experience.

General Thoughts:

  • Many Indian restaurants, so if you are missing dal chawal, you will get it here.

  • If small kids are with you, then Storybook Land is a must visit place.

-You can also have a view of New York city skyline from strategic locations within the city.

-Travel within the city is a bit tough if you don't have your own vehicle. Though NJ transit system may help to some extent.

Last Word: Totally Recommending for the fun!

Clifton United States of America
One with Jersey...
May 21, 2008 02:05 AM 3257 Views

This review comes after a long gap of a year. Though I have been regular at mouthshut, I struggled to find time to put my views here due to frequent travels.

Well now that I am in NJ, US and have settled here I think its a good time to write one.

New Jersey for me is a green north-east state in USA. You hardly miss greenery once you are here. I will try to justify my writeup with some points on the state:

  1. Very Indian- NJ is famous for being Indian though I dont agree with it completely. I stay in Clifton which falls under passaic county of the state and you wont find a lot of Indian stores or Indians around here.  Grossly though many parts of the state is in fact Indian. The area which is closer to New York(new york downtown) is very much Indian. These places include Jersey City, North Bergen, Union City, Hoboken, etc. Anybody who plans to work in NY should consider living here. Right from tandori chicken to wada sambhar. you will find it all here. Walk on the Newark Avenue, Jersey City and you might get spices which you might not have got in your local grocery.

For those living in south of the state, Edison is the town to be. The town has all indian items you wish to have. Though at the same time its famous for chaos. but then again which Indian habitat isn't.

Rest of the state isnt Indian and the one I stay is not for sure. Though I like the way it is and its always good to be one with all communities.

  1. Affordable- NJ is a lot affordable than NY. Those who have lived in NY will agree to that. NY offers busy life, good transportation but at the same time high cost of living. Pennsylvania is cheaper though than NJ.

  2. Good Connectivity- NJ has excellent connectivity. Airport at Newark, NY- JFK airport and Laguardia connects one to any part of the world. There are lots of flights which takes off and lands from India in these airports daily across the clock. NJ also has lots of domestic airports and private airports for jets, private airliners, etc.

4. Irregular /errant weather- NJ is north-east of US and has a big coastline to its east. This results in windy days, irregular rains, cold winters and mild to hot summers. Winters can be scary here with inches of snow on the road. Special attention needs to be given once you plan to drive here during winters. Cars move at around 10 MPH during these days on freeways/ highways while its 55-65MPH during other days.

When in NJ, always travel with an umbrella. Its also a word of mouth here. After all who hates a romantic evening shower.

  1. Security- Security has been beefed up in the state after the 9/11 aftermath. Most of the miscreants were from this state and they planned there plot here. The reason being its closer to NY.

Its suprising to note that the miscreants carried a NJ driving licence. For those who are new to the ways in US, a DL in US is all you need to have to prove that you are who you claim to be. So DL is a big thing here.

State police after this aftermath has taken drastic steps to beef up security. Now a DL is a pain to get in NJ. I got mine after a written test, then a vision test, and finally a road test followed by some running around office counters. But its Ok. Afterall we all want to be secure.

  1. Closer to Scenic beauty- NJ is very close to lots of local attractions. Due to its vast coastline, Nj offers some very good beaches. Atlantic beach is one of them. On a sunny day you can hop around bars on the beach and do a lot of window shopping in the area.

Niagra falls is at a drivable distance with just 6 hrs of drive. Miami and Hollywood is also a short flight from NJ. Those who want to visit NY, Washington DC, Pennsylvania can catch a Bus(called NJ transit) or a train within short commute.

Once in NJ(in general US I guess) be ready to drive and drive.

If you are good behind the wheels, there is no stopping you from Uncle Sam's gems.

Enjoy your stay!

Fantastic
Feb 03, 2007 09:04 AM 2051 Views

The weather is wet, snowing and oh, so very cold. Yet it is nice and interesting. For Indians this weather may be dull but then here the sun comes out everyday even though it does not heat up the temperature. I came to the US a week back with my husband.

He was coming on a business trip and I joined him so that I could spencd some time with my daughter and son in law. We had a harrowing time. Our Emirates flight was late by four hours so we missed the connecting flight to New York. We were put ona British Airways flight to London which, unfortunately was again delayed and we came to New York eight hours late minus our baggage which came three days later.

We had to buy al our clothes including thermals as it was freezing here. It was snowing and raining, cold and freezing. My husand came back from his Pittsburg visit and then we went to Jersey. It was windy and dull and cloudy but beautiful. We visited the business places where my husband's US office was and it was a very interesting part. The offices are in such huge complexes that it is a marvel. From one of the windows we could see the Statue of Liberty standing right in the middle of the cold, dull and freezing sea.

I enjoyed the visit and it was grand.

Best time to visit: anytime except November to march 2nd week. Hello friends, this is my first review about New Jersey, the place I have been staying for the past three years. I have been staying mostly in two cities- Teaneck and Hackensack major part in Hackensack. I have found this state pretty comfortable for a quite a good number of reasons; here the pace of life is not that fast. Let me explain. if you step on to the streets of Manhattan, NY the only thing you will see is people walking so fast and in such a confused way that for people used to a slow or regular walking speed would only get one thought- where are these people going so fast and why are they walking so fast. it just seems like they are ready to beat time or at least stay ahead of time. as far as highways are concerned all most all the smaller highways like ROUTE 4. 1&9 are all four lane highways with two lanes for each side of traffic but other bigger highways like interstate highways and parkways are all with four lanes on each side which does ease congestion a lot and also gives smooth traffic mostly. Things to do eating - as for places to eat , there is no shortage at all. There are plenty of places to eat and also you get different cuisines to eat. till now I have had the opportunity to eat Italian, Thai cuisine, authentic Chinese and Japanese cuisine, Mexican, Indian food, but only vegetarian as I don’t meat. There are many options for vegetarians but the numbers of items you find at these places are less compared to non vegetarian dishes. for non vegetarians there is nothing to worry about. Shopping; the state is full of malls and if you are a person who prefers less crowded malls for shopping then the best time to visit malls for shopping is during business hours and on weekdays as malls are relatively less crowded and silent. some fast food joints where you can have a quick bite : looking for something spicy: chillis is the right place something Mexican style: taco bell for chicken : KFC burger fans : McDonalds and Burger King and of course for some white castle seafood : TGI Fridays meat lovers with heavy meal : Boston market coffee : STARBUCKS to sit and sip in relaxation coffee on the go : Dunkin Donuts for limited flavors and lattes and cappuccinos, wide flavors :7-11 convenience store, coffee and newspaper to go. PIZZAS: PIZZA HUT, DOMINOS, and other Italian local pizza shops- some pizzas better than what branded outlets have to offer. Now for some great gambling joints when you feel lucky ATLANTIC CITY-city of unlimited gambling, I have heard that food in the restaurant in the casino building is great as my friend used to go there just for the food. Mohegan Sun-good place but very limited games to play with majority being the slot machines. COST OF LIVING: a little expensive compared to Pennsylvania but cheaper than New York. Some areas more crowded than other areas mainly due to cost of living and owning or renting costs and standard of living. Considerably more safe in certain areas like Hackensack where I stay. I can go out on to the streets even at 1 am walking without fear as there is hardly anyone on the streets not even bad elements. cop response is good as it is a relatively big city in area. Traveling around the state: public transport is best, cabs are expensive to go around for tourist visits or shopping. another option is to rent a car senior residents cannot move around easily as volunteer services like disabled transportation vehicles becoming less due to lack of funds. Interstate public transport to New York needs to be informed in advance for them to make arrangements to accommodate. if you just wait at bus stop without informing them in advance they don’t let you get on the bus- I am talking about disabled people with wheelchairs

On The Boardwalk
Sep 11, 2004 06:44 PM 2467 Views

Bruce Springsteen once sang:

Everything dies baby, that's a fact.

Maybe everything that dies, may someday come back.

Put on your make-up and fix your hair,

And meet me tonight in Atlantic City.

I have been to Atlantic City, New Jersey, twice. The first time was to visit a friend who was the Promotions Manager for the Hilton Hotel, (I stayed at her apartment), the second time was to see a Bon Jovi show.

The city is a hundred years old. You will find it on the eastern coast of the United States, on the Atlantic Ocean.

I flew here from New York City on American Airlines. It is a small city with a population of about 40,000 people.

The History

In 1793 it was a haven for immigrants arriving via Ellis Island.

Fifty years later, Dr Jonathan Pitney, developed a village, that was a Health Resort and a Spa. Way back then you came to get some sea air, as you walked along the wooden Boardwalk or ate some saltwater taffy. There were only a few small hotels.

In the 1920's the rich and famous people made it their playground. Plays that were scheduled to open on Broadway, used the Theatre to try them out. If they bombed out here, they never went to Broadway.

After WW II people stopped coming here because there was so much crime and drug use.

Today

Absecon Island is 10km from the New Jersey mainland. The Airport is 16 km west of the city.

Atlantic City has twelve hotels that have Casinos. The Boardwalk is still there. If you want to walk the entire walk, I hope your fit, because it is six miles long! It's safe to walk along it, but don't look what's under it, or you'll be very sad, to see how many homeless people live there.

We went to suntan on Ventnor Pier, and bought some saltwater taffy. It is the best I have ever tasted.

We went to see the Absecon Lighthouse. It was built in the mid 1800's and has been restored. We were allowed to walk to the top and look out at the Atlantic Ocean.

One evening to get away from the gambling, we went to see a base ball game at the Sandcastle Stadium.

The Atlantic City Historical Museum & Miller Art Centre, opened in the late 1990's. The museum shows the many stars that sang in this city, like Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Frank Sinatra. It doesn't mention that the Mob use to meet here, once a year. Meyer Lansky might have warned them never to tell that!

The Convention Hall was built by Donald Trump when he took over the Miss America Pageants. The main hall has a huge pipe organ. They claim that it is the largest auditorium, (that doesn't have pillars). in the World. I wish the Donald would get a make over like the contestants, his hair looks like a yellow cat is sitting on his head!

At the Gardiners Basin and Smugglers Cove. The Basin is a Speakeasy Bar that the New Jersey mob owned. The cove is where they smuggled in the booze from Canada, when the United States, wouldn't allow drinking, (1930's). A few smart Canadians became millionaires.

Where to Eat

All of the major hotels have wonderful dinning rooms.

We ate Chinese food at Wok-N-Roll on Pacific Ave.

The Italian Food at Scannichios Italian Restaurant, (on South California Ave.), is made from recipes that the family brought from Italy.

At Mexico Undo Restaurant, (on Atlantic Ave), the food was like a hot tamale!

We went to the Pat Kings Restaurant to eat steak. Our steaks were delicious, because they use Alberta beef! They are on Atlantic Ave.

I love crab cakes and Captain Young’s Seafood Emporium made them the right way. They didn't use Mayo, but real eggs, and they were covered in break crumbs. Yummy!

We had a few martini's at the Angelo's Tavern. Dempsey's Beer and Ale Pub, brew their own beer.

Shopping

I'm the Amelia Marco of Canada! I love shoes. I bought a few nice ones, that were on sale, at the Payless Shoe Store.

In Victoria unless we are going to a wedding, we think we are dressed up, when we wear jeans. I needed a few dresses to go to see the shows, so I bought them at Talk Of The Walk By Day. I had a few Bar Mitzahs and a Wedding to go to, so I knew I could use them again.

The Shows

At the Hilton we went to see Olivia Newton John.

At The Trump Taj Mahal we saw Sarah Brightman.

My Final Thoughts

I liked Atlantic City, but it doesn't compare to Vegas. If you are in the east coast, and not going west, then Atlantic City is a place you should try.

If you would learn more about the City that's always turned on, the link is:

Atlantic City, NJ - Vegas of the East Coast
Mar 02, 2004 11:14 AM 2524 Views

Atlantic City, NJ is a great place to visit every now and then. It's a short drive (only 3 hours or so) from my house on Long Island, and it's relatively inexpensive. That, of course, depends on if you know where to eat, visit, and stay.

The main attraction of Atlantic City is the Boardwalk. There are casinos lining it, various restaurants, lots of shops, and even a little amusement park at the end of it. There's a tiny little pizza place by the Tropicana (whose name I just can't remember) that has the best pizza I have ever eaten.

If you become a member of any of the casinos' frequent players clubs, you'll get lots and lots of discount (if not free) room offers. For example. I just received something from the Atlantic City Hilton that offered me a room for two at only $39 per night, as well as a free room from the Taj Mahal. I have stayed for free at places such as Sands, Tropicana, Bally's, and many other hotels in Atlantic City. Using your card whenever you play is certainly worth the rewards you receive.

There are tons and tons of places to eat on the Boardwalk and in the casinos, including many buffets. The Epic Buffet (located inSands) is the best buffet in the area. It has absolutely everything! I've been there for breakfast and lunch, and I have always left happy. (It's also relatively inexpensive, too, especially if you have your Sands MVP Card!) The Planet Hollywood and Hard ROck Cafe there aren't half-bad, either.

If you don't like to gamble, you can always enjoy the beach, see a show, or visit the Ripley's Museum. Showboat, which is located all the way at the end of the Boardwalk, is a great place to check out if you don't want to gamble. There's usually a live band playing, and all sorts of shops and entertainment.

I like going to Atlantic City with my mother. It's a place that all different ages can enjoy. Whether it's just me and my mom, me and Dionne, or a whole group of my friends and family, I always have a good time.

New Jersey.. What a busy state
May 29, 2003 10:23 PM 4187 Views

I recently spent a week in New Jersey actually the town was Linden New Jersey. My parents live at the Swan Motel that is located on Rout 9 & 1. My father works for a local company and that is the reason they are now living there. As most people might know New Jersey was the place that the 9-11 hijackers mostly lived and constructed their plot of terrorism. I use to think that I would never visit this state, just because of that reason. Then I realized that just because they were there and just because the news always has something bad to say about this state it didn’t give me a true reason to not visit it.

Linden New Jersey is a large city and very busy. You don’t have two lane highways to drive on like we do here in the hike towns of some country living towns of Pennslyvania. ( I hate 3 and 4 lane highways they scare me cause to many vehicles surrounding me at one time on all sides ). There are however many awesome things to do in Linden New Jersey and some good places to eat. I do have to say that this city is very high in price when it comes to food and doing things. Pennslyvania is a cheaper state to live in I will say that much. However the pay rate in Linden New Jersey is much higher then Pennslyvania but they have to compromise the pay and make it high just so they can make a living and be able to afford things. Example: In Pennslyvania an average starting pay for a job that requires you to run a fork lift operator is around $6.00 an hour, but in Linden the starting pay is any were around $9 to 12 dollars an hour. A lot of people will commute from surrounding states to work in New Jersey for the high pay.

Lets start off with my favorite thing and that is eating! Everyone loves food weather it be fast foods, family restraunts , or big dinning areas. In Linden New Jersey I seen many restraunts that I would of loved to try out but didn’t have the time. I love Chines food and they have Korean food, and Italian food and Portugese food. Quizno’s is a awesome place to eat. You can choose what type of hot sand-which subs, Starbucks was another place I enjoyed they have lots of different types of coffee and creams to enjoy. It was a relaxing place to enjoy your cup of morning coffee.

Then my second favorite thing to do in life is shop! Like most women we love to shop and buy well I found ton’s of cool places to shop in Linden that we don’t have in Pennslyvania. Kid Planet is a awesome place to buy school cloths for your children. My daughter loved the few outfits that I bought her while I was there. In fact her friends from school wanted to know were she was able to get those cool cloths since they are nothing like what we have here in our stores. Spot 10 was another place I enjoyed shopping at, and the 99 cent store. That is a cool place to buy up cleaning products ( that is kind of like the dollar store in PA). Marshals was cool it had lots of clothing name brand stuff cheaper. There is just to many stores to name.. So if you want to shop till your heart is content make sure you check these stores out and the price’s are awesome and affordable.

Linden also has their own airport, this makes it easy for those who live close by it. At the Swan Motel were I was staying it was located near the air port and it was kind of scary to watch those planes take off cause it seemed like they were heading right to the motel. Linden is also right next to New York you can actually see Ales Island from the Motel room. You can take a fairy if you don’t want to drive to New York and see the statue of Liberty. I think the cost per person for the fairy was only $10 dollars a person. Linden has a nice area for fishing and a park that is close for you to take a nice picnic lunch and enjoy time with your family. ( The park is a nice place to go cause it takes you away from the busy noise of the town and at the park you can rest and enjoy yourself).

Those were just a few things that I done while I spent a week in Linden New Jersey. I’m sure there are more things to do and places to visit while you are there. Each city in New Jersey has something special to enjoy. I felt that I should only write this review on what I seen and done in New Jersey. So if you want to have fun take some time and visit this great state in the USA.

Atlantic City: I love it!
Feb 13, 2003 10:48 AM 1908 Views

During my visit to the US, I stayed at NH. I made a trip to NJ to a friends house. At about 11.00 pm made a decision to go to the Atlantic City. The city is so called because it is on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. It was my first visit and I was impressed! Atlantic City, NJ is very popular as the gambling hotspot.

We reached Atlantic City at 2.00 a.m. The whole city was alive in the night. The place has casinos and more casinos. We stopped near The Triumph Taj Mahal. If I am not mistaken, it is one of the biggest casinos in the Atlantic City. The Taj is pretty impressive. It is massive, has Indian interiors and a lot of gambling going on. It was my first ever visit to a casino and I stood at some tables and checked what the people were doing.

People are busy gambling and gambling, after a while I decide to try my hands on it as well. Initially I lost and after a while I won back all that I lost and much more. That's it - I stopped playing! Just gathered all the coins and put them in my bag.

That city never sleeps! Then we walked walk on the boardwalk and looked into a couple of casinos. I liked the Westend Casino. It had the set up of a Texas town with guys in the cowboy attire. The back drop was also of the cowboy related stuff.

We passed several restaurants and gift shops on the boardwalk, filled with the usual souvenirs of T-shirts and postcards. Since I had to get back to NY the next day, we decided to go back home after spending a few action packed hours at Atlantic city.

I would recommend Atlantic City for a weekend getaway. I should plan to visit it the next time I go the US!

The most favourite of Indians
Oct 22, 2002 08:25 AM 2159 Views

This was my third visit to USA. I visited my daughter, who lives in Ossining, near New York. My wife was with me. We visited New Jersey thrice during our ten-week stay in USA, from 2 July to 16 September. I had a fascination for New Jersey, because the Princeton University where Einstein was living and working,is in this State. Our nephew's wife, after she lost her husband 19 years ago lives here. She is a Director in AT&T. Now she is a Director of the Lucent Technologies Division. Once we had visited NJ on the last Sunday of July when the Gujarati Communities had their meeting. Again we were in NJ when a famous Oriya Singer Bhikari Bal was there to sing Oriya Bhajans. The third time it was on the Ganesh Puja day at the Ved Mandir. A former student of mine lives here wIth her family. There are many Oriya families living here. They can get you within 10 minutes, Dosa, Idli, Bade and other snacks. This is the only State in USA where the teachers are best paid. I like NJ.

Naya Jersey!
Jan 26, 2002 04:52 AM 3861 Views

Many people, myself included (at times though), criticize New Jersey for its large and obvious 'desi' population. But the reality is, New Jersey, is a blend of culture, truly cosmopolitan. Its like New York city spread across a larger area. Though some cultures are more overtly visible on the way the shops and streets are named, the others, in small numbers have their own existence.

One of the most industrialized states in the US, it has some good travel destinations, many outside or around NJ but easily accessible. NYC is almost a part of NJ. Atlantic City, Vegas of the east is a favorite weekend spot. Mount Poconos, in Pennsylvania is a great weekend getaway. Philadelphia(Pa) and Baltimore(Md) are both within the 3hr driving radius. Jersey shore is another good getaway, especially Belmar. You got to have a shore house is summer to really enjoy your time!

Talking about food, considering the international flavor that exists in NJ, you can find anything your stomach can digest. From Mongolian barbecues to Ethiopian cuisines, you name it! If you want to enjoy some good Portuguese, Spanish or Brazilian food, Newark is the place to be. My favorite is Iberia on Portugues Avenue in Newark. There are some excellent international food outlets in the New Brunswick area, near Rutgers University. Ethiopian, Vietnamese and even Turkish food is available. For Mexican food, the place I frequent is Jose Tejas in Woodbridge (US 1N). You have to wait atleast an hour outside on weekends to get in. Last but not the least, Oaktree Road in Iselin/Edison has the most number of Indian restaurants I have ever seen in a 1 sq. mile radius.

So how's the party/pub scene? I'd say almost comparable to NYC. The place to be is Hoboken in North Jersey, close to NYC. I think Hoboken has more pubs then rest of New Jersey put together. I have seen atleast 5 pubs in a block in Hoboken. NYC, as mentioned earlier is easily accessible too. There are some good joints in New Brunswick, considering it hosts Rutgers, so lots of students who want to party! Champps in Menlo Park Mall (Edison) is the one most frequented by my friends and me. Poor Billy's in Woodbridge is another favorite of mine.

So if you have the right friends and time on your hands, NJ can be as fun as any other place on this planet.

Atlantic City, NJ.. one of my favorite getaways!!
Apr 22, 2001 09:53 PM 3141 Views

Atlantic City, NJ is one of my favorite getaways, the popular gambling hotspot is about 6 hours south of me and I usually get down there once a year. I've stayed at several of the casino's on the boardwalk, the most recent one being ''Resorts'' which is near one of the ends of the boardwalk and is connected to the ''Taj Mahal'' casino.

I enjoyed my stay at ''Resorts'', the staff was helpful and courteous and our room was wonderful. We were on the 14th floor and had a great view of the boardwalk, beach and the ocean. It was breathtaking first thing in the morning when the sun was coming up and the water was glistening. The room itself was very nice, it was your standard type hotel room with 2 double beds, a dresser, and a table with 2 chairs. The bathroom was huge with a comfortable tub and plenty of counterspace.

There are many things to do in Atlantic City, besides gambling. We started our day off with a walk on the boardwalk, as we left ''Resorts'' we looked to our left to see the ''Taj Mahal'' and ''Showboat'' There is an amusement park on a dock across from the ''Taj Mahal'' We didn't go there, but it looked like it would be alot of fun. There is also a ''Hard Rock Cafe'' in that area. We headed right, toward the center of the boardwalk, passing ''The Claridge'' which is the oldest hotel/casino on the boardwalk, We passed several restaurants and gift shops on the boardwalk, filled with the usual souvineers of coffee cups, Tshirts and postcards. The smell of ocean mixed with the smell of foods from the restaurants is just wonderful. As you walk by the casino's you can hear the jingling of coins and the excitement in the air as people win money.

There is also a mall on the boardwalk, located almost across from the ''Trump Plaza'' The Atlantic City mall is a old cruise ship that I believe got stuck ashore years before and was made into a mall, it is a 3 level mall with several unique shops that you won't find anywhere else. I enjoy going to this mall because of the different shops. There is also an arcade at the end of the first level, and a food court at the end of the second level. There is an observation deck outside of the food court that offers great views of the city. The third floor of the mall is 4 restaurants (4 as of early 2000)

The food in Atlantic City is great as well. All of the casino's offer buffets for reasonable costs, as well as having several restaurants or coffee shops inside. There is also plenty to eat on the boardwalk.

I'd recommend Atlantic City for a weekend getaway. Its a great town with plenty to offer!

Great for Families.
Mar 27, 2001 04:53 AM 3059 Views

The New Jersey Shore is a great place for families to take vacations. There are several vacation spots in New Jersey, Wildwood, Cape May, and Rehoboth Beach to name a few. We usually visit Wildwood Beaches for our family vacation. There is a long boardwalk which is completely lined with shops where you can find anything you are looking for and usually at a good price. There are a couple of Piers going off of the boardwalk that have rides for kids and adults on them. You can buy individual tickets to go on these rides or you can buy a day pass and go on unlimited rides.

Another fun thing to do while at the New Jersey Shore is of course the beach. If you time it right the water gets nice and warm. We usually visited the water in the evening when the crowds start clearing out a bit. It is much easier to keep an eye on kids then. There are life guards watching the swimmers in the ocean for safety.

There are also other activities easily accessible while at the shore. Several great restaurants, ice cream stores, you can go out on fishing boats, sunrise and sunset boat rides, free zoos, and historical tours. Surely something no matter what you like.

New Jersey also has Atlantic City which contains very many casinos. Atlantic City is more geared towards adults than families. It is nice for a day getaway or for a couple of days.

We have always found New Jersey to be a fun, affordable family vacation destination.

I am sorry but I do not know the conversion for the currency given, we rent a condo for $450.00 for 5 days and spend approximately $200.00 on shopping, eating etc. while there.

Shopping, traffic, more shopping and the Giants...

I have lived in Northern New Jersey for most of my life. That was until I headed south to Florida.

If you are going to visit the New York/New Jersey area, there is an awful lot to do here. Of course New York has broadway and Times square, but you have to pay an awful lot at the hotels there.

If you stay in New Jersey, the hotels are much more cheaper and NY would only be about 20 minutes away after you pay the tolls on either the George Washington Bridge or the Lincoln Tunnel.

In Northern New Jersey, you can take a flight right into Newark Airport, and you will not be no more than 30 minutes away from any of the sites/towns I will list below.

In Northern NJ, you have Secaucus, which has quite a few trendy hotels along with a few malls. Next to Secaucus, you have East Rutherford and Rutherford. East Rutherford is home to Giants Stadium where the NY Giants and the NY Jets play thier football games. Yes I know the stadium is in NJ and the teams are called NY...Don't ask because you will never get a straight answer from anyone. Across from the stadium you have the Continental Airlines Arena. You can catch a basketball game or even a hockey game here.

Up a little ways from Rutherford, you have Paramus. Here is a town that has managed to fit 7 malls into one town. The most popular one is the Garden State Plaza. When they renovated this mall, it was the 6 th largest mall in all of the US of A. You can spend a whole day at this mall, and then head across the parking lot for a movie at the movie theatre.

Paramus also offers the county park which has a zoo. You can spend a day at this park alone just hanging out with the kids at the playground. Up the street from the zoo is the NJ Children's musuem. Another great hands on site for kids to play.

Yes New Jersey has it's smog that it is so popular for, but as you can see, New Jersey does offer quite a bit for its visitors. And it's alot cheaper to stay in New Jersey than it is to stay in New York.
