Marina Beach is India's longest beach that is located in the city around 14 kilometers. It is the crown of Chennai, favorite hangout of chennai people. I like chennai is quite good city to travel, here in the you can find any pure vegetarian easily than any other south cities.

If you like peaceful environment than must comes here in early morning or late night, sit near by beach on sand and feels the nature's beauty, listen waves sounds. It all removed your all tensions. At day time or evening or any on cloudy day you will find crowd here. The most hotspot place here is Light House.

Now a days, in some areas of beach not much clean. But few area left, so till now I think Marina beach will be on top good places of Chennai. At evening time, people comes with their family, spend time here by playing games or just comes here to eat snacks, there are many food stalls and watch sun set scenery.

I like to walk along beach at early morning and feel fresh air, like to listen waves and birds sounds.

Beach that attracts-marina

Marina beach is one of the famous beaches in India. It is situated in Chennai. This is adjacent to bay of Bengal. This is one of the tourist attractions in Chennai. Though it is called as the dirtiest beach, there is no decrease in the number of tourists visiting the beach. This is a very refreshing spot in the hot temperatures of Chennai.

During tsunami time this beach was badly affected. We can swim and take bath inside if at all if there is no cyclone threat. This is famous lovers site. This beach provides livelihood to the fishermen who are dependent on this breach. You get number of varieties of fish here. There are many shopping stalls across the beach. This is a must to be seen place in Chennai

Nice place to hang out but dirty water..!!
Apr 21, 2015 07:04 PM 4479 Views

I shifted to Chennai 4 months back and in last 4 months I have been visited Marina beach 2 times.

In morning time, you can easily see the sunrise and crowd is very happening there in morning. But if you want to feel the water there, then don't go there, the water is very much dirty. Even the beach is not that much clean. So many other beaches are there having good water.

I took participation in marathon "Ridley for run" and it happened there in the morning time and it was a good experience for me.

For once, you can visit this place but try to visit in morning only as you can see the sunrise also.

Well if u live in Chennai then you should have visited Marina Often but if u visiting Chennai for tour, you should probably not miss Marina beach. But its nothing wrong if u miss this beach either. He he he.

Pros -(Not much)

  • world's second longest beach

  • Closer by the shopping mall like Spencer plaza, Express avenue and City Center. Also close to Secretariat.

  • Well of course good view of bay and Harbor.

  • Structures like: C N Annadurai Memorial, The Triumph of Labour statue, C N Annadurai's Memorial, MGR Memorial and Sivaji Ganesan statue.

  • Nice view of Light house, Doordarshan tower and Very close to Chepak Cricket Stadium.

  • And all above, good Chilly air after evening.

Cons -

  • DIRTY DIRTY DIRTY.

  • REALLY CROWDED EVENINGS.

  • Chennai has become crowed with cars and bike, but the beach parking in now not enough with the cars drive in for parking.! Now a day, I have stopped going to this beach just because of unavailability of parking space.

Tips - If u want to visit beach, better visit on a cloudy day in an afternoon. U will get parking and chance to get photography. Better stay near by to Gandhi Statue memorial, its bit clean there.

Marina Beach is.

The second longest beach in the world.

An important landmark of Chennai, Tamilnadu, India.

Having historic statues all along the beach.

Crowded with people for leisure and relaxation.

A place loaded with memories from year to year.

A tourist attraction with Light House, Aquarium, Swimming pool, Anna Samadhi, MGR Samadhi, artificial fountain and many more.

It will be a nice experience to watch the activities of fishermen in the early morning in the sea-shore of Marina Beach. Fishermen will throw a multiple thorns attached to long nets, with worms in the sea, for catching fish and other fish food. After some time they will pull out the long nets. A number of fishes will be trapped in the thorns in a row. The fishermen will go very early in the morning in Kattumarams and motor-boats to the deep sea for harvesting fishes, crabs and prawns. Many people will buy the sea-food before they are iced from the fishermen in the Marina Beach, at cheap rates.

Marina Beach is the widest beach in the world
Jun 23, 2009 11:17 PM 6681 Views

On 19th April we Msians were fortunate to revisit the world famous Marina Beach in Chennai. Even I had a misconception that Marina was the longest beach in the world, but nevertheless it is credited for being the widest beach in the world with 437 meters

The beach stretches from Fort St. George in the north upto Besant Nagar, Adyar South a distance of nearly 12 kms. The entire stretch of nearly four kms is well maintained with pedestrian footpath and two way traffic. There are two memorials for DMK founder C.N. Annadurai and AIDMK founder and legendary actor M.G.Ramachandran. Apart from these monumental structures, there are number of statues installed on the pavement such as M.K Gandhi, Thiruvalluvar, Actor Shivaji, and Symbolic statue of Labour. The promenade along the beach area is known as Kamarajar Salai.

Marina beach precincts have been used by political parties to conduct meetings to address vast assemblage of crowd in the past. The beach can easily accommodate more than a lakh comfortably. Generally the meetings were held during the night in floodlights. . There was a permanent stage known as Seerani Arangam which was demolished by govt. Ms Jayalalitha, ex CM of T.N. inorder to maintain the beach environs. The crowd would assemble to enjoy their outings more so because of the eateries dished out by foodstalls on the beach. My favourite dish was sundal( made out of boiled kabuli channa with mango slices) in olden days.Tenga Manga Patani Sundal.screamed the vendors.

Nowerdays one can relish very economical fried fish and prawns with local masala added to taste. The oil content may not be healthy in lieu of re-used oil. But nevertheless a small quantity is quite tasty because of the freshness of the fish. There is a vendor who sells fresh water dug out of the beach sand. The water surprisingly is potable and not very salty. He charges Rs 5 a bottle, once again, one may feel slightly perturbed drinking the water but it is perfectly safe. None of us fell sick after drinking this water proves the fact that water is consumable.

One finds plenty of youngsters use Marina surroundings to play tennis ball cricket in the mornings. If one wants to have a drinks break, the vendors are ready to serve tea, coffee, cold drinks, mineral water, lime soda etc to quench the thirst. There are plenty of food stalls who carry out brisk business from evening till 8 pm in the night.

Jogging and morning walkers hit the beach pavement regularly. The idyllic setting with plenty of parking facility lures young and old to Marina beach. In terms of privacy Marina beach offers plenty of space, newly married couple and lovers throng Marina beach. Very few people venture into the water for swimming since the currents are strong and it can be risky, and unfortunately there are no bay watchers too for rescue act. However our bravehearts Mazhar and Azam literally splashed themselves in the waters for sake of photography session. They even requested Santosh and myself not to post some of their bare chested photos. Lol

There are merry- go- around and other make shift play themes for children on Marina. In fact these fabricated play themes can be a good shoot ops. We clicked plenty of photos with their background. One greedy guy wanted to fleece us and he shouted at us. Luckily I intervened and checked with him, he wanted Rs 5/- for using his equipment for taking photos, I obliged and he was happy.

Artificial Waterfall:In Sept 2005 a 34 feet tall artificial waterfall was inaugurated as a part of the Chennai forever initiative. The project was commissioned with a budgeted expense of 15 lakhs

Aquarium:A small aquarium is located near the memorial which displays different species of fishes. An entry ticket is charged for tourist.

On DEC 26, 2004 Tsunami battered the Marina beach leaving 206 people dead, but spared majority of the tourist since it stuck early morning at 8.30 am. But we found that the traces of fear had almost vanished among the visitors. Marina is really a symbol of the Chennaites spirit of survival amidst adversity. If one is lucky, one can have a view of sand castles and artistic structures and figurine of religious gods neatly etched on marina sand.

Epilouge: Many a love stories have been witnessed by MARINA BEACH and the sands of time will witness many more to come. Maybe the seeds are sown for many more reviews on this lovely destination.

Marina The beauty katrina

Marina is the worlds second longest beach well its really that long. The beach is divided into many parts based on names of various leaders of chennai who fought for the nation.

well the gandhi beach is known as the most royal beach and only rich people visit there it is also one of the most decent part of marina. There are two samadhi of anna and mgr in the beach which is made fully of marble and granite, these samadhis are also good looking to visit.

one great thing about mgr samadhi is that when you place your ear near the stone you can hear a clock ticking this clock is mgr (M.G.Ramachandran) own wrist watch which he used all along his life and is still running .

Then there are also various stalls in the beach and one can find women making bajji which is one of the famous food of south there are varities of bajji available like banana, chilly, fish, egg and many more, then you can find people selling chat items like bhelpuri, chanapuri, panipuri, and many such items which are really cheap foods and also tasty.

There are also many rides available for children to play and a person can even go for horse riding which is also one of the most popular stuff and there is also a famous shooting archelory game i.e. a person has to shoot baloons and if he shots more he wins a prize.

Well just words wont express the beautiful nature and the breeze of the beach so in order to know it do come and visit it....

Second Longest Beach In The World
Feb 22, 2004 11:44 AM 5886 Views

Marina beach is the second longest beach in the world. Marina beach is in Chennai, capital of Tamilnadu. It is the major tourist?s attraction in Chennai. The beach is clearly visible from the main road and you have to walk less than 1km to reach the shore.

The beach is situated in the heart of the city and easily reachable from anywhere in Chennai. I am not a resident of Chennai but I have never returned home without playing in this beach whenever I was there. It is always a pleasure being there in evenings. I like this beach a lot mainly because I am residing in a place where there are no any water bodies near. The buses are available from parry?s corner and also from the new bus stand in Koyambedu and from all the local bus stands. The main thing is there is no any entry fee and so you can see all kinds of people of different social status being happy here. In the proximity you have Anna square and MGR square. Anna and MGR are two great unforgettable leaders and also the chief ministers of Tamilnadu.

In the morning, you can see people of all ages jogging in the road near the beach and doing exercise and as the day proceeds the beach becomes empty because of the extreme hot conditions of Chennai but even though you can see young lovers sitting and chatting here and there, as if they don?t mind about the temperature and the hot climate and their love is inert to all these cheap disturbances. And the best time to visit this beach is in the evening. From 4.00 pm onwards the people from all around Chennai will gather there to have a relaxed evening. Families, friends groups, newly married couples, lovers of all ages, lovers of loneliness, tourists peoples, school students all will be there in evening.

The view of the sunset in the evening is really something that one should not miss. Your eyes are blessed to watch the beauty of the beach as the light goes and darkness starts to spread the clear sky with a moon(in a full moon night) in the sky meeting the unreachable land at a point through this beach. The joy of playing with the waves in the beach cannot be expressed in words, it can only be felt.

Apart from the natural beauty of the beach it has a very little more to entertain. There are few games for kids and you can go for a ride in horse. You have lot of stalls on the way on the sand spread through which you reach the waters. You get all kind of food over there. On two sides of the path you can get Sea foods, ice creams, bajji, chat items, sugarcane juice and many more. The thing that I surprised to see is when I saw there people selling drinking water at a price of 0.25 paisa/glass. The specialty of this water is that this water is taken from the pits dig in the sand near the beach but unlike sea water which is salty this water is sweet but comes with a fish smell. I think the sand acts as a filter which filters the salt and leaves pure drinking water. In the proximity you have a swimming pool maintained by the government and they charge some minimal amount for taking bath and it is very useful because after playing in sea water it is necessary to take bath in pure water to avoid the itching sensation in your body.

Other than food stalls, you can find souvenir shops in the same path where they sell toys for kids, chains and other gift articles made out of sea fossils, and many more goods which is very cheap cost and also quality. I would advice not to buy anything from these shops.

One cannot forget the disturbances created by the children selling sundal, murukku, kadalai etc., near the shore. They will not leave you till you buy what they sell. But all these children have a pathetic background. These children are hired for some Rs. 3000-Rs.5000 and these kids have to work and repay the amount and then only they can go back to their parents. Now if you get a chance to visit this beach in day time you can find a van in the beach which serves as the mobile school for these kids with one teacher in each bus. As in the day time these kids have less work the government has started this mobile school near the beach to educate these students so that these kids can have their free basic education here when they are free. I think this is a good thought that no government has done ever. Who knows an Abdul kalaam may be selling sundal and murukku there.

But one thing that I don't like in this beach is the cleanliness,it is too bad and you can't sit anywhere confidently because any s.h.i.t may be there. People who visit this beach are completely responsible for this because they throws the empty wrappers, papers and wastes randomly where ever they like to.So plz let us make this beach blue and clean.

Beach in Reach
Feb 20, 2004 07:39 PM 5565 Views

Marina Beach is one of the beautiful beaches I have ever seen in my life. I had been there when I was on a Project. It was a weekend and a sunny sunday. The roads were shining with the mirage effect.

The car was driven on a slow and very soothing speed, as I was not in hurry at all. The trees around the road were seemingly moving. I was accompanied by a very good local friend of mine who was also on the same project. We had a nice visit together few days back to the Kovalam beach in kerala. But, visiting to this beach was a good experience as I had heard a lot about this beach.

This beach is one of the beautiful and well maintained and mostly populated in terms of the visitors in the Asian region. It gives beautiful and very scenic vision from the shores itself, which is about 1 km away from the road.

The beach has very clean sand and the shore is crowded during the months of summer as the Indian tourists and the visitors from abroad also visit the same for experiencing the beauty of Indian soil. I have felt that most of the foreigners enjoy on the beach more than Indians. They enjoy the freedom and feel very relaxed in the glazing sun under the well maintained seating arrangement on the beach.

The tour organizers make a lot of money for carrying the tourists to this beach. They make the tourists more fussy while setting the stay plans as I had realised while talking to some of the visitors about their stay, they enjoy the stay here but the tour guides and arrangers ask them to pack their bags in one to two days only.

I enjoyed the waters which were blue as sky and the deep inside they were lush green. The water coming from the centre with the strong waves towards shores brings the joy in the heart as it really feels good when we are lifted up while driving ourself up. The scene on the beach comes alive when the sliding boarding guys are seen.

The motor boats are also seen around, the children really enjoy the most as they can't slide the boards, I felt it when the family members were running after their kids to not to go towards the shore end alone. It really gives a feeling of protective parenthood. The greatest scene was that of the boats which were huge and loaded with the fishermen. I liked the most the way they return to shores singing the sweet melodious songs. Their happiness speaks itself the story of their life as its their bread and butter.

I loved to visit this beach , wish you would also go there and enjoy the natural beauty of Indian beaches.
