Will mid October be a good time to visit Leh Ladakh? Will it be a good idea to take my mother, aged 78 years, but physically fit?

It is high altitude, but as long as you are in good health and free from disease, you can travel to Ladakh like you would anywhere else. Age is not a factor in altitude sickness - at least not in the expected way : the 50+ group cope slightly better.
