Kaante Songs Movie Reviews

A stylish film
Dec 24, 2002 10:00 PM 2858 Views

PEOPLE SINCE I ALREADY HAD WRITTEN A REVIEW ON KAANTE EARLIER, I AM POSTING ANOTHER REVIEW ON THE FILM IN THE MUSIC CATEGORY.

Since the film has already released after all the hooplah and everything - I guess it deserves another review from me.

To begin with am I glad that I haven’t seen the original inspiration of the film - Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs made sometime in the 80s. Cause once you have seen the original the copy is well, a copy.

Kaante is the story of six guys who are Indian and live in the US of A. All of them have some kind of criminal record and are bugged by the police every now and then. On one such pick-up, they decide that they are going to teach the Pandus (cops) a lesson by robbing the bank in which they have their personal accounts.

The plan is put into action but not before delving into each one’s personal affairs. So they all have problems in their lives - hey, who doesn’t.

They loot the bank and are successful until they step out and a slow climax builds up to the interval. This by far is my favourite scene in the film - one really does not know what to expect at the other end of the interval.

The most obvious would be to expect cops. And there they are. These guys pull out guns, shoot a few rounds and since the American cops have such bad aims, they all survive - except for Lucky Ali who gets shot in the shoulder.

Back at their meeting joint, they come to the conclusion that there is a rat amongst them who was responsible to leak the information to the cops. But the cop - who Sanjay Dutt has kidnapped - reveals that there isn’t an informant but an undercover cop. Who is the cop and what happens to these guys is the climax of the film.

Although I am highly tempted - I won’t tell you. You must watch it for yourself.

The best thing about the film is not the story or the content but the stylization of the film. WHich begins with the styling of each actor to camera shots to movements to locations to bikes and cars. Everything under the sun.

Since the film is shot by a foreign crew you expect something different and that is exactly what you get. A stylish film.

Good reinvention!!

Kewl!! This is how you can describe this album . I am very impressed by the kind of growth in terms of music sense and anand raj anand has started conforming the auxilliaries which are sidelined by the conventional musical instruments and used by only certain bold music composers. By saying the auxilliaries , I mean to say the computer softwares which have a major part to play in this album. If you have yourself hooked on to this music closely you would end up discovering tunes played by certain instruments which are not conventional .

Starting with the title ''rama re'' its definitely got hold on the music markets by virtue of the resplendent nimbus it creates in mind of city-slickers.It construes purely to the cause of it's composition. The introductory part of the song is adored by many techno-auxilliary harmonised together to create that acoustic effect .good use of choir is also put effectively.voices rendering this song are put forth by the composer himself laong with shaan, zubin and sudesh bhonsle.

My favorite song and also one of the aces in the album is '' yaar mangyasi'' . sonu who is currently the greatest asset of indian music industry doesn't leave any error of margin to render the ''poignant'' , ''hapless'' effect the song needed to create . good immersion of ''sarangi'' amidst the second interlude in this song . one main thing about this song is the kind of start it takes using the bass guitar and sonu's rock scaling voice backed by a techno instrument which goes on till the song ends .also that the rest between the two ''antras'' of the song is filled with ecstatic music by using beats of tabla and subsequent initiation of the song is very emphasizing and immediate. Innate lyrics give this song a treatment of ''material moksha'' .

Two great item numbers''maahi ve'' and ''ishq samundar'' are also victorious to match with the circumstances they are shot in. sunkhwindar who is a maven as far as singing is concerned is joined along with ''richa sharma'' this time to educe the audience with her rapturing voice. The ''antra'' is as good as the ''mukhda'' .pure show of dexterity by richa and sukhwindara in the latter part of the song.

''ishq samundara'' is sung by the composer himself and sunidhi who is not seen nowadays after her marriage with a video director''bobby khan'',is seen giving her moon-reaching voice beautified by anand raj's https://lyrics.

The album is full of attractions ,this one housing the one sung and composed by ''lucky ali''who wasn't lucky in his earlier movie ''sur''. Sure does he reminds us that he's not lost and is still capable of producing tunes and orchestra that match the highest standard by the song ''maut''. This song uses ''guitar'' during the introduction to produce a prolific sound which can be mostly heard in arabic cult or just to quote an instance ..u can hear the same kind of usage in saathiya's song ''mera yaar mila de'' sung by A.R.Rehman. Superior deftness in lucky ali's voice specially when uttering the words '' dil mein chain nahin.. '' .

Other songs sung by sanu ''dil kya kare '' etc are also good .overall an good reinvention of music by anand raj anand who doesn't fail this time to garner praise from the music lovers.

This album isn't worth a miss unless you don’t care !!!

MUSIC REVIEW

'' KAANTE''………A TOUCH OF GLOSS

Its celebration time for music lovers. Just get ready for sixty six minutes of non-stop fantastically funky music freaking out with

the twelve tracks of different moods and colours.

''Kaante'' is the latest flick captained by the self-proclaimed tech savvy director Sanjay Gupta , who , unfortunately doesnt have a hit to his credit. Here , as luck would have it, he is equipped

with an enviable casting coup roping in the current stalwarts of mumbai fantasy world. Secondly, the musical score by Anand Raj Anand,( catering to lyrics too) Vishal , Shekhar and Lucky Ali has already hit the bulls eye.

To be fair enough , the performance deliberately rides the current wave of fast , yuppy and funky music. It is a perfect specimen of listeners

paradise. Going deep down, the music show is all about money , more money , greed , avarice and lethal desires. It is all about determination, detachments , defection and dejection. The richness in symbolizing the above traits has lifted the face value of the movie to the skies.

The curtains are up with 'Ishq Samander'' , a foot tapping breezy knock expertly performed by Sunidhi Chouhan ---- strictly sticking to her nasal chord . She is ably assisted by high pitched specialist Sukhwinder singh. ''Baby Baby'' the other track sung by the lady , is a perfect paradigm of a typical channel V music. You just love / hate / fake /

rebuke / enjoy it as long as it lasts.

Touchwood , ''Rama Re'' reigns supreme over all the tracks. The baseline is a straight take-off from Nadeem Shravans archives . Flashing up in three parts , it is indeed a radiant composition made up of lush orchestrals , metallic beats and some excellent singing by Shaan , Zubin , Anand Raj Anand and Sudesh Bhonsle. ''Soch na Tha'' an off-shoot is the most effective score performed with utmost

sincerity by Shaan and Zubin . The use of the Spanish guitar and matchless beats make it a masterpiece.

''Maahi Re'' , the no. by Sukhwinder and Richa Sharma has a thumping Punjabi punch , quite pleasing and heart rendering.

''Chod na re'' (popping up twice ) , devoid of melody , is an orgy of prose and racy beats . A Vishal's special , strictly played to the galleries , could be a chartbuster if the film works.

''Dil Kya Kare'' ( a double treat) is a suave and silky track adequately revdered by Sanu and Kavita .

''Yaar Maagiyasi'' is the only odd man out of the zingy score. Sonu Nigam as a matter of habit , is outstanding. This multi linguial product reminds us back to the era of great Mohd. Rafi. Though the interludes by the lady are inspired by AR Rehman archives.

Now some lowdowns and glitches. 'Maut'' an out and out Lucky Ali''s baby is a black spot in the album. The composer who is normally soft in voice and guitar has completely missed the bus, messing up

the track. An absolute no! no! there is no symmetry between singing and the music. Stictly avoidable.

Again, Sunidhi Chouhan who has already proved her mettle with her intoxicating high pitched vocal chord has to come out of her shell else she will have no option but to average out with the likes of Jaspinder Narula and Poornima.

Enjoy!
