Horrible

In these distressing times, I found more oil and chana I could count on my fingertips. The quantity, quality was inferior to say the least. I will review this on the social media_i have six more products and shudder to open them. R packing costs more than the useless product

Bukhara's dal makhni
Jul 30, 2015 11:13 AM 5528 Views

Dal makhni is a popular dish in the northern region of India, Punjab. This is made from black lentil dal with red kidney beans, (rajma) with loads of butter and cream cooked over slow charcoal fire with a lot of spices. The dal goes well with tandoori rotis.

The Bukhara dal makhni was made famous by ITC Maury hotel, New Delhi. it is named after the Indian restaurant at Maurya. Today it us being marketed as Bukhara Dal by ITC and is available at all leading supermarkets. The packed dal is portioned for one person and at an affordable price, worth a try.

Plates are great but cups are porcelain
Jul 01, 2015 11:05 AM 5010 Views

These are a nice size and the shape is also nice-has a smaller footprint than the round plates if you are cramped for cupboard space. They are made of the traditional thin Corelle material and are a more "shallow" plate-like the traditional Corelle plain white dishes.

If you like the square shape and want a Corelle set that is a little fancier in solid white that will dress up for formal occasions, you may want to consider the award winning Corelle Scandia White in Corelle's Ultra line. The Scandia White pattern has a fancier mold and the plates are a little deeper and thicker than this set.

The major difference in the Ultra line and this set is the Ultras are 70% thicker than the traditional Corelle and have three layers of "glass" on the finish instead of the one layer on this set-The Ultras have a glossier finish-elegant-and a little more weight.

These are nice, but for the same price at Walmart, you can have the square Ultras.

I spoke with a Corelle rep on the phone and asked her about the difference between this set and the Scandia White set. She said she owns BOTH sets, but is planning to give her set like this away and only keep the new Scandia White set.

The local Walmart did not carry the Scandia White Ultra, but carries several other Ultra square patterns. They also do not identify them as Ultra, but they are Ultra.

Corelle has introduced serving pieces in the past month in the Corelle material that match this set. The matching pieces for the Scandia White pattern are made of stoneware.

This set will give YEARS of service and may be preferable for someone looking for lighter weight dinnerware. The lighter weight may be easier for children and elderly hands to carry and handle. This is a GREAT everyday pattern.

Do try mango-saffron jam and Imli-dates chutney
Jun 20, 2015 12:43 PM 8037 Views

Both mango saffron jam and Imli dates chutney from ITC's  kitchens of India range  are extraordinary in taste . They both come in 320 ml bottles and cost Rs 90 a piece.

One of  the best conserves I have ever used is mango saffron from Kitchens of India, though I don't use too many sweet food stuff in my diet . Even when I use it  with 100% whole wheat bread I spread a layer of  home made cream or butter and very mild film of the conserve.

I believe in saturates more than sugar . Not one to do a skimmed  milk coffee with no cream and 3  tea spoons sugar .I do  the opposite, whole cream milk .A dash of fresh cream and 2  gms sugar, ie half a tea spoon.

The date imli chutney is so thick and so rich  but quite sweet as well and my defenses go up  the moment I see the word  sugar. Again I limit the chutney to no more than a tea spoon at one go.

Kitchens of India also sell ready to heat and eat, pre- packaged foods most of  them paneer  items with a very long shelf  life of  around 3  years . Yes you heard me right, its 3 years and not 3  months .

ITC and master chefs of 5 star hotels who make  them.please tell me  .no matter what the technology goes  it making and packing such ready to eat meals like, dal bukhara, paneer  mughlai, paneer darbari.etc .how can you extend the shelf life to 3  years .Its beyond me.

ITC claims to vacuum pack them under extremely high temperatures to extend the shelf life  but than what does heat do to nutrition we all know, especially Vitamins C.

The oils  go rancid or toxic with such high heat, even a photon of  light btw is enough to start damaging the oil, you will find borges extra virgin olive oil in dark green bottles for  the same reason .

The paneer stuff is loaded with tomatoes and an ocean of oil .Maybe that extends  the shelf life . I do not know .The paneer  cubes can be counted on the fingers of  your hands, nothing more than half a dozen  or thereabouts  and don't seem fresh at all. These paneer cubes lose their softness over time .

The taste of  these foods  is too sour and just doesn't seem fresh, how can it when its not, take  mirch ka salon for example, the oil is so substantial, it will  make you pukey(nauseated).

Most of these pre-packaged foods are priced between Rs 100- 120 .and some non-vegetarian items like Chicken Chettinad even beyond that @Rs 130 .all are 285 gms net  is something I forgot to mention .

ITC feels  they can serve  3 people with these ready to eat packs, but even 2  will struggle in reality .

The verdict: Although the jams, conserves and chutneys are extra ordinary, the ready to heat and eat meals are a complete dismiss, I think they are so harmful to health ITC should recall  them .

Their delicious spicy flavor products are really awesome. Once I was alone at home, I was looking for some unique food products to order online and I found Kitchens of India online food shopping site.

I ordered "Chicken Darbari" at that time. It was my first time to taste a Chicken Darbari dish. Nothing can be said more, it's quick to prepare.

Delightful, mouthful, blissful

Kitchens of India, mango jeera chutney- A little tangy and sweet, this is an authentic preparation of raw mango slices and cumin seeds. It is a perfect chutney that compliments lunch or dinner. One might use it as well on paratha or roti as a spread. A must try for all. My friends whom I invited home for lunch, loved this chutney, so would you!

300 g bottle @ Rs 90.

This was my first stint with Kitchens of India products post I participated in the “Kitchens of India” contest organized by Indibloggers, few months ago. They acknowledged my blog entry with a gift voucher to shop from http: //shopping.kitchensofindia.com/. And I chose a yummy combo of items whose picture you are seeing above.

Kitchens of India pineapple and green pepper jam- Unlike jams of other brands which are too sweet and add to calories besides choking your throat with sweetness, this one is low on sweet content. Thin pineapple slices with its pulp and little seeds of Kerala green pepper make it a superb combo. Spread it on bread or have it with puri/paratha for a sweet and calorie-free meal.

320 g bottle @Rs 80.

Kitchens of India Papaya & Raisin Jam- This exotic ones my favorite! Had never imagined an incredible mix of papaya dices with raisins that give it a natural sweetness. This ones the best from the kitchen geniuses of “Kitchens of India.”Have this jam with meals or make your boring snacks interesting with it. I usually pop in a spoonful into my mouth after dinner. For me its a blissful sweet dish.

330 g bottle @ Rs 80.Choose more from http: //shopping.kitchensofindia.com/conserves.html

Kitchens of India masala mixes- These masala mixes not only save your time and energy to cook meals, but are a blessing for those who are bad at cooking or are on their toes balancing their work and life. Just add the masala paste to the required amount of water in a pan(as indicated on the packet) and add the paneer dices in it. No onion/tomato required, no teary eyes, no oil, no mess in the kitchen! Bring the pot to boil, add butter to the dish and lo paneer makhani is ready in no time! Being a vegetarian I gave the chicken masala pack as a gift to a friend who loves chicken. The paste contains tomato, onion, oil and other necessary spices, hence making your life so easy! And the taste is 10/10!

Serve hot with naan, rice, roti or paratha!

100 g paneer makhani packet & chicken curry masala packet @ Rs 40 only.

Dal Bukhara is richer than one can eat!
Oct 03, 2008 12:04 PM 8460 Views

I happened to buy some packs of ready meals when I was going out for a vacation to live with my non-compromising cousin. Shopping was window.google_render_ad(); done at Big Bazar and so I picked up some packs of MTR, Aashirwaad and Veetee.

Dal Makhani, being my favorite dish, I picked up one pack of the same dish by all 3 brands, namely MTR Dal Makhani, ITC Dal Bukhara and Veetee Dal Makhani. I tried the ITC Dal Bukhara the first day since I had heard so much about it. It was thick and had good consistency but had a strong taste of garlic, like it was overloaded. After eating just a half bowl, I felt like puking and my stomach felt so full. Maybe, they tried too hard to make it richer, thereby making it unsuitable for one to consume.

2nd day, I tried MTR. It was thin and ugly. I realized soon that it was a south indian’s attempt at making good north indian. well, sorry guys! You got this one terribly wrong. The packet was thrown without any consumption.

Finally, I tried Veetee Dal Makhani the third day and to my surprise, it had the right consistency, wonderful taste and amazing aroma. I cudnt have asked for more. Its microwavable pouch was a delight and easy to do.

So, folks. my advise is to buy Kitchens of India for non-veg. In North Indian, Veetee has really worked on their recipes. Its the new name in the industry and I wish them luck!
