CET (engg) guide
Jul 07, 2005 09:27 AM 7255 Views

The CET for engineering has been 'properly' introduced from 2005. The paper consists of 50 questions each in Physics and Chemistry( 1 mark each) and supposed to be finished in 90 minutes.

There is no negative marking, and it will mostly not be introduced in the future. I will deal with the thing, subject wise

CHEMISTRY

Between physics and chem, solve chemistry first. This is absolutely essential to get a good momentum going. If you start physics first and the first few problems turn out to be lengthy or tough, you will panic. So, go for chemistry first and finish it in 30 minutes. 25 minutes for the problems and 5 for thoery( memory testing questions) This will leave u with a comfortable 60 minutes for Physics.

PHYSICS

Dont solve physics in the numerical sequence. No need to start with Q1 then...Q2 and so on. Solve all the theory questions first. How to identify theory questions? Simple. In whichever question you dont see numbers is mostly a theory questions, testing your memory or concepts, not ur calculation speed. Go for those questions. Finish them in 15 minutes. The remaining questions you can easily solve in 30 minutes. Note, - if you begin with such questions before chemistry, u will take more time, because you will have those early paper nerves.

Use remaining 15 minutes to attempt the tough questions which u might have left for later.

MATHS

If you have worked enough for 12th and if you are capable of getting 80 and above in 12th maths, this should be a cakewalk for you. If you have seriously prepared for IIT, then this will be a joke.

Time is not a problem here. Accuracy is. To get started, solve the questions on Logic first. Solve the graphical LPP problems last(when u have enough time) Check your answers again*. You should have finished solving all problems 1 hour before the bell. Dont mark all the answers in the answersheet now. Mark only those questions about which you are 110% confident. Remaining u check again.

CHECKING ANSWERS

One thing you must know, you are supposed to mark the answers on the answer sheet with a PEN. So, once marked, you cannot change it. So there is no point in checking an answer which you have already marked, forget about it. Also, dont mark the answer in the answer sheet immediately after u have solved it. The repeated to and fro from question paper to answer sheet wastes time.

Better tactic is to take a pencil and solve the entire question paper by marking the answers on the question paper itself( by ticking) Start marking the proper answers on answer sheet 30 minutes before the final bell. THIS IS REGARDLESS OF WETHER U HAVE FINISHED UR PAPER. If you havent, first mark all the answers u have solved and then go for remaiing ones. DONT LEAVE MARKING TO THE END!

While marking the answer, you can again think about ur answer in the few moments between seeing the tick mark u made on the question book and making the mark on the answer paper.

Thats all I can remember for now. Practice Navneet 21 sets for CET. Solve 15 papers and try to score above 180/200 each time. If you get above 190 in actual CET, you are sure of UDCT chemical and you will easily get VJTI except maybe VJTI- electronics and VJTI computer science. SP you will get anything.

I am myself in top 100 in state and I have got nice software branch in VJTI.

Add extra chips on shoulder and bank accounts

The CET (Common Entrance Test) is the entrance test for the two-year full-time Master of Management Studies (MMS)/ Master of Business Administration (MBA) programmes conducted by more than 75 institutes affiliated to nine Universities in the state of Maharashtra (India) ONLY.

CET scores are NOT valid anywhere else.

About the test

The CET is of 2 and 1/2 hrs duration with about 200 questions spread over different areas, viz. Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, Problem Solving and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, and Visual Reasoning.

The test is followed immediately by Group Discussion & Personal Interview. (17 marks each)

After the written test and GD/PI , a merit ranking of the candidates based on their performance is put up. Higher your rank better are you chances to get admission in Creme de la Creme institute otherwise something like Babasaheb Gawde Institute is willing to take you in. :)))

Successful preparation for CET

The written test is your acid test. If you dont score well in these, No matter how well you do in Group Discussion/Personal Interview (GD/PI) your score cannot soar high.

200 Marks for written test. Now how do you get these???

Elementary question My Dear watson!!!

All you need to do is study.

Go back to your 10th and High School Maths. Think that its not CET but your Boards. Study day and night if you have forgotten what was taught in school.

There are a lot of study materials available which will gear you up for taking the test. Also a lot of previous years question papers are available which you can practice. Get it all and start preparing.

Mock CET

Before the actual test, a lot of institutes offer Mock CET which is held on the same principles as the CET. There are many CET aspirants taking the test and by the end of it, they give you a score and a ranking. It will show you where you stand and will give you an idea of how much more preparation needs to be put in.

Dont forget to take as many mock tests as possible

There are some people (brainy types) who will do really well in the written test but will goof up in the Group Discussion and Interview. Somehow they will become tongue tied and stare at other participants as if they were aliens playing football.

For them, its very essential to be more outward and expressive. Since these qualities are not achieved overnight, they need to give a lot of dummy interviews and enter group discussions. There are many institutes which give you a practice for the same.

Alternatively, a course in Personality development and Public speaking can help too.

Remember, the written test is important but at the same time GD/PI cannot be overlooked.

You have to be a Champion at BOTH.

If you can Master Both the Games, then only you are worth being admitted into an MBA program and worth getting the extra chip on your shoulder once you acquire the title. And worth throwing you weight around in the office and worth getting that loads of chips stacked in your bank accounts and worth .... whatever...

Hey I am not biased against MBAs. In any case who cares!!!
