Get snappy!

I'm not particularly into photography and I'm not one of those people who gets their camera out whenever they get the slightest chance and try to take photos of everything, but I do like to take photos  occasionally, in special occasions and on holiday etc, and when I do it will usually be done on this camera. It is the Kodak Camera KB 10 and I think it is quite a good one. Today I thought I would write a review of my experience with the camera so far, don't expect any technology blah though as I'm not that clued up about gadgets but as I have some experience with it I will just go down the list of specific criteria and tell you what I think about each bit.

Price & Availability

Right now you can purchase this camera from Amazon which is quite good value for money considering when it first came out it. If you bought it from Argos or Amazon now you would be saving off the original price. The camera should be available to buy from most electrical stores where it is currently on offer, and it is also widely available to buy online.

Picture Quality

For those who have not used a digital camera before, I should let you know in case you are unaware that on the back of digital cameras there is a screen that allows you to view the pictures you have taken. This is much better and handier than taking pictures with the old kind of cameras, as this new design enables you to see whether or not it was a good photo and you have the option to delete it if you don't like it. The screen on the back of this camera is 2.7inch and the image is really clear so that you can see what the pictures look like. I would rate the picture quality as 4/5 as like I say it is really clear and good quality.

Range & Quality of Features

When I bought this I had heard that it had a 3x optical zoom which is supposed to be a really good feature. I really like that you can zoom in on photos that you have taken and somehow it seems to make the photos seem much more exciting. For example if you have taken a picture of a view from the top of a mountain as you thought it was very scenic, you could zoom in close to things when you get home and have another good look. So it really is like capturing the moment. But the thing with the zoom is that it isn't as good as it sounds, I think people who aren't familiar with new technology will love it but people who are won't think as much of it. So really it depends which one of these type of people you are. And if you are the former of these two types of people then I'm not so sure you should get the camera in the first place as I am from the latter and even I find this camera quite complicated and sometimes even difficult to use, and I will get to telling you why now.The camera can connect online to enable you to share the photos you have taken with friends and family, through facebook, flickr etc and even by email. I must admit I found it quite complicated trying to work out how to use this feature at first and had to ask a friend to do it for me, although they told me it was very simple to do - I don't believe them though! If you follow the manuals and instructions given to you when you buy the camera then it shouldn't be too hard, I find it easy now I know how to do it. To share these photos once you have got everything sorted is very easy as then all you need to do is press a button 'share'. I think this feature is probably more suited towards the younger generations than elderly people as I don't want to seem stereotypical but most of the older people I know find this a nightmare to work out even which button you press just to take the photo.

Ease Of Use

I think I have basically covered how easy this is to use in the last section of my review but to make it a bit clearer I will say again now that older people will generally find this hard to use and younger people, or just anyone who has more technology experience, will probably find it a bit easier. For me I think this is easier once you have messed about on it a bit and made yourself familiar with it but you might not get the hang of it straight away, as I found it complicated when I first went on it.

Durability

I always get scared about dropping this because I have a horrible feeling that if I did I would break it. That isn't because it seems fragile because it actually feels very sturdy, but I think its more to do with all the features that it has on it and thinking that a knock to it might shut it down completely. I haven't dropped it in all the time I've had it which is a record for me, I have had this about five months by the way, actually thinking about it maybe a couple more than that. I have no scratches on this either which either means I am very good at looking after it or it is a very durable product, and with my history of breaking things I would say it is down to the latter.

Overall Look & Design

I love the way the camera is designed and looks as to me it looks really expensive and quite professional. I have this in black by the way but there are loads more colours you can choose from including red, yellow, blue, I think there is a green and a white available as well. I would have liked a purple one but there wasn't one in the shop when I went to buy it and I have no idea whether or not you can get it now. I would give the look and design full marks because of the variety of colours, the proffessional, expensive look and because I just really like it!

I purchased the KB10 camera 3 months before. Untill it was working, I had no greviances. The picture quality was as per its prices and so no problems.  After 3 months the flash stopped working and event the camera stopped taking images suddenly without any reason. I went to the Manu Studio, Shalimar Baugh (the foolish person) to get it repaired. They spoke that they are not responsible and sould contact the company directly.

It made me wried and so I banged on him. He asked for 7 - 14 days to get it repaired. He never sent the camera for repairing and not even tried to contact the company. Every time he used to say, that he is not responsible for the service after sales. Whereas while pruchasing, he made promises to give service support.

After two months continously giving follow ups and shouting him abusely he replaced my camera. The duration of two months was so pathetic and disgusting.

Kodak should look after these type of  persons before giving the responsibility of his network in such type of persons or should improve the after sales service.

Quality of photografh is not so good.
Jun 30, 2008 12:05 AM23971 Views

Quality of photograph is not so good, but rest is ok. go thru below:

Focus of the lens

Aperture of the lens – adjustment of the iris, measured as f-number, which controls the amount of light entering the lens. Aperture also has an effect on focus and depth of field, namely, the smaller the opening [aperture], the less light but the greater the depth of field--that is, the greater the range within which objects appear to be sharply focused.

Shutter speed – adjustment of the speed (often expressed either as fractions of seconds or as an angle, with mechanical shutters) of the shutter to control the amount of time during which the imaging medium is exposed to light for each exposure. Shutter speed may be used to control the amount of light striking the image plane; 'faster' shutter speeds (that is, those of shorter duration) decrease both the amount of light and the amount of image blurring from subject motion or camera motion.

White balance – on digital cameras, electronic compensation for the color temperature associated with a given set of lighting conditions, ensuring that white light is registered as such on the imaging chip and therefore that the colors in the frame will appear natural. On mechanical, film-based cameras, this function is served by the operator's choice of film stock. In addition to using white balance to register natural coloration of the image, photographers may employ white balance to aesthetic end, for example white balancing to a blue object in order to obtain a warm color temperature.

Metering – measurement of exposure at a midtone so that highlights and shadows are exposed according to the photographer's wishes. Many modern cameras feature this ability, though it is traditionally accomplished with the use of a separate light metering device.

ISO speed – traditionally used to set the film speed of the selected film on film cameras, ISO speeds are employed on modern digital cameras as an indication of the system's gain from light to numerical output and to control the automatic exposure system. A correct combination of ISO speed, aperture, and shutter speed leads to an image that is neither too dark nor too light.

Auto-focus point – on some cameras, the selection of a point in the imaging frame upon which the auto-focus system will attempt to focus. Many Single-lens reflex cameras (SLR) feature multiple auto-focus points in the viewfinder. https://photografh.com Many other elements of the imaging device itself may have a pronounced effect on the quality and/or aesthetic effect of a given photograph; among them are:

Focal length and type of lens (telephoto or "long" lens, macro, wide angle, fisheye, or zoom)

Filters or scrims placed between the subject and the light recording material, either in front of or behind the lens

Inherent sensitivity of the medium to light intensity and color/wavelengths.

The nature of the light recording material, for example its resolution as measured in pixels or grains of silver halide.

My companion
Sep 16, 2004 08:12 PM21144 Views

Hi Readers,

I bought this camera 2 years ago. Till then it has served as a companion for me. I was about to buy a camera which is cheap, easily operated and with a tag of company like Kodak. So I bought KB-10 ln Rs 795 but now it is just 500.

It is very basic. No auto-rewind,etc. means less technical problems. It can be used without batteries-only flash does not work.

I take it wherever I go-captured great moments.

ONLY FOR OUTDOOR SUNSHINE. Indoors, without proper difuse backlight, images havedark backgrounds.

No zoom means I have to go closer to scene -not always possible. So, now I am thinking of boying a zoom camera, digital. How's that. I have started viewing reviews on mouthshut. Send if any.

Enjoy Your Life
Jul 17, 2004 05:54 PM21657 Views

Life is full of small things. I occationally go back to my past and feel quite nostalgic. When I get the Kodak Camera, I find my unique way to comfort myself. It leaves me excellent pictures, always clear and pleasant. The buttons are easy to use. They response quickly. The quality is OK. I sometimes drop it carelessly. It still works after it. I feel lucky.

Now with Kodak I am never afraid of losing the most beautiful moments. As it's easy to handle it, most people can use it to take pictures for me without too much explanation. It is convenient to carry it with me.

It is economical, too. As a student, I find it suits me. When I buy too costly ones, I will always have to worry how to keep them and fear of losing them while travelling.

I love to bring it whenever I am travelling. Seize the very moment and never leave regret. I love taking pictures and this is just the one I like. I enjoy my nostalgic feelings when I go through the pictures I get from other places and I enjoy the pictures that bring back my past so vividly.

One of the best thing for people who want to learn photography. This is for kids , young people or even housewives who have never held a camera in hand . One of the problems I faced was in low light even with AS 400 film , one cannot get good films. Otherwise picture quality is well O. K. . Now with latest price Ts. 795 and two rolls free it is definitely a worth buy even if you assume life as two years ( Definitely it will last longer than that ).Net cost of camera (Less two rolls) comes out to be 600 Rupees which is very good considering the features.

The cheap champion

The Kodak KB-10 is simply THE most versatile camera I have seen. whatever the others may argue about lack of features, this one scores in perfect ease of use for a beginner. this is my first camera - I got it as a b'day gift from my dad when I was in std. 8th. since then, it has NEVER failed me. this camera has accompanied me on numerous field trips, picnics, camps. it has survived the worst of weathers - it has been dropped from my hands onto a hard rock with the lens open .. even the rain failed to affect it. it has produced the most beautiful of pictures even in conditions of no light. it has never in its 5 years of service until now, got the film stuck, never broken some minute part ..( which its large costly brothers have a habit of) ... I would SURELY recommend this for amateurs .. (which I am) ... in all, this camera gets a five star from me for its love for me!!!

Paisa Vasool!
Aug 08, 2002 12:38 PM22613 Views

Sometime ago I lost a costly camera, while out on a fishing trip. Since I couldnt afford an expensive replacement then, I opted for the Kodak KB-10. Priced at Rs. 999 this camera has proved to be total value for money. I have taken it out on several trips with me - and have some lovely photographs to show. Very basic - almost a beginner's kind of camera - the KB-10 is a techno-phobe's delight!

For a person like me, who is all thumbs when it comes to gadgets and understanding their technology, the KB-10 suits me just fine - as its easy to use and easier to load and take pictures. Of course there are certain drawbacks - to get a good picture you need to stand close to the subject...as in, if you are more than 8 feet away then picture clarity is not assured. There is no zoom or auto rewind. But the plus points are that the camera is cheap, reliable, sturdy and basic.

In an era where there is so much technical wizardry happenning in every product right from a cell phone to a fridge - push this button and see what happens, try a combination of buttons and you get this - the Kodak KB-10 comes as a breath of fresh air. No technical wizardry. Just plain, simple, sturdy and reliable.

Good for casual photographer
Mar 11, 2002 04:31 PM21708 Views

No doubt the Kodak KB-10 is a good camera for the casual photographer and general photography, to be very frank it is not suitable for professionals. beside it's reasonable price and light weight it has also Aspheric 2-element lens, Flash every time, Film load confirmation, Big, bright viewfinder, Sliding lens cover, Large film counter, Mid-roll rewind, Wrist strap etc.

it can be a good gift item also mainly for youngsters who love taking pictures.

one little problem is that you need to push to forward the film after every shot, still not bad.

Good Economical Gift
Feb 07, 2001 07:54 PM22080 Views

This Kodak KB-10 turns out to be a very nice product when it comes to economy.

This camera turns out to be a very nice gift. Economical but a camera none the less.

KB-10 takes excellent pictures for a couple of years. The outdoor pictures are especially enchanting.

But as years fly by the depth and richness in the pictures begin to fade. The livelyness and depth transforms to dullness and shallow low contrast pictures.

All the same its a very good gift for those persons who haven't owned a camera. KB-10 can become their first camera. Can be a gift to a kid of 15.

By the time they grow up they can buy their own better camera.

Nothing to rave about...
Jan 14, 2001 07:43 PM21936 Views

This is a very simple camera with hardly any feature. I wouldn't recommend even for the novice. I expect the camera to have atleast automatic winding feature.

However for those looking for a cheap camera there may not be many choice left.

The picture quality is also ordinary.

If you are looking for some serious photography there are better and cheaper alternatives.
