Harris Jeyaraj rocked the whole of TamilNadu with his debut album MINNALE in 2001. He followed it up with great albums in the order 12B, Majnu, Samurai, Lesa Lesa, Saamy and now KHAKKA KHAKKA. The elite career of this 24 year old youngster in the dream industry without any flops reminds you of A.R.Rahman. Harris also reminds one of Rahman in many ways from his hairstyle to his style of working, his choice of singers and importantly his emphasis on freshness and richness. Till Saamy, Harris had created trendsetting music for his films, however none of them created an impact. For Saamy, Harris's music was ordinary and not typical, but the film was a box office phenomenon. In this background KHAKKA KHAKKA assumes great significance because the film and its audio went well with the audience. And as a matter of fact, I reckon the album as the coming of age of Harris Jeyaraj, and I am sure that many wont disagree.
Gautam's KHAKKA KHAKKA was a sincerely attempted film that sincerely portrayed the story of a sincere police officer and was sincerely supported by soul stirring music of Harris Jeyaraj. It is worth mentioning that Harris and Gautam debuted together in MINNALE, wher they created a great impression. The album had 5 songs(neglecting the repeated number), all of whom are masterpieces of the top degree.
''Uyirin Uyire'' needs no introduction or description. The song still continues to be a craze in all parts of Tamil Nadu, and there is every reason behind it to be.The song starts with a catchy hum by Suchitra and after a tiny gap rocks you with techno enhanced music. Kay Kay , a regular in Harris's albums then takes you through with more than adequate support by Harris's Rahman style composition. The highlight of the song is the delivery of classical tones by technical instuments in a flawless manner. Definetely the song of the year
Bombay Jayshree and Harris Jeyaraj always combine to give a mercurial melody. In a mood very similar to the eternal ''Vaseegara'' of Minnale, they deliver the goods yet again in ''Ondra Renda''. The music seems subtle, yet special and importantly suits the mood to a T. The thoroughly soft melody was the director's favourite and the repeated song.
''Ennai Konjum'' is a highly peppy song which was well supported in all fronts. The voices of Tippu, Timmy and Shalini Singh are very apt. The song is nearly a duet, yet not one and it is very hard to set music for those type of scenes. But Harris makes the job looks very easy and more surprisingly has done the same with regular instruments.
''Thoodu Varuma'' is another cool one delivered by Harris. This song marvellously by Febi and Sunitha is designed to suit the mood of a urban DJ night, and the work is highly appreciable. I didnt listen much to this song, as this type of songs are not my cup of tea. Neverthless it is a good number
The last is indeed reserved for the best, and my best song in this album is ''Oru Ooril''. This song marvellously rendered by the red hot Karthik is about the daunting task of eulogising a girl's beauty. However eulogising the musical beauty of Harris (behind doing the honours for the song) is a more daunting task. The classical based song has Hindustani and Western written all over it. Its unmissable hum, the delivery of english lyrics by the chorus, the fresh richness and the rich freshnessmake the song very special.
Those who found something missing in the review pat your backs. And those who understand that I hadnt breathed a word about the lyrics pat your back and your front. I didnt mention the lyrics earlier because I wanted to give the divine lyrics a special mention. For any song, lyrics are as important as the music. Harris had worked with lyricists of highest order like Vairamuthu, Vaali and Vijay but none of these combination appealled as a pair. It is in this sequence that Thamarai and Harris forge a captivating combination. I knew Thamarai as the leading lady lyrcist in Kollywood, but never thought that she was capable of penning such beautiful https://lyrics. All the lyrics are powerful and most relevant to the mood. I liked the words for ''Uyirn Uyire'', which on a deeper dwelling tells you the story before hand. The diction of Oru Ooril is the best way you can describe your dream girl. ''Ondra Renda'' lists the fantasies of a girl in a commendable manner. If ''Ennai Konjum'' is a hit number, more than half of the credits should go the lyrics that are as apt as Sidhu to oneliners. Even in a hopeless oppurtunity like ''Thoothu Varuma'', Thamarai creates an impression. I am sure that the lyricist has a good future, and together I think Harris and Thamarai can go a long way.
KHAKKA KHAKKA was a sincere effort by talented people of Kollywood. And the album is no less a product of sincerity, hardwork and talent. The album makes a great contribution to the film, and when seen in the visuals it is marvellous. But even as you hear the songs, you will turn appreciative. Gautam and Harris had rocked the whole of Tamil Cinema industry, when they made a debut together in MINNALE. In their second effort,KHAKKA KHAKKA they have proved that they are capable of producing artwork of the highest order. And we are all waiting for their Hatrick.
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
