Spining Around With MagicSpin

When we replaced our old computer for our current one, we decided to keep the old one so that the boys could play their games on it. As well as still be able to connect to Aol® where they could play the games they liked on the Internet. And in order to safe me some grief when my teenage daughter wanted the new computer since the old one was now beneath her. Go figure a teenager!

Over time though the CD Rom drive has gone out and so we set out to find a new one. Little did we know that these things could be a little costly. Anywhere from 30 dollars up to over 100 dollars depending on what you get. We just wanted a CD Rom that would read because the new computer has a burner already and a 2nd one was not necessary. We decided on one that cost us 29.99 at our local Staples store. They had the cheapest of all the places we looked including Wal Mart and Best Buy.

The Product

MagicSpin 56X internal CD Rom Kit was the way for us to go. It offers a maximum Data Transfer Rate of 8400 KB/sec. It supports the newest writing formats to allow the old computer to read CD-RW Discs.

It also has Ultra DMA support, which allows less processor bandwidth freeing up the processor for more important tasks in my system.

It uses vibrationless manufacturing technology that allows little vibration to the unit allowing it to work its best at all times.

It came ready to play standard audio CD’s in stereo along with a headphone jack and volume control. This is found on the front panel.

There is also a High Speed Audio Extraction Support up to 27Xs. Supports Ultra-DMA mode 2 with transfer rates up to 33MB/sec. 80ms average seek time. Reads CD, CD-Rom, CD-RW Media as well. And it’s compatible with Windows™ XP, 2000, Me, 98, 95 and NT. (All are trademarks of Windows™.)

How I Feel

It is good to have a working CD Rom once again! It is making my life easy to say the least. The games that the boys like to play take up so much room on the new computer and quite frankly I am a little concerned that one of them may mess up the new computer.

With the old computer working right once again they are happy and that makes me happy. Also, when my daughter is on the new computer I can still use the old one to go and play the games I like to play at https://pogo.com. This is also a good thing.

Over all, it was worth the 2-hour search in town looking for this unit because we got the best price and I believe a pretty good CD Rom drive.

I hope that this has helped in some kind of way.

God Bless!
