Jawaharlal Nehru National Park is located in Gumla Colony in Bokaro. I had visited this park once with my family and friends when we made a single day trip to Bokaro from Dhanbad.
It is the biggest zoological park in Jharkhand and a must visit place in Bokaro.
Myself, being a frequent visitor to Alipore Zoo since boyhood, has a habit to compare any other Zoo with Alipore, but I should not compare this way as it is not justified. The Jawaharlal Nehru National Park in Bokaro is also a popular biological park which was established in the year 1989. So, it is only 25+ years old.
First, I like green surrounding and freshness of this place which is not easily available in Kolkata. The air is so fresh and pollution free that I can spend hours in this park.
There are decent collections of animals and birds in the zoo. White tigers and the calves are one of main attractions and they are really aristocrat in their style. Honestly speaking, I did not like the way animals are kept there, there is lack of maintenance by the authority and this part of the zoo is not at all healthy and hygienic. People coming to the zoo are also behaving odd and irritating the tigers unnecessarily.
I did not like the behavior of some decent looking men urinating in the park, it is utter nonsense attitude from them. The authority should be strict about such issues, else the the natural beauty of this place will go in vain gradually.
There is an artificial lake in side the zoo with boating facility. We did enjoy the boating there.
If you visit Bokaro, just take your time to visit this place. You can easily reach this place. No need to find out for any accommodation near by as it is not a place to stay over night. If you have 2 hours in hand, you are good to go! It is a good week end choice for the local people to spend an afternoon with the kids and family.
I recommend this place.
