Mark of the Assassin, The - Daniel Silva Reviews

SINISTER GAMES.

This is one book that you have to read.It is absolutely compulsive reading.I had the fortune of discovering this author just recently and boy,was I delighted!!This story is about an assassin who has made enemies with a dedicated CIA operative. The characterisation of all the characters in the story is superb. You can believe that such people do exist.

The story begins in 1968 when a small boy is secreted across the Soviet border to go and reside abroad and then carry out his tasks as and when required. He turns into a very deadly assassin who brings down an airliner and kills around 300 people. The pressure mounts on the American President to do something about it.There are a lot of top people involved in this. The case lands in the lap of CIA operative Michael Osborne who is married and unable to have a child. His wife Elizabeth works as a partner in a top law firm. She is unable to handle all the pressures that Michael's job brings with it.

The investigation brings Michael close to the assassin who prefers to be known as Delaroche. The character of Delaroche is very well etched. He appears to be a cruel person but at the same time he is sensible too. There is a shady organisation known as The Society which is at the centre of all the goings on.How Michael gets to the bottom of all this and the price that he and his near and dear ones have to pay makes for compulsive reading.A fabulous book and I finished it within 3 days whereas I take at least a week to finish a book.

Read it and take my word for it.If you like sensible thrillers with a plausible story line this is the book for you.The thing is, this book is not widely available in Bombay.I managed to get it at a book seller at Flora Fountain.by the way, there is a sequel to this book by the same author.
