Rajadhani House boat - memorable experience
Dec 23, 2015 11:02 AM6922 Views

We had experience a wonderful day with Rajadhani house boat,

We visited Komarakom on last day of our kerala trip, had a pleasant day on the boat in water. The boat guys are so friendly and the food cook by them was awesome. We had a roti's and naan all the days except the houseboat. He really made a awesome homemade food which was so tasty and nice.

Had a good experience with candle light dinner in the night.

Only thing we had issue is the agent MY HAPPY JOURNEY promissed to give wedding cake and flower decoration which was not happened due to miss communication between MHJ & Houseboat, which makes me feed bad.

Apart from that everything was cool and pleasent.

I recomend the people who are looking for privacy they should visit the houseboat once atleast with wife or family with whom you want to spend time

Good Experience in Amrutham Houseboat
May 07, 2014 04:23 PM16142 Views

Had a good time cruising with Amrutham Houseboats. Special mention to ambience & food preparations. The crew was polite & wonderful in nature. Food served was delicious.

Guys preparing to cruise pls ensure TV facility with channels (sometimes you may just end up with handful of CDs). Also the 'Upper deck' is not worth spending on.

Overall, a wonderful backwater experience. Cruise for a beautiful evening with peace & have some real tasty food.

Bad Experience at Kumrakaom
Feb 27, 2014 04:32 PM16952 Views

Went to kumrakaom in february 2008 along with my  wife.one night stay on boathouse was part of our tour package.

Before entering the houseboat the car driver took us to the tour agent:Kerala Tours and Travels who took all the money for further trip.after that we boarded the houseboat whose name I don't remember now.they started the houseboat and for 1-2 hours the boat travelled through backwaters and then took a halt in the evening at a secluded place.

In the first place this was a scary experience with nobody around.we felt insecure.to our respite after 1 hour another boat landed nearby with a family on board.

then came the poor quality dinner.the houseboat was poorly lit in the evening.there were mosquitoes all around jumping on our food.air conditioners ran for a short time.there was no privacy anybody can disturb  you.place was smelly and stinking.

We almost spent a sleepless night.but the worst was to come in the morning.at 5 o' clock  when they told us that houseboat will not take us to the original  place in kumrakaom from where we started in the afternoon.they gave an excuse that there were fishing nets in the backwaters so houseboats can't cross them  instead a small dingy will take us back to the road.they charged 100 rupees for that dingy.travelling in dingy amidst deep backwaters was a frightening experience.finally the dingy guy took us to other side of the place from where our taxiwala took us for further trip. what I feel strongly is that this is a way of cheating customers by saving petrol cost of running a houseboat.after this houseboat stay we took a sigh of relief and vowed never to visit that place again.

I think it is better to visit this place with a group rather than as a couple.

Rajahamsam houseboat - a memorable experience
Feb 20, 2014 03:06 PM16995 Views

On our last visit to Kerala, my wife and I planned to cruise through Kumarakom for 3 days.  The houseboat provider we picked was Rajahamsam. As excited as we were, the service was worth it. The houseboat was enormous and bigger than any we saw on our way. It had a really beautiful interior. There were 2 bedrooms, both well furnished and maintained professionally.

During our stay, we were surprised by the facilities inside the boat including their amazing kitchen. It was all well furnished and maintained, the crew included a cook and a helper. They cooked some really delicious fish, we really enjoyed throughout the stay. The best thing about Rajahamsam was that we never felt a sense of insecurity throughout the time we boarded it. The splendor of the giant boat added a sense of royalty to our cruise.

The experience was worth it and we prefer the same boat the next time we visit Kerala.

Great Kumarakom Cruise in Amrutham Houseboats
Apr 13, 2012 03:58 PM10716 Views

We 12 members from Cognizant Chennai visited Kumarakom on Feb 12, 2012. In fact we came there to attend a friend’s marriage. Since we arrived prior to 1 day, we planned to take a Houseboat at Kumarakom. After a long search and comparison of many Houseboats, we decided to opt “Amrutham Houseboat” from Amrutham Holidays. We were welcomed at their office and at 12:00 pm, check-in to the boat.

Our Houseboat was a 3 Bedroom with a Deck over the top. All the Rooms were really spacious and Luxurious like a 4 star Hotel. Bathrooms were really hygienic and well maintained. Food in the Cruise was really awesome. Thanks to our chef- Raju Anna who made an awesome Kerala Fish Curry for Lunch. We covered many good parts of Kumarakom backwaters as “Bird Sanctuary, Sands of Midnight, Man Made Island, ThannirMukkom Bund, Muhamma, R block of Alleppey, etc”.

I must write an essay about the beauty of Kumarakom Backwaters. Also had a walk over the village and mingled with great people in Kerala. Evening view of the Lake was simply astonishing. After the halt at 6:30 PM, we engaged in many games. Since we opted Night Time A/c Option, they started A/c after Dinner at 8 pm. I never had such a good sleep. When we woke up, boat was in Cruise and after the Breakfast at 9:00 AM, we started to our destination with great memories.

Once again thanks to the team who offered the most memorable time in our life..

Kumarakom Houseboat Experience..
Oct 08, 2011 03:23 PM10815 Views

Yes, Kumarakom is the best place to enjoy kerala Backwater life.

I am from Hyderbad and visited Kerala in Sep 2011 for my honeymoon.

We visited Munnar(2 days), Thekkady(1 day), Kumarakom(Houseboat), Athirappally Waterfalla & Cochin(1 day) during this period.

One of my friend suggested'Amrutham Holidays' for Kerala Honeymoon package and they arranged it in an effiecient way in low cost.

We have travelled in Amrutham Houseboats at Kumarakom and that was the most memorable day in my life.We really enjoyed Kerala Backwater life from 12:00 noon to next day morning 9am.

Thanks to Amrutham Houseboats and Holidays.

Awesome Houseboat Experience with Iris Holidays
May 24, 2011 09:59 PM7035 Views

If you are thinking about getting a houseboat in Kerala, then we would  certainly recommend services of Iris Holidays. We saw lot of houseboats in alleppey and  one  we stayed was the best we saw by far(and we saw hundreds). Some were very  tired-looking and outdated.

We opted for a two-nights stay, and  it was the highlight of our whole trip. The boat was only six months old  (Feb 11), so had modern amenities, but was built in the traditional  Keralan style, which added to its charm. It has two bedrooms – one twin  and one double each with their own en suite bathroom and must-needed  mosquito net. The only slight disadvantage was there was no air-con, but  there was a fan above the bed.

On the roof of the boat was an  open sundeck with two chairs and a covered chill out bed in the shade,  something we noticed was quite unique(there was only one other boat we  saw like this).

We had three members of staff to look after us, a  driver, a chef and a helper and they really couldn’t do enough for us,  from bringing us drinks to making us fishing rods out of bamboo!

We  wasn’t expecting too much from the food but Prince the chef was the  most amazing cook and served us Thali-style dishes on a banana leaf. We  also picked up some prawns from a hut on the river backwaters he cooked  for us. If you like Indian food and seafood you will be in heaven.

If you want to save a bit of money, take your own beer with you and they  will store it in the ice box. If you get it from the hut on the  backwaters you’ll end up paying double, but its still only 100RPS per  bottle. Thanks Iris Holidays for a wonderful holiday and a houseboat experience

KUMARAKOM better then ALLEPEY
Dec 02, 2010 06:58 PM7359 Views

Backwaters....... Canals.......... better experience than allepey............Don't go to Allepey as there are are many cheat agents who will sell at double price than kumarakom. Kumarakom. Good 2 Bedroom houseboat with AC available between 8 to 10K.

Allepey:- The agents take their share and prices go between 11K to 17K for a good house boat.....

Nov-2010

Scenic experience is good in Kumarakom......... You may also check backwater resorts in Kumarakom which are much better than any in Allepey.

You can visit Katha Kali show in Kumarakom for Rs 200 per head. You can take  snaps with the performers.

You can visit inner canals of kumarakom with a small motorboat which charges Rs 350 per hour for entire family.

Rajahamsam house boat - No good service
Nov 05, 2010 10:19 PM8259 Views

We plan for a yearly trip to kumarakom for stay in the houseboats. In the past our experience has been very good and this made us repeat our visits. This year I booked the Rajahamsam house boat seeing their website and also a person named Rejji was following up with us and assured us of very good service and even promising to exceed our expectations when mentioned about our past good experiences. We paid the advance on the net and landed at kumarakom. The place where they had parked the houseboat was very very hard to reach. The roads were bad and narrow and last 500m had almost no access. With great difficulty we reached the house boat. The moment we stepped in Rejji demanded that we pay the entire amount agreed upon immediately only then the house boat will move.

This was the first shock since in our previous trips we always paid the balance at check out time. He stalled the house boat and refused to move without payment. Having no choice in the last minute, we obliged still skeptical why he was demanding like this. He then left the houseboat and left us with boat navigator and cook. Finally the house boat started. It was soon time for lunch. We were 4 people but it seems that Rejji bought vegs, fish and other stuff enough only for 2 people. The helpless cook and boat driver informed that they cook only what Rejji buys them and its often insufficient.

They didn't have anything in the kitchen even for emergency or if the guests request something to be made as per their choice. We adjusted all this since we wanted to enjoy our holiday. In the evening when the boat is parked there was no light, it is lit with zero watts lights here and there and thats hardly sufficient. The house boat had 2 AC bedrooms, where they mentioned that AC would run from 9pm -6am. They switched on the AC at 9 pm. This offered respite from the mosquitoes and insects outside. But 10pm they switched it off. Since its sultry because of humidity we woke up and went to the kitchen to ask them to switch on the AC. They did it. But again by 11pm they switched it off. We were too tired to keep waking up from sleep and walking to them also the cook and the helper was no where to be seen.

So whole night we had to spend without AC.

This boat is run by the manager who seems very money minded and doesn't keep up his word. They make you pay for AC rooms and want to save the cost by switching off the AC. Don't want to give proper and adequate food to the guests.Just stay away from this houseboat. There are better houseboats with more warm owners who welcome their guests and provide better services.

MY WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE ON THE KUMARAKOM HOUSEBOAT
Jul 09, 2009 10:39 PM10564 Views

I want to tell you all that me and my wife have had wonderful memories on the numerous trips that we have experienced on the houseboat owned by Kumarakom Lake Resort Pvt Ltd. The houseboat is said to be gold star class and ISO certified which is very true to the facilities offered.

Bedrooms are large and spacious with 24 hrs air-conditioning, intercom facility, SONY TV and home theatre, sprinkle fresh hot water in the bathrooms. A personalised chef who will cater to the food of your choice. The dining hall is air-conditioned and glassed which allows you to see the outside world and also protect you from any insects, and allow you to enjoy the sumptuous food on the backwaters.

There is also an option to avail the free swimming pool and recreation facilities/ gym at the Kumarakom lake resort. It’s really amazing and I trust that those of you who have had a bad time to really go back and those who have never been here to plan your next holiday on this houseboat. You can mail me if you need more details.

Worst house boat services
Apr 17, 2009 11:50 AM8962 Views

In Kumarrakom we had a very bad experience and are very unhappy with the kind of arrangements done by you. Pls note the following points that were way below our expectations and not as per what had been confirmed by you.

  1. Firstly the 4 bedroom boat that was given to us was not the same as shown in the picture on your site. We had done the booking through you based on the pictures shown on your site'stmaryshouseboat'. The houseboat provide to us was dirty and not upto the standard promised at all.

  2. Secondly 4 bedrooms with A/c was a completely wrong statement. There was no A/c in any of the bedrooms through out the day and even at night there was a/c only for one night from 12 midnight to 6 am. The 2nd night we were all awake full night as there was absolutely NO A/c and we were harassed by mosquitoes in the excessive hot weather. Therefore A/c in 4 bedroom was a wrong statement.

  3. Forget the A/c there was not even proper lighting in the houseboat in the evenings and night. All bulbs had zero voltage and the houseboat became dark and unlit in the evenings.

  4. In the evenings the house boat became full of mosquitoes, lizards and different type of other insects and the insects were in our food when we were having dinner. There was no arrangement inplace to avoid the mosquitoes and lizards which we faced for 2 nights.

  5. One of the bedrooms had a distinct smell of sewage in it and that bedroom could not be used at all due to the same.

  6. The toilets were unhygenic and dirty and had a bad odour and the same applied to all bedrooms as well.

  7. The water in all the bathrooms and basins and toilets had a dirty smell of sewage which was impossible to use or have a bath or even wash hands.

  8. The moment we arrived at the houseboat Mr. Jaymon insisted that we pay him the balance in cash as against the confirmation that cheque payment will also be accepted. Maybe he knew that he had cheated us therefore he wanted only cash payment.

  9. Positively the electricity was stolen or else why would the boat be stationed at a secluded place far away from other boats which were linedup together for stopping at night. I suppose looking at the condition this boat was for only day trips

We are extremely annoyed and disappointed for the inconvenience that we faced and our holiday was completely ruined. Who would be responsible if our children had fallen sick.

I have put these details on all the holiday sites so that others who want to book thru stmarys houseboat-Kumarrakom know, how we were cheated and shall never recommend to either family or friends.

Due to the amenities not provided to us as promised for 2 days we should be given a refund of the amount taken by Mr. Jayman as he has not provided us even half of the services and facilities that were confirmed and promised.

After writing to the concerned person Mr. Jaymon there has been absolutely no response from him or anyone else nor an apology for the same.

Run away from it
Oct 17, 2008 05:40 PM8571 Views

This has got to be one of the worst properties I have ever stayed in and I have visited over 10 states, and around 25 hotels in the last 1 year. Once on-board forget all your privacy, they have the right to barge into your room anytime they feel like, food is pathetic and the entire boat stinks of fish. When I complained about the smell, all they said was that they had used the boat to transport fish on the way back.

In the night some guys in a canoe (a small boat used by the locals there) tried to board the boat, I saw them and tried to wake the staff, I am not sure if they were really asleep or were hand in glove with the intruders or plain drunk, they simply refused to respond, finally I created enough commotion and the intruders fled. I made them call up their manager and complained to him, he said and I quote “When you are on our boat, your life and properties are not our responsibility, you have to take care of yourself”.

I am not sure if this is the case with all houseboats there, but please avoid Grandeur group, even if you have already booked the houseboat cancel it, and never board it with your family. There are loads of other houseboats available at a lower cost and better facilities, kindly enquire about them.
