A very bad experience with dinner Service. Basic Dinner Service must improve. Didn't not expected the food quality. Commented about quality of service, informed that wait staff are newly hired, no supervision on the floor, I think most of the staff are interested in watching IPL match than customer service

One of the most clean and hygienic place where you can actually expect authentic Malabar food. their soft appams and crispy parotas are simply brilliant.
The cooking happens right in front of us, therefore cleanliness is very much ensured.the staff till date every time I visited have been very disappointing as they never respond properly, and also sometimes forget the order.
The music played in the background are literally old yesteryear Malayalam songs, they don't believe that it would effect the younger generation visiting the place because their highest customers are the Christ college students and the SG palya pg members, of which more than half are malayalees. the place is very beautiful done with wooden interiors. the speed of service is truly unbelievable here.
I am delighted to see a great value-for-money Kerala cuisine family restaurant.
The food is of a great variety, authentic taste and flavours even to mesmerise a seasoned native like me. Portions are filling and garnishing adds to the beauty of it all. Take turns to try everything on the menu as everything appears mouth watering.
It is a good place to take your family and provides enough variety of seating options based on group strength, privacy and comfort needs. Expect some noise as the place is crowded but its not deafening. Sitting in the centre of the dining area, you can easily have a conversation without having to shout. Also I felt the transparent kitchen isn't such a great idea for this place unless all the staff in the kitchen are very well-groomed.
Coming to the services, there appears to be the need for some orderliness. It is not clear who are in charge when you need help. Having said that people serving you are eager to help and well intentioned. Its more of a "process challenge" than a "people issue" and will not come in the way of savouring a good eat out experience.Overall a great place for Malabari food and an ambiance that caters to your family.
YOUR RATING ON
I went to Malabar Bay with two of my friends on a weekday. We ordered a duck pepper roast and a chicken curry with Appams, Kerala Parotta and Puttu. When they brought the duck roast, at first we thought the waiter is bringing a plate with left overs from another table. The portion that the duck roast contained was pathetic because it contained only bones and no meat at all(by the way I know duck doesn't have much meat but this was really only bone).
We then realized that 2 side dishes weren't enough for three people. We then ordered another chicken dish which was served in what looks like a clay ice-cream cup(the portion again was really disappointing) and also the chicken wasn't fully cooked.
The only dish worth ordering while at Malabar Bay is the chicken Biriyani which has not disappointed me till date. I hope they increase the portion that they serve because it is simply not worth the money. Overall, I'd not recommend this one, as long as there's a decent option available.
I have lost count of the number of times I have been to Malabar Bay located at Tavarakere behind Christ College, Bangalore. One- it is close to my office and two -very convenient in terms of speed of service and the choice of food. I always start my eating spree here with either a Mutton shorba which is fantastic or a nice manchow sea food soup. It needs no additional tinkering with sauce or other seasoning and is pretty much to my satisfaction and for someone who is not satisfied unless they contribute to additional tastes and dabbling with mindless culinary additions by putting in all of the sauces available within hands reach that’s saying something .
For starters we ordered squid and rabbit which was very impressive. The squid was just right without being too leathery and the rabbit was well cooked but not an outstanding dish and not worth too much mention.
I am not much of a rice or biryani fan. However the biryani here is something that I dont mind really. Its absolutely non greasy malabari style and is a pleasure to eat. The serving portion is not too less to complain about or too much to leave you wanting a crane to lift yourself up. Try their prawn biryani. With that we ordered some Prawn Kondattam (prawn crispy fry) which was just abt ok and not too crispy as much as I hoped it will be . I will not order that again next time. Their fish and seafood fares are much better than other meats. Prawns masala and fry is worth mentioning because they are just scrumptious. Karimeen pollichada (fish wrapped in banana leaf and fried) is their specialty and is much sought after by the regular customers.
For people who eat heavy I would recommend the fish meals thali which gives unlimited side dishes, and fish curry (unlimited gravy only). On my usual days I order netholi (anchovy) fry which again is one of my favorites and is made well. I am not a dessert eater and have never ordered beyond their main course.
The total bill for 4 people came to around Rs.1200 which I think is pretty cool.
Let me know how your experience was.
Bon apetit
