Can we use this adjective for a music album?

Thriller themes are having poor music. Assigning two music directors on a sinking project is worst. Unfortunately, the music directors are not trying anything new to make their music more interesting. They have been churning the same old and stale melodies, the voices seem a bit too much for listeners and originality is a new word to most of them. Can’t Bollywood music be better? If the trend continues, sales will be more pathetic than it is at the moment. No it’s not the music downloads but the quality itself is horrible. And they call themselves music directors. It’s a pity to see that even in 2005, the good quality is short in supply.

‘Jurm’ - two music directors were signed for this Vikram Bhatt’s thriller. You see, when two music directors ‘work’ on a movie, the good thing is that we have a variety of tracks but the bad thing is that both of them will only use half of their brain usual capacity to compose. Interestingly, they chose a range of vocalists. The concept for this Bobby Deol-Lara Dutta thriller is pretty much simple: a mix of dance numbers, slow and romantic tracks.

Anu Malik’s Songs; Lyrics by Rahat Indori

Yes nothing has changed. ‘Meri Chahaton Ka Samundar To Dekho’ is the same song we have been hearing from Anu Malik since 10 years. The guitar accompaniment with the repetitive beats does not add anything new to this rather passable tune. Even with the interludes where a lot of harmonica, saxophone and chorus have been used, they do not make it catchy enough. Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik provide the vocals. A sad version called ‘Main Yahan Tu Kahan’ is also included. The piano start is much nicer but since the master tune is average, the sad tune can’t be any better.

‘Dil Dil’ has quite an impressing start with some slow piano notes and Shreya Ghoshal’s voice. However the mukhda is a bit long and the last line of the mukhda has become too repetitive in Anu’s songs now. It would have been a better song if there was no chorus. Udit Narayan’s fresh vocals are a welcoming change. The only good thing is the pleasant antra. I would have simplified the mukdha and try to make most of this feel-good tune.

Anand Raaj Anand’s Songs; Lyrics by Dev Kohli

Adnan Sami tries hard, very hard with ‘Nazrein Teri Nazrein’. The guitar openings and interludes are quite pleasant but when you hear the words ‘Ke Dil Deewaana Ho Gaya’, you need to think again on the quality of the https://lyrics. Poor wordings and a familiar tune spoil the whole song. The next track is a dance number rendered by Kunal Ganjawala. ‘Aksar Ye Hota Hai Pyar Mein’ is tedious and monotonous. How did the choreographer worked on this song?

Another punishment is ‘O Sanam O Sanam’. Poor Udit Narayan and Pamela Jain! ‘Tum Saath Hote Agar’ shows how Dev Kohli is writing unimpressive poetry. Can’t Udit say no to these songs? Hasn’t he made enough money? KK and Gayatri Iyer come to add another boring number to this already stinking album. ‘Rabba Rabba’ is a poor song or a reincarnation of old Anand Raaj Anand songs, which should be included in C-Grade movies. Supposedly having a thriller background and chorus, this heavily orchestrated piece tries to borrow some notes from Bhoot’s music.

What has been said is too much on this album. Anand Raaj Anand‘s songs don’t even have a body, the singers sing when they want in the songs and the lyrics are an insult to what Dev Kohli has been writing. I would better put it this way; an outdated album which should have been released back when Avinash Wadhawan started his career. Listen to only ‘Dil Dil’. Both music directors gave Bobby Deol good songs in the past. The fact is that Bobby Deol’s movies have been flopping and they don’t want to risk their melodies on him. Even four people are credited to have worked on this album, it really seems that only Anu Malik worked a bit. Avoid listening and don’t buy!
