Mission Fateh is Sahara TV's serial about the gallantry award winners of our armed forces, especially the Indian Army. The presence of such a serial honouring these valiant and brave officers and jawans deserves kudos. One might recall the serial ''Param Vir Chakra'' on another Hindi channel which ran for some time a few years ago. This serial has attempted to improve and expand the scope of such a theme, it seems.
The stories range from winners of Vir Chakra in Kargil, to Param Vir Chakra awardees in 1947.The stories are in a random order and it would have been better if they were chronological. The most glaring weakness of the serial is the extremely poor re-enactment of the battle scenes. Sometimes the direction and screenplay of these scenes is so bad, one begins to wonder ''what is so great in that?'' This, I feel, is a terrible injustice to the people depicted. It is not enough to honour these men, it is equally important to effectively depict their efforts which will create a desirable impression in the viewer's minds.
Secondly, a bit too much of Hindi film style songs and sometimes dance too have been incorporated. This is not the right way to capture viewer's attention or provide variety in a topic like this.
Thirdly, from this it seems as though only Army personnel win gallantry awards. There is no episode yet (till date at least) about Air Force and Navy winners. Since the serial covers all medals from Vir Chakra to Param Vir Chakra, I dont know why only the Army has been shown.
On the positive side, the serial is accurate in terms of uniforms, regimental badges, ranks etc. This is good as our mainstream Hindi films can't even show a police inspectors uniform correctly!
On the whole, the serial is very informative and inspiring and makes one appreciate the effort of the Army and is also an eye opener for the general viewer.
