Hello friends I am going to share my opinion on national museum, which is situated in delhi. This place is really good for knowledge. You can learn many things from there.Tickets are also very cheap. I think everyone should visit there especially students. One thing I have noticed that they never do changes like if you went before 5years and if you go today. It will looks same.So I think so they need to focus on it. Rest it is a peaceful and knowledgeable place. So please friends let them suggest for changes.

Apr 01, 2016 01:46 PM 3929 Views

I went to Delhi for few days to visit my relatives, there they took me to this place called as'National Museum, Delhi'.

Normally I don't visit such places neither I have interest but I truly say I really enjoyed this place after my visit. The place is located in very high secure and neat clean area with a very nice infrastructure built and well maintained.

There are very nice stuff available to watch inside the place. From ancient things, coins, monuments etc. Very systematically organised area and all the information is well written and available. Security is available along with help.

Ticket price is not high, its about Rs 20 though no eatable allowed. I went late in the morning and in evening around 5 when the place was about to close I exited with happiness. I also bought few paid stuff with me as memory. The staff is very well mannered and helpful. Will surely visit it again in future and recommend all to at least visit this place once with family and friends.

The National Museum, New Delhi, as we see it today, has an interesting beginning. The blueprint for establishing the National Museum in Delhi was prepared by the Maurice Gwyer Committee in May 1946. An Exhibition of Indian Art, consisting of selected artefacts from various museums of India was organized by the Royal Academy, London with the cooperation of Government of India and Britain.

The success of this Exhibition led to the idea that advantage should be taken of this magnificent collection to build up the nucleus collection of the National Museum.

On August 15, 1949, the National Museum, New Delhi, was inaugurated in the Rashtrapati Bhawan by Shri R.C. Rajagopalachari, the Governor-General of India.

the Museum continued to grow its collection through gifts  that were sought painstakingly, artefacts were collected through its Arts Purchase Committee. The Museum presently holds approximately 2, 00, 000 objects of a diverse nature,  both Indian as well as foreign, and its holdings cover   a time span of more than five thousand years of Indian cultural heritage.

  • A gallery lets you know a considerable measure around a legacy, society and workmanship. So is this spot about.Even human advisers for let you know about craftsmanship and history. Best exhibition hall in Delhi as indicated by me. Heaps of smaller than expected works of art and wonderful models.

  • I was entirely blown away to see so huge numbers of the photos from my history course book wake up here. Particularly the pieces from Harangue time, Mauryan and Gupta period.

I Visted this place on 11th of Dec 2015. This visit is exceptionally helpful and safe to go in an extremely complex city such as Delhi. It is great and safe for desolate female voyagers. Time between every transport is somewhat long and editorial is not especially exceptional but rather general it is a decent alternative for sightseers.

  • A huge number of memorable ancient rarities covering 5, 000 years of both Indian and world history are in plain view in the open exhibitions of the phenomenal National Museum.

  • Displays incorporate uncommon relics from the Harappan Civilization, Central Asian ancient pieces(counting silk compositions from the first century AD), Indian materials, tribal veils, models, musical instruments, old coins(Portuguese, Dutch and Danish), small scale artistic creations and weapons(counting a fight hatchet from 1739 AD).

  • It is the biggest exhibition hall in India so give yourself no less than a couple of hours - ideally a half-day - to investigate this historical center.

I would visit this place again. Still I need to collect more the information& memories in future.

Gallery of Forgotten India

As soon as one passes through the security check at the National Museum, one is sure to have a feel of entering totally a different world.

I was happy to enter the Museum by using my College ID card.

The arrangement looks quiet promising, maybe they are at par with the Louvre or any other Museum in the world. The prehistoric and neo palathic sections are quiet interesting and so are the sections dedicated to life and history relating to Buddha.

Afterall a stroll of more than 3 hours in the different galleries, it was time to say adieu to the museum with deep sense of gratitude towards our countries rich culture and history. In the end I could not suppress my feeling and caught hold of the nearest security guard, telling him that they are really guarding the FUTURE (read past) of India.

To be very frank it is an eye opener for the gennex....

Wellington New Zealand
**My free ticket...**
Feb 05, 2006 10:09 AM 4776 Views

The story goes a bit like this. I was there with two of my friends. Inside the national museum that is. We were in the entrance, but hadn’t entered it. This was my third visit to the museum if I remember correctly. We were in a predicament because…well…the two of my friends weren’t Indian, which meant they’d have to pay rs 300 for each ticket.

It was a very small sum to pay for this museum…only $9, which is below what you’d pay in the west for even a mediocre museum. But we wanted to save that money for drinks.

We looked around and saw a guard at the entrance, we were pretty sure that he’d check for our ticket. I knew we had a chance to get through without a ticket, because we had one white guy in the group, and I knew the guard would be less suspecting of foreigners. The three of us walked up to the entrance…

I cringed when we passed the guard, but nothing happened, we slipped right through. This type of double standards can only be expected in India, I knew if I had gone past the guard alone, he would have asked for my ticket.

I have to say, the moment I stepped into the museum I thought I was in another country, its so wide and spacious. The museum was wonderful, there wasn’t much wrong with it. It’s been 10 months since I went to it so I can only remember a few things about it.

I remember this huge elephants tusk with really detailed carvings on it. I also remember the preserved mummy. There was a lot of jewellery on display, very beautiful.

I mean…I’ve been to the museum’s in New Zealand and I have to say I prefer The National Museum than Te Papa, which is the museum in Wellington. The museum I went to here is a major tourist attraction, so if National Museum can match it, it’s a big achievement.

The National Museum does not match the western Museums in terms of using technology, and using outrageous gadgets to dispense knowledge. The Museum is very traditional, with writing under each artefact to display its history.

National Museum has substance, and it’s endless, you could spend several hours in it viewing all the things on display.

It is a must see when you go to delhi!!
