Kyra, Avenue Road, Bangalore Reviews

Bangalore India
Apprehensive visit but turned out quite well
Jun 13, 2011 06:06 PM 2931 Views

We were a bit apprehensive about Kyra after reading all the reviews in mouthshut ... but then we had been hearing good things about the place from a friend of mine who's got an office at a stone's throw away (Yahoo). This visit was to the restaurant floor. (I believe they also have a "Bar & Theatre" on the top floor).

The reservation help was pretty good with clear directions being given. However the valets were not very responsive and could not give us to the directions. After being seated we were served a whole lot of starters (matching BBQ Ntn in quality and quantity).

We also tried Sharmajee's special Golgappas. It was pretty awesome. Then we went for maincourse which was largely north indian + one noodle. It was the desserts where we got totally floored (10 varieties if I remember right). Pretty awesome experience. All this for Rs 550 (NO ADDITIONAL TAXES OR HIDDEN CHARGES - WOW!!!)

I must say the place is very good and I am surely going back.

Good for nothing

Not worth while to go. So friend want to go nearby to domlur search any other place not this for sure. Veg starters were really poor. You will find chats in starter main course contains daily veg

plain rice not properly boiled deserts were ok kind of no idea about non-veg items are not tagged.

So u will not get to know b/w veg and non-veg for some items..

so don't like to recommend to anyone.

Thanks

Poor Man's Barbeque Nation ?
Dec 24, 2010 11:37 PM 4740 Views

We had gone to Kyra for a office lunch. The second floor was a decent place but you were asked to go to the third floor as the 2nd floor was full. The third floor is like any "HOSTEL MESS" of Bangalore. There were more people inside than it can accommodate. We were asked to wait for 15 mins even if we had book a table. We had to accommodate two more person in our table.

Regarding the food, the starters were decent, although fresh but not hot. The veg starters were good, the egg bhajji was very good. The chicken starters were terrible in taste.

The lunch buffet selection was good but most of the items were already over by the time we reached the counter. Most of the items were already cold.

So, if you are planning go there then make sure that you get a table in the second floor. over all a decent place for sub 300.00 budget. If you budget is ~600 then try barbeque nation.....

Difficult to find any fault

I went to Kyra with my office team for dinner at a Friday night. As I was organizing the dinner I made sure that we should have nice time at the place we will go. I heard about Kyra from a friend. I searched for Kyra’s review extensively on internet and most of the reviews were positive. So I booked it for 20 people. Our reservation was for 9PM, we reached there on time and were seated comfortably. We took 650Rs Buffet with one mocktails/beer. 5veg and 5 non veg starters were served on our table only. Then we went for main course. Food was freshly prepared and scrumptious. There were variety of desserts also though brownies were not there, gulab-jamun was too tasty. They had a singer Raj there that night playing hindi and English acoustic songs. The ambiance was good and relaxing. I didn’t find any fault in Kyra. Good fast service, value for money and nice helping staff.

Nice place for a romantic dinner.

Nice place. Liked the food and the ambience. Good customer service. Nice interiors. Overall, was a good experience.

I wonder why restaurants are so expensive in India? The price we pay here is almost the same price (Maybe a bit lesser) if we were have to have dinner in a decent restaurant in London or New York or Singapore. I wonder what makes restaurant owners in india feel we earn as much as the others do in other developed countries. Good quality food comes only for a price here and if its cheaper, the quality of food is bad and you end up falling sick.

Not worth it!!!!
Jun 07, 2010 01:07 PM 3867 Views

I recently visited Kyra for a lunch buffet, probably they were running a Maa Ka Khana/Khazana promotion. I tried Kyra as BBQ was completely filled and I couldnt stop my stomach grumbling.. Had great expectations from Kyra, as I had heard about it but never tried it out. I landed up at their restaurant and the rception guided me to the table(Though she did not appear to be pleased on seeing a customer neither she did welcomed us with a warm smile, which is a must in the hospitality industry)

Once we were shown our table, we were left to explore the place, having no clue how to go about, neither did any person attempt to guide us!! But my hunger was on priority so we just found the trail towards food and helped ourselves as it was a buffet. On the table one of their guys ended up with a lime juice, and he did not even bother informing it was complimentary..there was neither a menu in educating about the buffet.

We just dint bother questioning the disinterested people on services. However the Mocktail which we ordered was awesome, ....it had a flavor of Strawberries and grape..which I really enjoyed. But the menu of buffet was not worth it, Khichdi and 2-3 gravies with no desserts(Ya..there was some phirni and ice cream) which did not cheer me up. It was not worth it!!!!!! The ambiance is plain and boring!!!

overall NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE TO TALK ABOUT!!! AVOID IT :(

Good experience overall

Kyra is a suitable place if you are looking for a customised party, a candle light dinner...a birthday party or any special occasion. They have reasonable packages where you can choose the menu, the seating etc. They would arrange flowers candles cakes as per your choice.

I had a wonderful experience at Kyra. I visited the place prior to my husband's birthday and done the booking. They arranged a beautiful table with candles, presented a big bouquet of red roses, got the cake and offered delicious 4 course meal. The portions were huge and nicely served. They also clicked our photographs and told that those will be delivered to us with a photo frame. The entire thing costed Rs. 2000 only. The only bad thing about the experience was that they never sent the photo frame with our pictures and not even sent the photographs through mail.

They have good parking facility too. The restaurant is not at all crowded during the week days.

Bad customer service
Sep 10, 2009 08:39 PM 3062 Views

They might have good artists but they're really really out of their depth when it comes to customer satisfaction.

  • bad food

  • can't take down a reservation properly

  • incorrect information I asked them to add 2 more people to the table my friend had already booked over the phone and they agreed. when I go there, they tell me that they can't and didn't let me get in. couldn't they have told me that on the phone?

With a play they said it'll start at 7. to confirm the timing I called them and they said it's been pushed to 9. when I got there at 9, the play had already started at 8:40. I mean come on, realize the guy taking phone calls is no good. They also said only buffet is available (you have to pay for before going in), but on going inside they were serving off the menu. on top of all this, the manager isn't even willing to accept that they've made a mistake in both cases.

Kyra - AVOID IT!!
Aug 25, 2009 02:14 PM 3634 Views

An extremely "pseudo" place - everything about it sucks.... the domineering person at the entry almost barking at you to wait for your turn, the affixing of the seal on the wrist as if one is entering a prison.

The seating which is completely unsuitable for theater viewing, the absolute lack of training to the service folks who keep walking up and down the aisle right in the line of vision of the folks watching the play, a noisy kitchen with kitchen staff yelling at the top of their voices drowning all the dialogues.

I could go on and on... Bottomline - extremely avoidable place, not value for money in any ways... The divide between the Rs1000 and the Rs 500 tickets is very obvious - almost created as if the 500 Re ticket holders are pariahs/outcasts. If the desire is to sell only Rs.1000 tickets, why have the other category at all.

Unscruplous marketing
Jul 08, 2009 09:28 PM 4044 Views

What happens when a company just bombards your phone multiple times with information you don't need, thats what my experience of Kyra is. I always thought these were mid class companies having nothing better for their marketing have resorted to these means. But going through some of the websites mentionings about it like "Kyra Theater is a 225 seater restaurant with a 26 x 12 x 18 feet thrust stage, state of the art lighting and sound systems." You wonder what is wrong.

So finally I called them wherein a female took my phone and name to do the needful but wala within the next day, another sms had already landed. Ironically for this company its been almost the tenth time, and what excuses they have:

You had visted us earlier and as a valued customer you are receving this: Daah; I never been to that place, so usually I guess they buy the customer list from other related restaurants and use it.

Anotehr execuse thenext time was someone else would have triggered it: Hmmmp, now how lame can that be, the company name is flashing on the top of the sms sender list, if every employee could do that, then we would have no check whatsoever. These sms are specifically being sent via some sms bulk sender software or delegated to third party company.

In one instance the phone was intercepted by their manager itself who assured me this not happening; but what use. The sms train never stopped. Makes me think what image does the company wishes to project at the end of the day.

I am not sure what Kyra is all about but I am pretty sure what its not about, "not keeping customer satisafaction and not keeping its words".

Kyra Theatre Pub Dining
Jun 30, 2009 09:20 PM 6965 Views

Yes, as the title shows; it is a combination of all these. I wanted to put this review under Entertainment - but MS was not accepting it.:( Kyra cannot be put under the category of Food & Drink alone . I visited this happenning place on the spur of the moment .with a young man I consider to be my son, who recommended it to me as we were wondering which restaurant would be open at 7pm . He warned me that the noise might be a bit much . but he assured me that everything else was terrific. And, more than anything else, the fact that kyra is dedicated to the arts - theatre and music was enough to decide for me.

Right from the valet who took my car, to the person at the entrance collecting the ticket( there is an entrance charge for the show of the day - whether it is a band playing or a play being enacted) . We paid Rs.199/- per person( which is usually the charge) and entered. You get a seal( like a voter's mark) on your wrist to show off!

The place is laid out in two levels. The first level has at the far corner a clearly demarkated space for a stage - it was set with the band's instruments already and there is a huge display screen behind the stage. The tables are neatly set with red and white decor and looks very natty. A low flight of steps lead to the next level which is sort of set like a balcony overlooking the stage below so that from every corner one gets a good view! The far end is the bar counter with ample space and bar stools for those who are happy to drink and listen!

They open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm . We were lucky to find a table . The bar menu was good and the wine list quite well chosen. we settled for a couple of Baccardis with sprite . and ordered some short eats . The crowd started coming in . very decent, good folks, with children, friends out for a blast, lovers with eyes only for each other . there were all sorts, mingling well and co existing .

The band members trouped in, were welcomed and the music started. It was a treat to watch the whole effect. The experience cannot be described . it needs to be .well . experienced! .

After I sat down, I wanted to tell my family where I was and realised that I ahd left my cell phone in the car! Panic!. I had heard horror stories of how everything disappeared from the car after giving it for Valet parking etc. from others. We rushed out and tried to get in touch witht he guy who ahd taken the car. The head man or chief of the parking service guys assured me "Madam, please relax, if it was in the car, we will deliver it to your table shortly. the cars are parked a bit far off and someone has to go and fetch it " Not very reassured, I returned to the table. and I told the bearer who was serving us my sad tale. he also assured me .Madam, you will have it back soon. He just smiled at my question of "but the guy downstairs do not know where I am sitting?" .And, in about twenty minutes, someone comes up smiling with my lifeline in hand. and asked me "is this your phone madam?" I could have hugged the chap for joy. Profusely thanking him and the others involved in the whole mele'I could not but marvel at the quiet confidence level of these guys and the level of efficiency they displayed. **Mentally I decided I must thank the owner of this place and write a good review too .

*The food was lovely. just the right flavours, very well presented, fresh and succulent. I personaly loved the Thai Grilled fish served with fresh vegetables and some potato fingers. Mmmmmmmmmm. The memory is enough to make me feel like returning!

In the meanwhile, everyone is having a great time, with good music being belted out. alas! we had to leave as we needed to talk and that is one thing which is difficult to accomplish when a band is playing!

So, reluctantly, we left the place, and I for one will certainly go back, many times over( the fact that it is walking distance from my home is a great advantage!) .

The contact details are: - Kyra Theatre, 2001, Katti-Ma Centre, Above Adidas Showroom,

Phone: 080 43419999, 9632203333.

Email: reservations@kyra.in promos@kyra.in They have a web site https://kyra.in where you can go to check on the forthcoming events; and then choose the night you would like to visit.

The essence of the vision of Kyra theatre is "performance for everyone everyday". They aspire to be the most distinguished and prominent performing arts restaurant in the world.I checked out their web site and this is what struck me as apropriate to quote here:-

*“At the Kyra Theatre we offer a unique opportunity to experience the best local, national and international presenters and performers across a variety of genres. Which is why you will see theatre, puppetry, comedy, circus, burlesque, indigenous film, world music, chamber music, hip hop, jazz, contemporary dance, experiential theatre, world renowned performers and new talent alike, all happening here.”

Wishing this unique initiative all the very best, I hope I have been able to convey the essence of the place through this review. *

Concept comes alive

Kyra - 100 feet road Indiranagar

One of the newly opened concept restaurants cum Pub in Indiranagar, Kyra is located adjacent to Domlur flyover(above the adidas showroom). They have 2 floors, the Restaurant and the Theatre.'Theatre' is on the top floor as they call it and it is no exaggeration to call it a theatre since they have actually designed it as an amphitheatre. You have a stage, tables facing the stage and a 1st floor with bar which makes the experience better. Kyra actually has plays, bands, quizzes and plenty of other events. Check Kyra.in for the various events.

We were at Kyra on 17th May(Sunday) and a band called'Thermal and a quarter' were to perform. They had a Rs200/- entry charges(not covered). The band played some good nos but was not much fun since I lack the interest in Rock or metal. Only groovy adrenaline nos seem to work for me. We were a group of 4. We ordered a pitcher of Daiquiri and Mojito(900/- & 700/- respectively) with 2 chicken quesadillas(250x2). The quisedella were amazing but the cocktail pitcher tasted nothing more than lime water. The cocktails were devoid of alcohol. 1600 bucks all down in drain. We also tried one of the alcoholic jellies(Watermelon and strawberry) which did taste like vodka but were not good enough to give a high which they boasted would definitely help.

In all the concept is truly amazing and cost effective. You can spend a great evening for just 400/-(If alone I'll order a quisedella and a beer). The ambience is good and the crowd is mixed. I could see a mix of corporate profesionals, young, foreigners, families with kids etc.

In all my experience was overall good and I look forward to be at Kyra for some interesting activities/performance like quizzes, standup comedy, art and literature, sports congregation.

Infact they are holding a quiz on 18th May and we are planning to be there.

Kyra Theater

YYou are going to be sitting out there and playing those melodious songs for us. I know and more than that the hospitality you taught your staffs are overwhelming. I swear and this has to be one way to let the world know that if anybody who comes down to Bangalore should visit Kyra. The thought and my lost words won’t be enough to understand for those who read this. So I’m sure this review can be written in ‘X’ words and within which I shall reveal the brand ‘Kyra’.

KYRA

Kyra Theater is something which I came to know based on the conversation with its owner (I shall reveal his name at the end of this review) is to encourage young talents with a decent crowd who comes to this Restaurant to dine and wine. Well, it’s something great when ‘Kyra’ believes in the fact that art and music has to be given priority over the market tactics people use to ruin them over business. Sad but true!!

Are you looking out for an opportunity?

Well, its never late I must confide. Kyra is looking out for you wherein you get to perform, expose and enlighten your talent to the world. Just play and who knows, tomorrow the kids may read out your name in history. I meant ‘Dreams come real’. Just follow and you just need a base for it to happen.

Coming back to Kyra

It’s a 225 seated restaurant which is located in Indiranagar (100 FT Road), Bangalore. I have been here and will visit again. Because… I love art. Art is not restricted to any unusual bonds. For an individual, art could be poetry, music or painting. I shall choose music among the rest since I love it so close to my heart.

Have you heard about ‘LIFE’?

Music is life… The rain must fall… Yes… And the songs that they play will take you through many places. Did you know…? Did you ever thought about the fact that we all live for once. And you got to be happy since we all live for once and when we leave the world, the memoirs will remain deep within us. This is something which is not linked with the review but then this is what truth is all about. This is what the artists play in ‘Kyra’. I was there for about 3 hours. I heard ‘him’ playing songs that touched my heart and tugged my soul. It’s a unique experience and for all the time spent in Bangalore, I feel this place is unique from the rest of the restaurants I dined and wined.

*Hospitality

*Awesome!! I am impressed by the way they treat their customers. Have you been to a solitary state of mind? Well, I’m one among the loners drift around the world to learn ‘humanity’. Kyra did impress me with their ‘hospitality’. All you got to do is, ‘ask’!! The response would be ‘Is there anything else that I can help you with’. I’m truly impressed and it’s something so called ‘biggies’ needs to learn. You come and start a business but the choice would be left within us. Yes, I am a citizen and my presence in the society is as important as who lead this country. Freedom of expression!!

Is it worth?

I did enjoy. If you are going with your friends or family, the crowd you face is as decent as you are. There are no worries about being left alone in the crowd. It’s a different world altogether. I guess, like me they believe in the tag line ‘I am special’. They do treat everyone with the same tag line mentioned before this line. Yea, they do!!

How do I get there?

Address :2001, Katti-ma Centre, 100 Feet Road , Indira Nagar , Bangalore- 560038

Landmark :Above Adidas Showroom

*Who is playing?

Well, like I said it’s an art restaurant and everyday there will be one or the other bands playing to entertain the family or people come out for dinner. It’s fun when we have a live band performing in front of us. But when we have a Mouthshut member who is also a Rock Star performing in front of us is extremely thrilling. When I reveal the fact that this Restaurant/Theater is owned by Rajeev (psyxx) is enough for us to visit and enjoy the music he plays.

*Cover songs? Drinks? Food?

You get everything out there. All you got to do is, just visit and experience it. Come on, if you are in Bangalore already I recommend you to visit the place at least once and see the difference. I bet you won’t come back and abuse me.

Now, all I can say is…

My friend when you played this song, it touched my heart... tugged my soul...Did you know...it was all going to go so wrong for you. And did you see it was all going to be so right for me. Why did we tell you then. You were always the golden boy then. And that you'd never lose that light in your eyes. Did you realize what you'd become. And did you see that it wasn't only me you were running from

Did you know all the time but it never bothered you anyway. Leading the blind while I stared out the steel in your eyes. The rain fell slow, down on all the roofs of uncertainty. I thought of you and the years and all the sadness fell away from me. And did you know...I never thought that you'd lose the light in your eyes

Have a nice time if you into music. Have a great time if you are a foodie. Have an awesome time if you are with your family to this Art Restaurant.

Now, shall I say ~finis~?
