MTDC Resort, Bhandardara Reviews

Newly AC room for family are good for family
Jul 02, 2017 07:32 PM6506 Views

We had booked newly built AC accomodation room which are nicely maintained.

Overall a family of four can stay without any additional cot but new bedsheet provided by them were not dry and were little wet. Explanation provided by them was that due to monsoon - they are not fully dry.

Food was okay but canteen is not good at all, it needs to be renovated but there are other places where we can have better place for having food.

AC Room are value for money if we dont have much more expectation regarding food.

M.T.D.C. Resort in Bhandardara
Jan 05, 2017 12:54 PM9183 Views

I used this resort two months ago with my family. We were very happy with this resort because its room quality is very fantastic and also enjoy outside of this resort but I trouble with it service. This resort service is completely faulty. Its room is nice but room servicing is so poor and a bathroom is not clean. This resort transporting like is not so good.

If you want to use this resort please, coming here with the personal car otherwise face traveling problems.

I suggest to this company, please improve resort service, its service is very slow. I hope, I will get good service in future.

Very unclean and bad resort...
Jan 13, 2016 04:34 PM17021 Views

I had visited Bhandardara the second time a few days back.4 years back had gone for trekking and this time for camping.

Location is great but the MTDC Resort is very pathetic.

Let me share my experience.4 years after when I went to the same place I thought things would have changed but they were same.worse.

The food in the MTDC is very bad specially the chicken tastes like rubber.not to mention the price which is very high.I would suggest only food item to the non veg people chicken biryani which is somewhat good and eatable.

Then comes the toilets and washroom.they are very dirty .I feel sad seeing such condition where people come to relax from their routine life.

I would suggest that Bhandardara is a good place to visit but try some other option for your food and services not MTDC.

Trendiest MTDC property
Jun 12, 2015 04:50 PM21810 Views

We went to Bhandardara early Feb this year. We loved the comfort and service offered by MTDC here. We went on our bikes and one of the bikes broke down there, one of the staff from the hotel, Shailesh Pol,  helped us repair the bike. We really appreciated the effort of Mr. Pol and were pleasantly surprised.

The dam and other sights of interest aren't too far from here. The resort is economical and clean.Exterior of the hotel requies a fresh coat of paint, otherwise everything seems perfect.Coming back soon.

A perfect monsoon getaway
Apr 16, 2015 01:42 AM22400 Views

Bhandardara is a small village situated in the western ghats. This place is heaven during monsoons. It's secluded with just one hotel apart from MTDC, no atms and low/no mobile connectivity. But this is what makes it a perfect weekend getaway where all one wants is to be away from the city's hustle bustle. If you're planning on a romantic getaway, make sure you book the lake view room at MTDC.

Make sure you do the booking at least a month in advance as there is no facility of on the spot booking & most often the lake view rooms are not available.

The rooms are clean and tidy. The canteen food is pathetic. I would recommend you to visit the neighboring hotel restaurant.

Do sit by the lake with your partner and watch the sun set.:)

Bhandardara -- Paradise to Visit
Aug 22, 2010 07:00 PM16568 Views

I am quite a travel freak... But off late I was bogged down visiting mundane hill stations in and around Mumbai...... like Lonavla, Khandala, Matheran, Mahabaleshwar.... couple of years back I did visit Ganpatipule... about 8 hrs drive from Mumbai... but you know what... visiting the same .. same places many times is no fun... looks like you are getting too used tothe routine which you wanted to run away from.

Now for some Gyaan.... plan a long visit once a year say Himachal... Uttanranchal.. etc( read some of my other reviews) but keep the best for some great short drives in and around Mumbai....now get start go........get you car in top shape... check your battery...tyres.... coolant levels... spare tyre inflation etc.... and get out to drive to Bhandardara...about 160 kms from Mumbai.

You could stay at Anandvan or Yash or MTDC... The first 2 are pretty expensive but possibly provide good comfort levels for stay... I booked MTDC thru the net. .. relatively inexpensive...comfortable but some world war 2 type barrack type sarkari accommodation......but with the finest views Bhandardara has to offer... true lake views. We don't go for holidays only for room service.... if so this place will disappoint you... if you are OK with normal life style browse ahead... :)

How to reach there?

Thane..... Bhivandi bypass... about 45 kms.. Shahpur... about 45 kms.... Igatpuri... don't worry roads are getting better.... after Igatpuri toll naka..take 2nd right... to bypass Ghoti village.... about 40kms to Bhandardara. Driving time from Borivali 3.5 hrs approx.. without unnecessary overspeeding considering the craters on the Ghoti Bhandardara leg... zara suspension.. tyre conditionko dhyan dhena..

Places to visit Wilson Dam, Kokan Kada, Ghatgar Dam... Adivasi Villages.. Amruteshwar temple... boat ride near resort etc. Suggest take a guide available at about Rs 300 for 1.5 days... makes your driving more enjoyable without any panic attacks of fear of getting lost. in forest land.. make the best of this .. great photo opportunities during monsoons including Kalsubhai peak.. the highest peak in Maharashtra.

The climate is great during monsoons... the food average at the MTDC resort.. but then nothing like travelling on a light stomach.. :) Hungry Kya.?... :)

Bhandardara is 100% non commercial... so carry essential snacks .. beverages ..;) emergency medicines etc with you.

Weather very good.... I understand winters are chill .... I will definitely test that out.

Cheers.. definitely a great pace to visit.. provided you have no hangups.... status ..image issues... samjhe na...........

Cheers again

Bhandardhara

Bhandardhara is indeed an ornamental creation of god.Blessed with scenic beauties, great spots, lovely cool pleasant climate. Very low populated. Ideal for couples and anybody who loves nature....you will not want to come back. Its a hidden paradise and I hope it remains hidden.Untouched beauty I call it...best place to stay is MTDC.

Book online in advance. Best season is monsoon and winters. Or otherwise throughout the year..The place is 45 kms from Igatpuri..Ideally one should have a vehicle to explore this place. Otherwise you can hire a cab. They charge somewhere around 1200 with guide for sightseeing.

Best time to go there is immediately after rains or winter. Although throughout the year the climate is very pleasant over there.

Unwind yourself
Mar 17, 2010 03:43 PM14116 Views

An ideal gateway very near to Mumbai and in Maharashtra and a really cool and pleasant place to be in for couple of days away from Mumbai .

The total cost incurred per person - travel by own car food and stay is Rs.1000/- per person. A must visit for friends and family for couple of days stay....also there is guide in the resort who charges Rs.300/- and will take you to kalsubai (maharashtra largest peak) dams, amruteshwar temple (ancient mandir) , randha falls and will take a day to visit (even half kalsubai is possible). The food at resort is good and hence not recommended any other roadside dhabha. Also, we have paan and bidi shop in the resort (after a tasty non-veg meal). The view of the dam from resort is breathless!

The location of the resort is as attached in the PIC captured from the boat ride in the dam.

'Why not to go to Govt. Managed resorts'
Jan 14, 2010 12:11 PM12535 Views

This place is the perfect reason why not to choose a Govt. Resort at any tourist destination.

F.Y.I. I had rented the Lake View cottage.

Being a Govt. entity MTDC Bhandardara has managed to secure a very prime location with a beautiful view of the lace. Other than that there is not one advantage of staying there.

Electricity: The rooms have no electricity for close to 60% of the day. In all likely hood you shall have no electricity from 3am to 6am in the morning while you are asleep. They have a back-up generator but seldom have the permission to use it for the convenience of their guest. Whats wonderful is that the phonelines don't work when the electricity is out. That way you can't even call the damn reception and yell at them. Should you still have the urge to yell at some MTDC authority in the reception you would need to walk uphill for 500m to get to the reception. Most likely you may not find anyone at the reception on getting there.

Room Service: The people working at MTDC Bhandardara have never heard of anything called room service. No food is served in the rooms. These rooms are best suited for hunger strikes, you can die inside in hunger but you will not be served food in your room. The irony of this is that they have a Menu Card in your room and a dining table. For what? I don't know yet.

Canteen: The canteen is like a Dhaba. The taste of the food is spicy. The cooks there think that better taste means more spice. SO if you ever dare to ask them to make you some tasty food, all you'll get is spice beyond your ability to digest.

Costumer Service: Customer service is something that you shall only be able to Extort from the employees of MTDC.

Standard Line of all MTDC employees in Bhandardara: Please feel free to complain about our services to the MTDC reservation desk in Mumbai. F.Y.I you all never be able to get thru the number of the Mumbai reservation desk. I tried it. I still am trying.

All in all a strategically placed shitty resort. I really hope that this place burns down and some private hotel chain takes over thereafter and develops it to some reasonable standards.

MTDC - RIP OFF AT BHANDARDHARA
Oct 03, 2009 02:08 PM13657 Views

We Booked into a lakeside cottage at MTDC Bhandardhara. The drivve to Bhandardhara is very expensive. I still dont know how much I will spend now that I have come back. The roads from Ghoti to Bhandardhara are so bad that no amount of twisting and turning your car or slowing down is going to prevent your car from rattling and tossing around as if you were in a bullock cart. Actually you might be better off taking a bullock cart - less damaging to the suspension. On top of which a group of louts have been authorized by the government to collect a road tax of Rs 21/ each way for the "upkeep of the road".

Once you reach the MTDC resort your first impression is - The external facade is great - except that it suits 1940 and was probably made also around a few decades back. After that nothing. Forget that today it is 2009 and it could have done with repairs ages ago.

Dont book the deluxe rooms - go only for the villas. The villas are atrocious and badly maintained. For 3000 a night one has expectations of at least a decent experience if not a 2 or 3 star ambience. But no - the villas have not been maintained or repaired for decades. Yet they are fully booked. (Thats why they dont bother)

The paint is peeling off everywhere, half the bulbs dont work, the TV has 10 channels of which 3 have not been programmed, 2 are repeats of the same channel called Manorma, one is star Maza and another is 9x. A great choice!

There are constant power failures and they have a backup generator which they refuse to switch on until you fight or argue with them. Only when you threaten with complaints will they ensure that for the next 24 hours you will get back up supply. In fact I had to threaten complaints just to get them to place candles in the room.

Dont dare to look at the pillows or mattresses. If you dare to ask for an extra pillow or bedsheet you need to pay extra. Then they will pop into your room and drag out an old stinking dirty pillow or mattress, place a cover over it and now you have your demand fulfilled. So if you look under the cover you are never going to sleep.

The canteen is dark and dingy but serves surprisingly good snacks. Though they charge 10% extra for room service, that is still preferable. Their poha, usal pau and upma were good.

So why is the hotel full all the time? Because MTDC as always has grabbed the best location.

The 3000 you pay per day is a sheer waste of money as far as the villa is concerned but is recovered in full if you sit on the bench outside and gaze at the panoramic view of the lake and the mountains.

An alternative is to stay at the Anandvan resort which is bang opposite the MTDC gates. Problem is it is frightly fully expensive at 18-20000 for a 2 night package for a couple. But you can stay at the MTDC and walk across to Anandvan for their food. Anandvan has a great chef who cooks excellent North Indian food and is real value for money and taste.

So ideally go to Bhandardhara for a day picnic. If you have to stay at the MTDC , have your food at Anandvan.

Lakeside villa very nice
May 05, 2009 09:32 AM13750 Views

Visited MTDC at Bhandardara(feb 2009) with wife, 10 yr old son & 12 yr nephew. booked lakeside villa & we all really enjoyed our 2 nights stay there. has a nice lawn in front of each villa & lake beyond that.

one local fellow at MTDC asked if we need guide, since we had space in car & it was my first visit to that place I took him along. It was a wise decision, we could cover most of the places around in 2 days(cost just rs 300). Roads are not in good condition, no road signs or maps & most of the times you won't find anyone to ask for the directions.

food was ok, nothing great.

they have generator backup so no power cuts. villa has large bedroom & a living toom with TV & refrigerator. Amruteshwar temple at Ratanwadi, Waterfall & boat ride in lake are "must see".
