Never travel with Shreshta Tours for Kailash Man Y
Jul 20, 2010 05:36 PM 11142 Views

After completing the tour I remembered the caution quote which is shown before TV add. “You should never try this clip as the stunts are done by expert”. Shreshta is really expert in cheating, ill treating, worst accommodation and providing minimum food.

I planned my trip Man Sarovar Kailash Yatra in the month of Mar 10 for May 10. I decided to go to yatra because one of my friends went last year and she recommended it for the beautiful landscapes. I booked my trip from Travelport and paid 15% amount as advance in March and I was told to pay remaining amount one month before travel. I paid the full amount within time and the hospitality for very good from travelport. I got my first shock one day before travel when I got my visa. I was told that  travelport is responsible only for booking and the actual travel is conducted by Shreshta. I never took objection as I said it is famous tour operator for this yatra. I used to see small advt in the paper from Shreshta travels for more than two years. Shreshta provides bags for tour and recommendation is that you use those bags as after the tour the bags are in so bad condition that you have to throw them. It is because of dust and rain combination. I was not given the bags and all my bags were in very bad shape.

I am writing in length but I can’t help out since I have to write about 15 days horror story and people should know how helpless you are once you pay the money and you are in a foreign territory where you can’t get anything for 100 kms. I am a diehard traveler and never had such terrible experience with such a reputed name.

Tour starts from Nepal. I reached Kathmandu around 4 pm. Travelport gave me voucher and told that I will be received by somebody from Shreshta with “ Shreshta Ply card”. I was not given hotel name by Travelport. I could not see anybody from Shreshta anywhere around. I was looking out for Shreshta’s board with the luggage in my both hands. You have lot of luggage as you are travelling to a country where the temperature goes to -10. After enquiring I was asked whether you are travelling with Shreshtra tracks or tours. I got confused, as I never know there is some other body called Shreshtra tracks. I said tours. He asked me to go to a bus standing nearby. Here I met one lady from Shreshta Tours and she asked me to wait in the bus. The bus started after one more hour and we reached to a very good hotel called Crown Plazza.

One person allotted room to us and then we could not see anybody from Shreshta that evening, nobody told us when we have to be ready tomorrow or where you will get your food etc. Next day was planned for half day Nepal darshan. This was shortened to only Pashupatinath temple. After lot of deliberation from everyone, two more temples were visited.

In the evening we were greeted by the owner of Shreshta Travel in the evening at around 7 pm. We were excited to hear him with lot of questions in our mind. He was quite good orator. But people were not given opportunity to ask questions. He stuck to his business speech. There was announcement from Mr. Pradhan that we have to pay for mediclaim. If it is compulsory then we should have paid it during our tour booking. Yaun is available at Rs.7 or 7.30. But Mr. Pradhan declared it that he will provide it at Rs. 8. There is no reason why at such a high cost. I was told by Travel port that pony during Parikrama is available for 650 to 700 Yuan for 3 days. Mr. Pradhan declared that it will be available around 1100 to 1200 yuan.

Those who were not carrying extra amount were in big trouble. There is no ATM available during rest of the trip. ATMs are available only till Tibet border. Better to carry more Indian money. Ample Yuan is available at Tibet border. If you bargain, you get it at 6.80 per Yuan. Be cautious during transaction at border ie keep watch and count properly.

Next day we were told to be ready by 5:30am at reception and but the bus started at 8 am. We had few halts and nobody was bothered to count if all of us are in bus. After crossing Nepal border we travelled 50 kms inside Tibet where we stayed. Here we got the first glimpse of how the rest of the trip will be. It was only room where four of us were dumped. No basin, no toilet, no bathroom inside room. For a group of 45 there was only one toilet for men and one toilet for women. During night there was no access to the toilet for 16 of us. It was major problem for ladies as it snowed at 9pm and it was too cold somewhere near -2 to -4 and you can go to toilet ……

Next day we stayed at the same place to get acclimatize to the height and whether conditions. This night nobody came to knock the door for dinner and they forgot us. After lot of fight we were served some food.

Out of 12 nights, 7 nights small amount of khichadi was served and nothing else. When the roti or puri was given during day, it was restricted to only one. Either one “fullaka” or one “puri”. Will only one small puri or fulka sufficient for any adult? Very limited food was prepared. Few people were given as they had given big tips and they were served as many rotis as they want. During 2nd day of Parikrama no breakfast was provided to me and told that it is over. This is the toughest day of the tour. You have to climb and walk 22 kms. Even for lunch on small chocolate, 2 biscuits and one real juice was given.

For such a scenic trip, no charging point was available. Everybody were having phones, cam cod, digital camera etc. Most of the places the good accommodation were available, but worst and the cheapest accommodation was provided. It was available for 200 Yuan for 5 people(means Rs.200 per person). There were no basic amenities available including bathroom & toilet. All other operators including Shresta Tracks provided good accommodation with the same cost. Toilet outside were almost open toilets where it was impossible to visit as they were stinking badly and water was not used for months together. Once you enter you start like vomating. Accommodation was always a dormitory except Kathmandu. People were put in like cattle in the room at all places. There was no place to keep our luggage in the room. Toilet in the morning was always open in -3 to -4 degrees, because the hotels chosen by them were dormitory and cheapest one.

I think treckers who regulary goes on trek would also find it very difficult to stay in such conditions.

There are lot of other stories I read where people lost their lives or survied but Shresta charged 11000/- dollar to them.
