I had planned a trip to Mahableshwar about a month ago and made the booking for hotels online on goibibo.com.
The hotel that we picked was Preeti Sangam. When we reached Mahableshwar by bus and got down at the bus stand, the Taxi drivers provided us with the direction to reach the hotel.
After a long walking into the market and asking for directions from the localites, we finally reached the venue. This was at about 9 AM in the morning. There wasn't anyone at the reception and we waiting a good 15 to 20 minutes for someone to attend us.
When the person in charge arrived, we enquired about our booking and requested a checkin. The person shocked us by telling that we had no reservations, although we had already made the payment online. So, we displayed to him the printed coopy of our confirmed reservations. It was then he said that they have a sister hotel named Sangam Executive, which is right near the bus stand where we got down. Then he checked with the same hotel, whose administrator was not confirming our booking. However, we again walked back from whete we started to reach Sangam Executive.
They gave us a room that had no AC. This wasn't a problem because the weather was cold. However, what we had paid for was an AC room. One small difference in the name created so much fiasco, and we didn't really get the right room. Had we not paid for it, we wpuld have shifted to another hotel. We even realized that walking in and taking an accomodation was much more cheaper than booking online. There weren't any options for food on their menu and the room wasn't that great. Hotels really need to ensure that they put in the right names for people booking online and make the user experience at least satisfactory.
