Statements from the Maverick
"Jesus was all right, but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me” The church reacted badly at him and call him mad. Then he told
“Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I'm liable to be put away as insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it”
His concept about God was a bit strange “I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It's just that the translations have gone wrong.”
That Was John Lennon – the Liver Pool Boy was an anchor on which Bealtes was built. Majority of the people almost believed that he will be murdered and that happened on 8th December, 1980 at New York when he was shot dead at the age of 40.
Imagine -
Imagine is a song in the Album “Imagine” (1971) featuring Lennon and his second wife Yoko Ono.The rolling stone magazine rate this as the third best song in the world.According to John “This is an anti religious, anti nationalistic, anti conventional, anti capitalist song”
The lyrics were thought to be inspired by Lennon's hopes for a more peaceful world, though their origins are not known for certain. But the song's refrain may have been partly inspired by Yoko Ono’s poetry, in reaction to her childhood in Japan during World War II. (Might be for the same reason she is also featuring in the album)
Imagineis a song that has even got almost an equal status of national anthem in several countries and that itself shows the significance of the song.
In the album (which is available in You Tube) – the scenes are very beautifully directed where in John and Yoko going to their house from outside (where the whether is cold) – John singing and playing piano and Yoko open all curtains and light coming inside the home!
Critcism
Journalist and broadcaster Robert Elms said "Imagine" was written by a "multi-millionaire with one temperature-controlled room in his Manhattan mansion just to store his fur coats.
Elvis Costello also commented satirically on the song in "The Other Side of Summer", wherein he asks the question, "Was it a millionaire who said 'Imagine no possessions'?"
Johns Reaction (courtesy Play Boy Magazine)
Lennon, during an interview with Playboy magazine, was criticized on a similar note for his wealth, and defended himself by pointing out how difficult it is to leave a materialist world behind once you are caught up in it, comparing this to leaving the Beatles:
PLAYBOY: "Why does anyone need $150,000,000? Couldn't you be perfectly content with $100,000,000? Or $1,000,000?"
LENNON: "What would you suggest I do? Give everything away and walk the streets? The Buddhist says, 'Get rid of the possessions of the mind.' Walking away from all the money would not accomplish that. It's like the Beatles. I couldn't walk away from the Beatles. That's one possession that's still tagging along, right? If I walk away from one house or 400 houses, I'm not gonna escape it."
That was John and Imagine for you. Whether you like or hate John and Beatles, I appeal all of you to listen to this song! You wont regret!
