JAKOI, AN RESTAURANT OUT TO CHEAT
Aug 21, 2015 02:24 PM 2350 Views

I am an assamese so definitely have tasted authentic assamese cuisine.

"Jakoi" was a sheer disappointment. I was surprised that a restaurant located in a esteemed place like "Assam Bhawan" can try to cheat people. In the menu, it is written that "Joha rice" is served in the thalis, they serve and that in a way may justify the absurdly exorbitant.

to my surprise, the rice that was served was not "JOha" at all. Joha rice is a native assamese speciality which is well known for its fragrant aroma. when I confronted the lady at the desk(highly ill-mannered)she told me that it is not possible for them to serve joha rice and was very rude and called us "bad customers" to have complained about it.

my only point is why does the menu mention "joha rice" when you are actually serving something else? is"nt it an attempt to fool unsuspecting customers?. our woes did not end there, we had ordered "koloh chicken and koloh rice" which when served we realized was not only under cooked but smelly".

we were surprised that when we complained about it, the lady(who claimed that she is not the manager but a superior being) said this is how assamese eats chicken. I was shocked beyond words, being an assamese myself. had it been bambooshoot chicken I would have understood the smell, but for a chicken curry cooked in an open vessel, it is highly unacceptable.

more than the food, the attitude of the management(the lady claimed that she is superior to manager) appalled us. Not only she was rude but threatening me with police.

Too ambitious- average food

If you are fond of Traditional food and living in Delhi- then Jakoi restaurant- situated at Assam Bhawan- Chanakyapuri may be your great escape. It is actually another outlet of the famous Paradise restaurant chain in Assam- owned by the same family.

Jakoi is farely new in Delhi and it has some benchmark dishes served in the Assamese traditional way and plates.

The whole idea is to make you homesick and give you the feeling that you are having a delicious Assamese meal. But nevertheless, you might actually wonder- if it is up to the hype. I have been to the Paradise restaurant at Guwahati and it has good Assamese cuisine. But seriously, Jakoi fails to live up to that expectation- if you are a real Assamese Food Fan, you would agree with me.

The Parampara Assamese Thaali comes with lots of sabzis and items like the duck meat, fish, chicken and also the rare khar.

But it has more of Bengali flavors than that of Assamese ones. Besides, the prices are quoted really ambitiously. I mean Rs. 400 for a Parampara Thaali? The owners have gone over-confident here. I hope, they will introduce better food and more practical pricing in future.

Mind blowing!

I have been very fond of trying out new delicacies. Jakoi gave me a really good delicacy to add up to my list. I just discovered this place by word of mouth of some one. Its an assamese restraunt. The people working there are also mostly people from east india.

So I ordered this pigeon curry which I spotted in the menu and wanted to really try out. I must say ive never had any meat as good as that.

The flavour of the pigeon meat is just crazy. The meat was cooked really well it was very soft and you could get the flavours of all the wast indian spices that were used. The place is very nice. Not that ambient but a nice place to visit if your up to try some thing new. The pigeon curry went well with naans. There were also many other dishes that I didnt get the chance to try as I was alone. But I will go there again for sure.
