Martins Corner, Betalbatim, Goa Reviews

Pathetic service
Aug 14, 2022 11:42 PM634 Views (via Mobile)

The team definitely cannot handle the heavy pressure and crowd that comes for the love of Martin corner. Will never ever step.in here. Pathetic service and customer handling.

They do not know how to take care of the customer and mange the crowd.

All the food is served cold and they have the cheek to say that since u ate cold food you have to pay...bullshit restaurant

Horrible staff attitude and stale food
Jul 21, 2022 03:30 PM684 Views (via Mobile)

It’s a shame that a restaurant like Martins corner exists in Goa. If you’re worried about health and prefer fresh food, do not waste your time here.

My wife had paneer chilly here and immediately started feeling pukish. She left rest of the food as it is and went to puke (photo of the leftover food attached).

I told the staff that this is what happened and the least they could do is not include it in the bill. Forget an apology, they simply said no and said that you ate the whole dish so we can’t do anything. Even the manager fought with us.

How is it my wife’s fault that she started feeling pukish only after finishing the plate?

When we were arguing with the staff, they quickly printed the bill so that we are forced to pay for that stale item too.

Non veg items were also decent but not mind blowing, it’s an overhyped place.

LOVE THIS PLACE MAN!!
Aug 08, 2017 11:05 AM4294 Views

This place is located in betalbatim which is close to my holiday native home colva in goa, this place is in south goa.

.This place is very very famous for all celebrities from bollywood, to indian cricketers too.Its among sachin tendulkar's favourite goan restaurantS.

Every vacation this is a must visit for my entire family. The food that they offer here is typical goan, sea food and they also offer north and chinese delicacy.

This place opens at 11:30 am to 3:30 pm in the afternoon and evening opens back again at 6:30 pm to 11:30 pm.

The place has an amazing ambience typical goan feel all around.(floral uniform)even the staff wear full on goan attire.

Live music is played all day long, and then people join along on the dance floor for a jive, which makes the environment full of life. This place is even bustling if you go in the monsoon.

The food is to die for.Highly recommended dishes, Goan sausages, cafreal curry, calamari and lobster thermidor.

Prawns stuffed papad a must try <3 Everything that we order every time, is worth the money we spend.Total value for money.

This place offers amazing cocktails too.The virgin pina colada is so creamy and yum.

Regarding service even if its fully packaged or crowded the service is still quick and prompt. And forever smiling faces.

Overall a must visit when in GOA!

Where was it in the family amazing food amazing trip the wonderful experience we come every year. Martin's corner was recommended to us by a couple we met. Now we know why. Lively & busy atmosphere but service was quick enough for both food & drink. I had the Martin's corner house special steak in Goan brown sauce. Loved it. One of us had the chicken wings starter, a pinny(apron) was provided & needed. Everybody enjoyed.!

Martin’s Corner Does Not Disappoint
Oct 10, 2014 05:41 AM14710 Views

Martin’s corner in Salcette is an attractive establishment that serves Goan, Chinese and Indian food with great pomp and happiness.

The decor of the restaurant gives you the feel of old Goa and every corner of this food joint has been decorated really well.

Wooden chairs and tables are placed strategically to provide great views and also take in the beauty of the interiors of the restaurant.

The food here is top quality with items like Goan Pork Sausages, Tongue Salted, Tongue Roasted, Chicken Masala/Fry and more which attract and tantalize the taste buds of the patrons.

These days all restaurants serve Indian and Chinese cuisine and try to out-do each other in this domain.

But it is Goan cuisine that you must have in Goa and especially in Martin’s to enjoy the spirit of Goa at its best.

Martin’s is not only known for its Goan food, but also for its ambiance, decor and the other world cuisine that it offers its patrons. This restaurant in the heart of Salcette the restaurant has a quiet ambiance where one can eat in absolute tranquillity and enjoy their favourite dishes here.

Try out the Goan specialities or Chinese, you will definitely come back for more! The Pork Sorpotel served here is the best that you will find in all of Goa and the Vindaloo too takes the cake as it is simply fantastic and delicious. Come with your friends or family, you are guaranteed a great time!

Craving of Good Food Satisfied Here
Jul 29, 2014 10:08 AM14454 Views

I was craving Chinese food and wanted to have the best that is served in Goa. I am not a big fan of shacks and believe that they are really good at making Goan dishes more than Chinese and other cuisines for the country and the world!

I went to Martin’s Corner and got a nice table facing the outdoors which provided me a great view of the surroundings.

I immediately called for a Chicken Wanton Soup, which arrived in a jiffy. The soup was hot and the chicken dumplings from the soup instantly melted into my mouth!

Next I called for Chicken Fried Rice with Chicken Chilly Dry and enjoyed this delicious food to my heart’s content! I can never thank the Chefs at Martin’s Corner enough for whipping up this yummy food as it was simply outstanding. Thanks Martin’s.

Goan Sophistication
Jul 19, 2014 07:49 AM14460 Views

In Goa, there are loads of restaurants were you can go wild dancing, eating and drinking, but maybe not at Martin’s corner. This is a small joint in Salcette Betalbatim, and looks like a no- nonsense place with everything here being prim and proper.

I was here with my family and we had a really good time lunching at Martin’s Corner. This restaurant serves a mix of Chinese, Indian and Goan cuisine and anything you choose, you are bound to be happy with the way it tastes.

We called for many typical Goan starters like Fish Fingers, Pork Chilly Fry, Chilly Baby Corn and a lot more. The food was plated beautifully and tasted really amazing! There was no room for criticism as everything was just right!

In the Mains we of course had fish curry and rice and enjoyed it thoroughly along with fried fish. Food, drinks and great company! What else does one need?:)

A Rip off
Sep 10, 2010 03:55 PM11659 Views

Yesterday my family went to this restaurant based on the recommendations of friends and reviews. We consider this place a rip off and not at all worth recommending for the following reason.

1)  Ambiance average and a little loud but still acceptable.

2)  Waiter and service slow and very poor. No help in selecting or recommending dishes or specialties.

3) About the actual food, Goan dishes we ordered were pomfret caldin and prawns Xacuti.

Both were not great in taste and portions were very small. The caldin gravy too sweet loaded with green chillies. Also a salad ordered called prawn cocktail was literally served in a cock-tail glass with 3-4 small prawns with a few cabbage leaves dipped in thousand island dressing. Fish fingers and all other starters the portions were measly quantities.

4) After this we decided not to spend any more money on expensive by weight sea food lest we were cheated further.

Restaurants inn Mumbai serving sea food and Goa Portuguese are far better.

Sydney Australia
Great evening out for my parents
Jun 10, 2009 01:50 PM10135 Views

I live in Sydney Australia and I contacted Bonny from Martin's Corner to ask him a favour :To arrange an evening out at Martin's Corner for my parents (aged in their 80s) and my Aunt, who was visiting South Goa.

From the feedback I received from my parents : The food was real goan (authentic) the ambience was perfect, the karoake was fun (my Dad said he would have sung, if his kids were around) !!, so naturally would like us all to go back there when we visit Goa. Bonny was a genuinely nice person and looked after their needs. They were picked up and dropped back from their resort in Benaulim.

What more could I ask for, for my parents, as I am so far away from them. I hope I can do more of this. They had a most enjoyable evening, and my Mum still brags about it !!

A must go at Goa!
Feb 24, 2009 10:42 PM6387 Views

I visited this place last week, during my first visit to Goa, and I'm absolutely thrilled about my experience at Martin's Corner... Perhaps the best place I've liked at Goa, and their service, food prep / taste / recommendation basis your choice etc are too good! I'd sure say- you have missed Goa / goan cuisine in case you haven't made it here...

They won awards across most platforms, and also have celebrities who've visited them, across Bollywood etc. :) I enjoyed spicy prawns in Goan masala, with Butter Garlic crab curry, butter nan, with some of their choicest mock/coc-tails etc Even better, for sea-food, you get to choose the fish of your choice off their shelf.. N they cook it right on!

I visited them for lunch, and they have a road-side / garden view ambience.. and to add, they have really nice colorful pictures of cartoons etc all over the place, making them a colorful lively place to be at..

Prelude

Beaches of Goa resemble the curves in the body of a beautiful woman! Sensuous, beautiful and inviting!

Anything regarding Goa is special - Beaches, Cuisine, Bebinca (Layered Pudding), Churches ---

After heavy water sports - I was resting on beach side resort of "Calangute"sipping warm coffee - tides were kissing my feet - There I got the idea of driving to South Goa! I have explored North Goa to the nth degree - Baga, Vagatore, Aguada, Calangute, Sinquerim ------- Now what?

I took a round at Panjimcity and started driving to Airport Side --- Didnot take the turn to Dabolim - straight road lead me to Margaon! My friend Matthew Marchon, gave me the idea of explorin "Martins Corner"near Betal Batim Beach.

(Statutory Warning -In Goa, "M" alphabet in the end of any word is silent - So, Pronounce Panjim as Panji, Betal Batim as Betal Bati --)

I spend a lot at Souza Lobosat Calangute and was skeptic about this place! But once when I reached there ----- Oooops, the experience is worth writing a review and here I am with you to take you through Martins Corner

Route Map- Well, I have mentioned in before. Its 7-10 KM away from Margaon! If you want to explore South Goa, you can drive up to Palolim Beach(According to me - the best beach in Goa) and then drive back to Colva / Betal Batim Beach side and anyone can direct you to Martins

Brief History

A very humble start with a few benches by Late Martin Pereira and his wife Mrs.Carafina Pereira. They have limtied their cuisine to authentic Goan delicacy. Now, the show is managed by Carafina and her sons.

Speciality -

I have been to this place twice during noon and hence didnot enjoy their musical evening. But I have something great worth sharing with you!

a) Value for money -It is not very expensive like other famous restaurents around Goa. You will never feel like spending more here for sure

b) Ambience -The ambience is so colourful and they have made use of the possibilities of building the restaurent with bamboo.

c) Cuisine -It is quite extensive. You will find Indian, Chinese and Goan specialities. Ofcourse I have not tried Chinese but what ever I have tried in Sea Food was awsome!

One of the most sought after dish here is Crab Stuffed with Spiceswhich is named as Sachin's Delightas Sachin Tendulkar is crazy for this dish! He was so carried away by this restaurent and had popularised this a lot inviting his celebrity friends and he is a voluntary brand ambassador for Martins' Corner.

Some other dishes which I recommend for you are

1) Snapper Reicheido 2) Pomfret Caldin 3) Goan Fish Curry in Surma 4) Chicken Cafreal (Portugese speciality) 5) Prawn Balachao 6) Fish Mol (this is pickled fish) 7) Tiger Prawns

8) Snapper

Also, if you dont want to venture into much adventures, do opt for the following

a) A humble starter with Tiger Prawns and King Fish Fy

b) Plain Rice & Goan Fish Curry

c) If you eat beef, opt for Beef Fry as side dish / starter

d) Butter Roti with Chicken Cafreal

d) Hygiene -This is another major plus point which I want to mention - The restaurent is under the personal supervision of Mrs.Carafina and "being hygiene" is a religion for them! I have personally checked their kitchen and interacted with Chefs and arrived at this opinion!

Summary

Inshort, let me just plan a small package for you!

Plan for a full day in South Goa - Drive upto Palolim and explore nearby beaches during forenoon and plan to reach Betal Batim by 1.00 PM. Have your lunch in Martinsand if time permits go to Colva Beach and Betal Batim Beach (nothing so great in these beaches) and have a gentle drive to Panjim / North Goa!

I am sure - if you go there after reading this, you will remember me for ever!

Musical nights
Oct 23, 2008 02:53 PM9175 Views

I have been going to Martin's Corner much before it became famous. My father discovered the place. Simple but quaint in terms of ambience, its actually an old bungalow which has been extended into a restaurant.

I love the live music they have and the place is always full, with a mixed crowd of desis and foreigners. They have a fairly big menu with  Indian, Chinese, Continental and Goan. Although I have tried their Indian and Continental fare, I prefer their Goan food. Their Fish Curry rice is one of my favourites. Among the starters I like their Chicken 65, its absolutely yummy.

The service is slow, but then its a place for susegad people who have come to chat and relax. So don't expect quick Udipi style service or for that matter smiling waiters:)

In fact the last two times I went there, we were served by a very grumpy looking waitor. Yet in the photos displayed in a corner, the same guy was beaming while posing with celebrities:)! I had a good laugh looking at that.

The food is reasonably priced.

If you are looking for a relaxing evening with some live music I'd certainly recommend Martin's Corner. But do book your table in advance, especially on weekends.

London United Kingdom
This place is slipping
Jan 21, 2008 07:29 PM8955 Views

On my visits to Goa, I have always visited this restaurant usually in a group as we always had an enjoyable evening there. Sadly I have to say that the earlier standards of food and service had not been matched on my recent visit last month with a few friends. The service was inattentive even when the place was only half full, but worse was that some dishes fell way below what you would expect from any restaurant. Although the starters were fine, in the main courses one pork dish contained exactly 5 small cubes of pork in a bowlful of sauce and similarly a chicken dish.

It's a shame as it was quite a nice place to visit. I guess if you have to have a VIP room for bollywood stars then you may start to get complacent and ignore your other guests, in the long run to their cost as I have found there are quite a number of similar places in the Benaulim and Colva area that are quite good and less expensive - it doesn't take a lot of looking. So I can't recommend this place unless they go back to the old standards.
