A Good and Fantastic Tourist Place

I am happy to the review of my recent travel to Kuala Lumpur(Malaysia). It was the very memorable journey of my life. I stay there for around four days.

I have started my journey from Kolkatta airport. I have already booked my ticket two months back for a comfortable journey from a tour operator.

My flight was at 2 am from Kolkatta airport. After approx 3and half hours journey, our plane landed at Bankok airport, where I stay for approx four hours.

Now we shifted to Thai Airways for the journey to Kuala Lumpur. After three hours of a journey, I reached Kuala Lumpur airport. Because I go there through a tour operator so everything was arranged by them only which has included our food, lodging watching sight seen. So I have relaxed no worry for anything.

The Malaysian airport was very beautiful and attractive. This was my first foreign tour so I was very happy and excited.

On the first day, we went to local sight seen like The world famous Twin Tower which was very marvelous and I can, t say and describe in words. At night we got lunch in a good restaurant.

Next Day we went to Genting Hiland which was nothing but an amusement park. We also visited a cave which was very nice. We also visited local sight seen the whole day.

I purchase a watch and chocolate from there. Malasia is a very neat and clean place for living. On the fourth day, I came back to Kolkata and finally to my hometown.

Selamet Datang

Selamet Datang. Welcome to KLIA terminal. Inspired by the Hong Kong airport design, KLIA has invested considerable time & resources to make itself a truly world class air travel hub in Asia.

True to Malaysia, Truly Asia's theme, it has facilities catering to people from almost all parts of the world. Whether you are in transit of travelling to/from KL, KLIA has all comforts one may desire for.

The shopping options are not that great for those who like airport duty free shopping. A lot of items that you can pick up in India town or China Town are available at special prices in certain corners of the airport. Be very sure with your travel documents as the immigration staff is not very co-operative. We cannot blame them as they are flooded with illegal immigrants from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India etc.

For Indians, you won't feel in a very strange land as you can see plenty of Indians around the terminal as passengers, airport staff & airlines staff. KLIa has been strategically located to be a convenient terminal for many provinces around Kuala Lumpur apart frm KL like Port Klang etc. So be sure to mark some time to reach the terminal.

for single travellers with just a hand bag or backpack can avail the use of KLIA express train which will drop you at KLCC [the junction for sky trains] at less than half the price of the taxi. taxis are expensive whether prepaid or negotiated fares. Most often than not, the taxis in KL do not follow the meter for tourists

Kuala Lumpur International Airport is Grand!

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at Sepang, Malaysia is a nicely designed, efficient, competitive and world-class hub airport. This new large airport, complete with the latest technology and state-of-the-art facilities seems to provide maximum passenger safety, comfort and convenience. It is unique because it has within its boundaries all that is needed for business, entertainment and relaxation. You have to see the beautiful airport yourself to believe me. KLIA is a great place to look around!

This ultra modern airport seems to have been opened in mid 1998, and is considered as one of the most modern airports. I have no doubt about that after seeing this fabulous airport. I have seen the Riyadh airport, Jeddah airport and Dhahran airport, but I don’t think they can match the beauty of KLIA in any way. KLIA is fully computerized in its airport management system including baggage handling. This airport has many high tech features.

We had the opportunity to wait at this airport as transit passengers, when we landed there from London, on our way to Chennai. We had fourteen hours to catch our connecting flight to Chennai. Since my husband was not comfortable with the idea of going out of the Airport to see Malaysia, I settled with just going around the airport to see all the duty free shops and other food and retail outlets. It was fun!

KLIA also provides the necessary traveling amenities such as travel boutiques, hotel desks, banking kiosks, airline ticketing, ATMs, taxis and car rental services. Don’t you think that makes your traveling experience more pleasant?

I liked the mini train, which somewhat looked like the electric train of India, but was very grand and look sleek in structure. It is called KLIA Express and it is very fast and takes the way to the city through the airport. These high-speed trains depart and arrive every day from KL City Air Terminal. (KL CAT). At KL CAT, you can check in your luggage and receive your boarding pass if you are flying with Malaysia Airlines. Then, you can ride the KLIA Express within half an hour, which runs every 15 minutes. You don’t need to worry about missing your flight. This train service is another wonderful thing, which I liked at the airport.

There are three main complexes in the airport. They are Main Terminal Building, Contact Pier and the Satellite Building. Numerous food and beverage outlets serve the airport and they are situated on the Departure and Arrival levels of the Main Terminal building as well as the Satellite building. The main terminal and the satellite building are linked by a 180-people capacity ''aero train'' that leaves every 5 minutes.

KLIA is designated as a non-smoking airport. However, two specially designed public smoking lounges are provided for the convenience of travelers.

I went around looking at all the shopping outlets, from duty-free to specialty shops. Lots of shops selling perfumes, balms, and chocolates of different flavor, cosmetics, liquor, wine and cigarettes. There are some Body Shops also. Other stores offer jewelry, electronic and leather goods, watches, CDs, books and magazines, pewter items and batik clothing.

Inside the airport, there are convenient foreign exchange and telecommunication facilities as well.

When we were there at the KLIA, it was raining outside, which we could see through the glass partition of the structure.

The Malaysian currency is called RM, which means the Malaysian Ringgit. It comes in denominations of RM 1 To RM 100. I bought a Malaysian made paperweight as a souvenir to remember my stay at KLIA. It cost me RM 6, which looked quite cute, with a floral design, carved inside.

Hundreds of public phones are located throughout the airport, mainly at the Arrival and Departure areas, and are generally in good working order. These phones accept Amex, Diners Club, MasterCard and Visa cards, as well as smart cards that can be purchased at the airport. The change required for a call to the city is 30 sen (1 ringgit = 100 sen).

Food and beverage outlets are located at the main terminal and satellite buildings, both before and after Immigration and Customs checkpoints. They include McDonald's, DeliFrance, and other restaurants, bars and cafes. We had our breakfast at DeliFrance, a quick snack restaurant. The tuna sandwiches we had there was very tasty.

The very striking thing, which I noticed in the airport, was its cleanliness. It was so clean and kept neat. At every nook and corner, I could see a washroom, which were again clean and kept tidy.

Since we were waiting there for quite a long time, we were able to meet many other passengers and chat with them to spend the time. Most of them were traveling from the U.S to Chennai, and some from Australia. It was tragic to meet a lady, who was crying all the time, as she was rushing from Malaysia to Vellore, in Chennai, to see her son, who had met with a motorcycle accident. I was praying with her and consoling her for her son to regain consciousness and get cured soon.

Another instance I can remember is about seeing a famous personality at the airport. It was none other than our own film Director, Maniratnam. He was sitting in a corner, alone. Our people from U.S, on seeing him got so excited that they went to him, shaking hands and talked with him for sometime. He looked exactly like how we have seen him in photos, with his gray hair.

Well, I must say, I enjoyed my time spent at the beautiful Kuala Lumpur International Airport. I recommend it to you also if you get a chance to try flying by the Malaysian Airlines, to be able to enjoy seeing the grand Malaysian airport along with the services offered by the Malaysian Airlines.

Bad Experience
Mar 09, 2001 06:20 AM 3639 Views

Last month I took a flight from Chennai to Sydney – transit point is at Kuala Lampur.

since this is my first trip abroad – I was fascinated by the beauty of KL Airport – compared to the sydney airport I think KL is much much bigger – since we have to walk along big corridors there are lot of escalators for that. There is also a mini train to carry us across platforms. There is a big shopping centre inside the Airport which is tax-free – you can get almost anything you want.

Now the bad things happened there – I found out the authorities are not very friendly here, I reached KL airport around 7.00AM in the morning – the transit flight to sydney is at 10.00Am,I stood in a queue to get the boarding pass – there they are asking some unnecessary questions as if I am going to enter Malaysia and they don’t know english well , there was an old man who is having US passport (he is indian)

Has been harassed by the officials – since you don’t need a visa from US to visit Aus , there is no visa stamped in his passport , since the officals are ignorant(!) about this they put him into really pathetic situation , instead of cowing down he said that he is going to sue them for harassing him – then they begged pardon and let him go around 9.50 Am – the second call to boarding sydney flight was over ,so the poor man has to rush to get into the flight in nick of time.

I was very tired – so I slept immediately in the flight , to my horror after 2 hours – the flight is still in KL airport – due to a technical snag ,then they asked everyone to alight from the aircraft – as it would go only in the night 8.00pm

Remember I am in Malaysia boarding an Malaysian airlines can’t they arrange for another flight there ?

They arranged us a hotel in Shah Alam to stay – then a bizarre thing happened except indians others were given temp visa to enter malaysia within minutes , but for us they made to stand in a one queue which is very big one, I stood there for 4 long hours before reaching the hotel at 5.00pm – its one hour drive from the airport – since I have to come back by 8.00pm – I just took bath and ate something in the hotel and rushed back to get into the flight again to sydney,it was no problem for me as I am a bachelor but you should think about the women and crying children - it was terrible.I don’t know why the old man from USA was also asked to stand there with us – even though he was an US citizen ,only problem was he was an indian, I think there is some kind of racial discrimnation for indians.

I just wanted to share my experience with my fellow mouthshut members, without any prejudice for malaysia.I had a very nice(!) experience in my first trip to abroad which would linger in my memory through out my life *.

Ultramodern, very courteous

I happenned to be a transit passenger both onward and return journey and found that it was a pleasant experience in this airport.

The airport is very neatly maintained, spacious and the staff are all the more helping. It is an ultra modern consturction with multple buildings for various terminals towards various destinations. There are in-airport trains to transport you across these terminals. There are multiple display legends about arrivals and departures along with their time and terminal numebrs together with how to reach those terminals. You really don't need to ask any one for any kind of help. Things are so meticulously arranged that you will not need any help from airport personnel.

And for the passengers, a good number of counters are available so that the waiting time is almost nil.

Please make sure to declare the value of all the currency and travellers cheques in current figures (atleast approximate, if not very accurate) failing which you are liable for detention by the airport authorities.

I found this airport better than Newar International Airport, US in all respects.

I suggest to all MouthShutters who travel to US to pick up their tickets from Malaysian Airlines and utilize the opportunity to drop in at this airport. If you are lucky enough to get a break journey for more than 8 hours, it is all the more desirable, for you could visit the world's tallest buildings (Twin Towers) in KaulaLumpur and caves (I don't remember the name) where you could feel the presence of Indian culture with a couple of ancient Indian temples.

Sadly, I really doubt if any Indian international airport can reach such a level, if not the infrastructure, atleast basic facilities like drinking water, toilets and the helping nature of airport staff towards the passengers.
