Luxury in the middle of a Jungle !!! :) :)
Jul 28, 2017 12:42 PM1193 Views

I and my hubby stayed at the resort for 2 days in may, 2017. Went there to celebrate my birthday. The stay was really comfortable. We had a quite spacious and comfortable room in the middle of the jungle.

The location is superb, we found different birds of species. The best thing about this place is there is no mobile tower connectivity you can stay in peace forgetting all the tensions. But in case of anything for an emergency, there is wifi available.

Two things which need special mention were their swimming pool and buffet. The pool was kept sparkling clean, despite having ample of trees all the side. It's an infinity pool so you can imagine your self in the middle of the jungle.

Views are breathtaking from the infinity pool. The buffet had a very good variety of cuisines from the local food to continental, Mughlai, Chinese, Italian etc. The food standard of the buffet is excellent. Great presentation. And to top it all live music being played every night for the diners, just sets makes the mood so lively.

The evening chai with fresh bhajis is just out of this world. After swimming, this would be the right place to rush too.

A shout out to all the staff from the bell boy to the waiters, room services, front desk really polite and helpful human beings. They all go out to make your kurumba experience super pleasant!

Amazing getaway in lap of natur away frm pollution
Oct 13, 2010 09:27 PM3361 Views

Vacation in short:

Time of our visit: SEP 06 2009 (2 night pkg)

Group:                   7 adults (3 couples) and 2 kids

Experience:            Food spree. Amazingly crazy - you will fall in love with it.

Staff:                      Very friendly and co-operative.

Food:                     unlimited all meal. Excellent.

Most of the time spent @ food court & pool.

Rooms:                1 Suite & 1 Dlx: wood, excellent, clean.

Resort Type:       4*, a bit expensive (as expected but wort it).

Price per Night:  Rs 6500/- for Suite and Rs 5500/- for Dlx room.

Review on resort in short: Other than those rated by default as per site request.

Pool: 6/5 - 6 for the view that you get from the pool, simply superb.Staff: 5/5Booking convenience: 3.5/5 - 3.5 because the booking executive did not show enthu (very lathargic) in the beginning but was very helpful during the booking process.Plantation tour: 4/5Facilities: 4.5/5 (Has TT and other play area for kids)Recommended: 5/5

Location: 10/5 - 10 because- It is in the lap of mother nature. Home away from home. All of us liked it so much I can feel it even after one yr.Site seeing: There are 2 options: 1. Visit lot of local places ooty, coonor et all .... (most of them commercialized now - I felt so while driving to the resort)  there are plenty 2. Stay at resort and enjoy the beauty/hospitality either way you will enjoy.we chose the later one.View from any co-ordinate of the resort: 5/5 (even from the bath room tub the views are amazing).

Now for some more details includes review and our journey & experience and lot more: Can ignore if you want. This is just to describe our experience.

*Last september we a group of closely knit friends 3.5 couples with kids were planning for a vacation when one of the friends indicated Kurumba, we had a look at their web site and liked it very much especially the spouses liked it a lot but looking at the rates thought will drop but made up our mind to go for it and keep it a surprize treat to the spouses.

So our journey started from Hyderabad, took a train to Bangalore and hired a Force traveller vehicle for our vacation. We headed towards coorg (spent 2 nights in club Mahindra - amazing resort again, skipping it here). Celebrated our friends B'day at Coorg Club Mahindra & Started for Kurumba @12:30AM, then started our adventure.

Passing thru Bandipur and Madhumalai forests was good (took the safari but you can skip it nothing great about it. Not much wild life was spotted -  at least it depends on ones luck. Saw a lot of Deers and a couple of elephants, we were expecting to see tigers and all. over all avg safari).

What we did not expect is that from coorg to kurumba is you need to take the ghat section - amazing views/scenic drive, early morning fresh non-polluted mist (rarely found in cities), planatations et'all.

couple of folks were down with the ghat section bends. We had a refreshing hot chocolate coffee @ CCD in coonor, couple of hairpin bends and a few Km there will be a right turn leading to a kaccha Rd that leads to the resort. Bang!!! There it is and we announce - Kurumba, and the folks/spouses that were down suddenly get charged up and get down and get exited. Such was the hype we created that we were going for some jungle resort some where on the other side which they were not very interested.

BTW if you want to avoid the ghat section for most of time - Then reach Coimbatore and take the Nilgiri Railways toy train (one of the steepest tracks in India) and get down at coonor or some where near I don't remember and can avoid mos of the ghat. Children will like the toy train experience a lot. But believe me ghat section is one of the most scenic route in south India.

We get a good welcome drink and are check'ed into our rooms. 1 Suite and one Dlx cottage where were close by. Suite was a duplex, one room each on each floor. The views from the Sit Out of the rooms is amazing: facing the mountain covered by white mist/clouds in the early morning and evening. Each cottage is sitting on a small hillock.

BTW Tipu Sultan was in exile in the mountain for quite some time, You can see the cave also.

The rooms by itself were mostly wood, and soaps and shampoos and other toiletries used in the resort are organic, chemical free mostly made out of their own farms (at least that was what we were told). The view from the bath tub was also amazing like from the sit out. It was almost past lunch time and we were all hungry.

Now to the food, the best part of our trip. The dining area is on a small hillock and facing the forest and mountains. One can eat, drink and have gr8 time hear looking at the nature, a small stream can be seen flowing thru the resort. Proper care was taken not to disturb most of the nature part in the resort which is good. Had a lot of food which was very tasty and hit the pool and we all played some games in the pool till it was snack time and had some good snack and chit chatted for a long time and Night fell and it was dinner time. Had good food again. The menu was almost never repeated during out stay. Believe us we were either eating and chatting or playing in the pool for most of the time never got bored of it.

Then next day had a good break fast the waiters and the cook never complained how much ever we ordered ... various types of omelets, bread, etc ... Reason: The number of cottages are limited of number of guests are limited so attention is more and good more over it was kind of off peak season for them and other than us there were a couple of couples and a TV crew that arrived late in the night.

Now coming to the hospitality: Ideally only 1 couple and 1 PAX extra are allowed per room, but we all wanted to be in same room so that we can talk endlessly and have fun, so we requested them to shift all of us into the suite room and they obliged (of course the Dlx room was still with us). Believe me 7 adults and 3 could fit into one single room and we had a good time. We also asked for a camp fire which the Mgr agreed but Rain played the spoil sport and we had to avoid it. We asked for some spices and they got them for us from the local Mkt.

Plantation tour was educative and we had good trek around the resort. Came to know quite a few things form the guide. This was adequate. Info was more than sufficient and at time interesting.

Did you know Kurumba is a native tribe of the forest and can talk to the elephants thats why they are employed as guard to keep the pachyderms at bay at nights. They are your friendly neighbors but is safe.

Alas the day to depart had come and all of us were sad to leave the place. Most of them had some medication to avoid puking back on the ghat and headed back to B''lore. Over all the resort was good and we all relish it till date and are longing again to re-visit it. Even today after one yr we have very fond, beautiful and pleasant memories of that trip.

Have been to Goa last week and returned on this Monday, will have a review for that @ some other place. Bay Watch Beach resort... another good one. But I would say not as good as this.

Thanks for being so patience and all for all those who made it till here :D. Hope this give some good idea on the coonor/ooty area.

Drawback with 5 star rated resorts(sad aftersales)
Nov 21, 2009 04:43 AM4164 Views

I happened to book Kurumba village resort for 2 nights 27th and 28th nov 2009....however unfortunately due to nature (heavy rains and landslides at Nilgiris), Kurumba resort had to shut down and I got a call last week on 13th stating that they are cancelling all the reservations upto march 2010 and they would refund the full amount by check which would take atleast a week's time..

I enquired if they could do an online fund transfer to which they willingly agreed and asked me to provide my bank account details and they would deposit the amount the very next day...i send across my bank account details(citibank account) last friday 13th nov and did not get any refund till tuesday  17th...called them on 17th evening they asked me if I could provide them any icici bank details so they could deposit cash the very next day...

I provided my wife's icici bank details immediately over the phone...they promised to deposit cash the very next day wednesday 18th...today is friday 20th and I have still not got my refund and I am following up with these guyz and what assurance I get.."sir we will deposit the cash tomorrow for sure" I just called 20 mins back and was told that they would deposit the cash on monday 23rd nov into the icici bank ...now I need to wait and see when I would ever get my refund....

Heard a lot of good things about this resort...this was my first visit however it did not materialize and now I am running around for my own refund...seems these 5 star resorts are sad at refunding customer amounts incase bookings are cancelled...

Guyz please share with me your experience incase anyone else is also facing same issue with the refund from Kurumba resort coonoor..

Btw I had paid 13k in full still awaiting refund...

Thanks

Rahul

Kurumba Village Resort - I had nature hangover after I returned. Loved It So much.

I was in Kurumba on 15th & 16th Sep'08 for our 1st wedding Anniversary . I must say I didn't regret our decision. We completely enjoyed ourselves. We were given cottage - 104. Paid approx INR 5300 per night. Here's what I've to say:

  1. Distance - Approx 35kms from Ooty - takes about an hour. Ahead of Coorg. Warmer during day but pleasent during nights.

  2. It's a proper Jungle Resort. Don't expect it to be lavish.

  3. It cuts you off from the rest of the world as only BSNL works+ Cable is there but doesn't catch signals, just 4 channels - News, Music and 2 Tamil. So it's just you and your group to completely enjoy.  Plus point for me as my hubby could not watch T.V and was 100% with me. Lols.

  4. Staff - Extremely welcoming and warm. Every staff member from Manager to Cleaner, every time they'll meet u, treats you with respect.

  5. Food - is typical south Indian. As we are from North so didn't enjoy much. It's very spicy as spices used are from their own garden. Pure and original.

6.Drinks - They don't have bar so no hard drinks served. You can have yours in room.

  1. Swimming Pool gives you the best view. Must enjoy pool even if u can't swim as water is just 5'4 feet deep.

8.The resort is very neat and clean. Seems like brand new although it's 3 years old as they say.

9.No food or snacks are served in Room. you need to go to resturant which is open and gives you the view of jungle valley.

10.In your room, all you can hear is birds chiripping or sound of a small stream flowing thru resort. It's calm and total privacy. It will bring you close to nature.

We loved it. hope you will too.

Heaven on Earth! Trust Me

Indeed! A place to stay away from crowd and your daily life as well. Reaching Kurumba is like reaching to a place which you have never ever imagine or just have seen in your beautiful dreams. The moment you take right turn on Ooty - Mettupalayam road it makes you feel that you have taken the right decision for your vacation.

It’s on Nilgiri's mountain and from the top you will never think that a paradise is covered with tall trees and mountains and awaiting for you to welcome.

Kurumba resort is a beautiful, picturesque place. They have great staff, wonderful cottages and amazing & breathtaking natural beauty around, which will allow you to lost in the beauty and say 'Thank You God' for making our earth so beautiful.

They have carefully preserved the natural stream, which runs in front of the cottages. You can hear all melodious songs of bird and sound of stream, which take your tiredness away, and perhaps you will feel that you have re-claimed your life here.

They have spacious, beautiful and well architect cottages. Their rooms and bathrooms are well maintained and hygiene. Each area of their entire resorts are well maintained and pleasingly crafted.

I with my family planned for 4 day vacation where 2 days in Kurumba and rest 2 days for Kodaikanal. But trust me I don't know where 2 days gone in Kurumba and I wondered why I have opted for just 2 days for here. I have decided that next visit I'm going to come here for not less than 4-5 days.

Its not recommended for old age people as the cottages, restaurant and other facilities are very far from each and one has to climb up and go down for those stuffs.

Find more about them @ https://kurumbavillageresort.com, their tariff is about INR 5500 - 9750 (depends on season and cottage type).

Tribal break
Mar 04, 2008 09:53 AM3970 Views

Break away from city life in inevitable in our stressful routine these days. That’s why we find conventional concept of a long vacation is out and now it is the time for short weekend breaks, which helps to rejuvenate.

I was looking for a break form my hectic schedule & while deciding on the place got to hear/read about many places. A naïve name ‘Kurumba Village’ did catch my eyes most & I booked my tickets. Kurumba Village [KV], named after one of the five ancient tribes of Nilgiris - Kurumbas.

Enjoy the toy train travel from Ooty or Mettypalayam [the train travels between Ooty n Mettupalayam] & get down at Coonoor. If one is looking for an adventurous trip, you can opt for the busses going to Mettupalayam after getting down at Coonoor. I had booked a pickup with the resort guys. Half an hour drive through a picturesque road & then need to take a right turn from the main road. And guess what!

I entered a completely new world - kachhi sadak, sky touching trees, aroma of spices, tribal look cottages spread across. Did they send me an Indica or it was a sputnik to bring me to this amazing land? Came back to senses with a warm voice ‘Welcome to KV’. I saw a couple of visitors too with kids making noise.

Was heading towards the cottage after having the fresh coconut water as welcome drink, when could hear a river murmuring & birds chirping around and decided to explore around before relaxing. Huge area covered with green with cemented pavement to walk around. KV offers two mode of accommodation, cottage n suite. Cottage is big enough [I would prefer to imply the word big rather than spacious] for 2-3 people. Room was bigger than average & the best part is the balcony with cane chairs. The best way to spend time amidst nature is sit in balcony with a cup of tea/coffee and a good binocular [it would be better you one recognizes various birds]. Or, use the hammock to sleep. The cottages are well distant and management had given their best to enjoy nature by tv in each rooms with limited channels & the best part is the entire area is with no network. At times mobile signal is available at the dining space, but too feeble. We were trying to reach the main road post dinner and after walking for sometime [read reaching the bridge] could not make out anything, as it was completely dark & was not carrying torch.

The 3 days 2 nights package includes accommodation, three time meals, morning tea/coffee and usage of indoor/outdoor games with no room service. Oh, now I must mention about the pool. Blue splash in green, very cool n well maintained. There is small pool for children too. A walk in the spice garden early morning will make one to hog onto breakfast and a guided trek to river side will really challenge your physical fitness J

Don’t get afraid if you wake up in the mid of night hearing the drums or crackers, it must be the elephants intruded within human locality or nearby tea-garden.

Night, while going back to cottage, one will find the KV folks spread al over with big torches to show you way. Amazing way to maintain serenity of darkness.

I enjoyed my stay with:

  • Being with loved ones

  • Completely with nature

  • Essence of tradition

  • Food spree

  • Away from work/stress [no coverage]

  • Fitness activities – spice walk in morning, swimming pool, trekking activities and walk all the way till dining space even for evening tea/coffee

  • Excellent service

  • Last but not the least the Pool

I cherished the real meaning of'joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift'.

Ideal for honeymoon & enjoy weekend serenity.

Kurumba village resort is located near Coonoor, around 30 km away from Ooty and on the ooty-mettupalayam route.

The resort is located on a hill side and the view is breathtaking. Its a cool and quiet place surrounded by hills and you will see only greenery around you. Its the best place you can choose to relax and refresh your senses. This is best suted to families as well as honeymoon couples.

The facilities in the resort are plenty. There is a good restaurant that serves 5 star quality food, swimming pool, games room, reading room etc. There is no mobile signals other that BSNL accessible here. you need to depend the the land line to make outside calls. The service is excellent here and the staff is very friendly. The resort is maintained very well. You can go for trekking into the near by forest and resort also arranges sight seeing trips to ooty and conoor on request.

The itinerary I choose was to stay in the resort for 2 nights 3 days and after checking out on the 3r day took the toy train from conoor to Ooty . This is one this I would recommend everyone visiting Nilgiris not to miss. Ooty is pretty congested and there is nothing much to see more than a day.

Roads in Nilgiris are in a very bad condition and I would not recommend anyone to drive from Bangalore to Ooty. Bus connectivity is good from Bangalore.

Good serene environment, hidden amidst the mountains this is the place you want to be at. This is the place where you forget everything and get close to nature. With the natural waterfall running next to your room, all you can feel is relaxation. Very nice location and courteous staff. Very helpful and friendly staff who would go to ask lengths to make you comfortable. For can be better but there is a lot of variety. Must visit and amazing place
