FooD OK Please !
Dec 21, 2016 10:49 AM2378 Views

Right on the crowded area, this restaurant is located between food chains up and beside and beside the beside. The specialty of the Restaurant is North Indian food and you should not miss on Cheese Garlic naan here. Other food tastes good just like other North Indian Restaurants, and the quality is good for stomach. The Ambiance is spacious and average, as its really hot and dim in the afternoon time, but you might feel you have come to an unknown modern village of Punjab. The Service is normal, nothing remarkable like juice instead of water in beginning, the nice smiles or polite tone of waiters, no such. Value for money is again normal, as good as other North Indian Restaurants.

Ok, you can try.

Not worth with worst service
Oct 01, 2016 10:42 PM2827 Views

It is the restaurant with the worst service in Pune.

The main course is not at all upto the mark. Service is very poor.Being in the city, they dont even offer us dal-khichdi or starters, neither a roti after 11pm sharp.

Paneer Peshwari that we ordered was not worth. It's just to ruin your pocket. So slow service.

This north Indian Mughlai with no non veg is upseting. They do not have much options on the menu. So, if you are really hungry, dont choose this place.

Ambiance is like that of some cheap marriage hall, separate tables.

I'll suggest not to go.

Mid ranged decent food

Had been to this place with my friend. Place's ambience is unique with even the menu cards influenced by trucks. Never seen something like this. Truly creative. Having said this its very conjusted, which I did not like.

Coming on food, had lots of punjabi dishes, food was ok types. Considering the rates they charged us it was worth I think. They also have punjabi music playing which adds to the good atmosphere.

Highlights in food were paneer tikka & dal makhani.

Horn* OK* Please is located on F.c.road, its dhaba style theme is nice, sitting arrangement is also unique and nice.

This place is overcrowded on weekends, you have to wait for long time to get the table so better you make reservation earlier. Already their service is slow and on weekends it becomes too slow. Taste is average. Prices are moderate. This restaurant didnt attracted me at all. I would not recommend this place.

HORN OK PLEASE - A BLUNDER IN STYLE
Nov 26, 2015 10:56 AM4243 Views

In Pune FC road is a famous hangout place among students and young hearts. ‘HORN OK PLEASE’ on FC road entices many but customers return with sour heart after paying the bills.

Their theme is well-suited for truck drivers; ironically, there was no place to park our bikes – so the first impression we got after tussling for parking was sour. The owner, a woman at the cash counter, was sitting in a foul mood. The waiters didn’t greet us. We felt: we were the forced customers to them. However, we ordered the main course food of both veg. and non-veg. The rotis were tight and burnt, hardly eatable, the paneer kadai was underwhelming and non-veg weren’t encouraging us. Somehow, being in a group, we finished the dinner as we wanted to try it. So we did it. The results were not satisfactory; hence we decided never to visit that Dhaba-like restaurant again.

HORN OK PLEASE - the name of the restaurant neither suggested Punjabi feel nor something unique. It was a blunder in style. The waiters of the restaurant seemed divided, may be among ownership clashes, the overall influence upon then customers and us was negative. The food was insipid, above all, and bill was high.

No feel of Punjabi food

-Food Quality is not good and service is average.

-It tries to create a Punjabi ambiance but food quality nowhere near Punjab.

-Vegetable in the Mix veg were not fresh, we could easily figured out that some of the vegetable were not fresh.

-Taste of paneer was also not so good. it was really a bad experience for all of us.

-That was the first and last time we visited this place.

-Not Recommended.

Restaurant is on FC road. Amazing food this is what in all I can say about this restaurant.

Very nice ambiance, you feel like you are somewhere in punjab da dhaba. Really very nice paneer dishes.

Garlic naan I just loved.Quantity wise also good. Perfect Punjabi preparation.

It's a very nice place for vegetarians. Nice service in fact fast service. Punjabi food lovers will get perfect makke di roti and sarso da saag......

Must visit place.

Yummy paneer
Jul 20, 2011 03:43 PM3529 Views

As I was googling around I came across HORN OK PLEASE and found the name quite interesting. I read the reviews here on MouthShut and reading the reviews of the last person who has also mentioned abt the ambience in detail, I decided to try it out. Well, my husband thought it was quite risky first . even after entering the restaurant he was under the impression that the food wldnt turn out to b good. But to everyones surprise the food was outstanding.

I have never in my life EVER . tasted such yummy tawa paneer and tomato bharta. it was so mouth watering and so delicious. HORN OK PLEASE is not like other restaurants who put in so much oil in the dishes and so much of masalas that cause acidity.:) not joking really. Apart from the main course which included butter nan, for starters we had Veg kathi roll which too was very yummy served alongwith some cabbage salad which was awesome too.

Apart from the food the ambience could have been better. You would notice different quotes on walls like "buri nazar wale tera mu kala" and many others. The ambience is almost like a punjabi dhaba with back of the trucks door and tyres lying on the main entrance. Goog going Horn Ok Please

Search for authentic punjabi food in Pune.
Jul 27, 2008 01:23 PM3606 Views

I am out on a mission, and so are, I safely presume, most of the north indian expats in this city.

The mission is: Search for authentic northindian food(Punjabi style) in pune.

Since the day I landed in pune, I am on this mission, and am yet to find that dream joint, joints which I took for granted in Delhi, soft paneer, dal makhni, raita, lassi, things I miss so much(I am a hardcore foodie but pure veg).

I have led a nomadic life and lived in almost every nook and corner of this country.

Allow me to proudly claim that I have been able to zero in on a hardcore north indian eatery anywhere and everywhere(Found one in chennai as well) but still not much luck in pune. Anyway let me narrate my account of Horn OK Please.

Visited this place last week, reached sharp at 7:00 PM waited outside for around 30 mins in the company of a lone guard, probably the tables were being laid inside.

Once inside, found the ambience to be good, this place is neat and clean and the dim lights allow you to focus on your food. Interiors are designed to create a feel of a roadside dhaba/truckers hangout, so common on highways in North. I normally avoid starters, as they kill my apetite for the main dishes, but it was not to be so this day.

We ordered Tandoori Aloo, Masala Papads and Chaach. The first dish was very ordinary, with boiled potatoes covered in a nondescript thick gravy, flavour of which I could not identify .The cooking was such that the potatoes could not benefit from the heat of the tandoor and remained plain rather than obtaining the golden brown crisp roast normally associated with tandoori aloo, Tandoor could cast its influence only on the gravy which anyway was useless. The only plus I could see was that the dish was fresh and hot(I think it was the 1st order of the day).

Masala papads  needed an additional spray of salt, I liked the chaach, which was not exactly chaach  rather was salted lassi.Chaach basically is supposed to be a very light drink aimed at enhancing your appetite by tickling your tastebuds, this chaach was a heavier version with a thick consistency, which although being fresh made me feel full.

So much for starters, as I said earlier, I am not one to beat around the bush, rather prefer to hit right on the target. You may say my tretise on the starters might not be as objective as I would have prefered it to be.Suit yourself, as the saying goes "Make your own mistakes".

I did my regular and deliberate mistake, with the objective of learning from it, my litmus is "soft and fresh paneer(the one I used to take for granted in delhi, and was available in opulance even in roadside dhabas) and raita made of fresh curd " , so I ordered both along with missi rotis, my friends added a rajma masala(I normally despice Rajma so wont comment on it) with lachha parathas.

Order arrived, well in time(Restaurent was half full by this time).

Paneer was almost like it is everywhere else in pune, hard and difficult to chew, or maybe a shade better.Bundi in bundi raita was smelly(profusely smelling of bad oil, as if far beyound its shelf life), rendering the raita unedible although the curd in the raita was fresh and good.

Lachha Parathas badly needed atleast one lachha each, if nothing then just for namesake. They looked like normal tandoori parathas to me.

The one exception was missi roti which was exceptionally soft, tender and had a beautiful taste.

I summarise by saying that this place overall is a shade better then most  I visited in pune but nowhere near what I am looking for.

But then I would suggest you visit it once and make your own mistakes.

Keep experimenting and do let me know if you find a good place.

Write back if you like my review and also if you dont.

Cheers

Shekhar

''Pizza Hut!''

''Er.....Horn OK PLease?''

''Huh?''

''What?''

''Come again?''

We were all out on Pune's famous J. M. Road yesterday evening. Packed to the capacity with tons of eateries, J.M. Road (which, incidently, has even earned a place in the Guiness Book of World Records for having the most number of hotels on one road!) seemed the perfect place for my friend to give us all his birthday treat.

''Er, listen guys, I'm...uh....a little tight on my budget, so unless you all want to cough up an extra Rs. 50 or so each, I don't think we should go to any of these swanky places!'' A collective groan went up. But after all, since nobody wanted to be poorer by 50 Rs. (especially me, I had been saving up for a Michael Jackson CD!), we trooped down to F. C. Road, to the place suggested by my friend: Horn OK Please.

=============================================

Strange sounding name? Not at all! OK, What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the words 'Horn OK Please'? Remember that day when you tagged along a narrow road behind that huge truck moving at snail's pace and never budging to a side? Of course you remember all those swear words you said at that time! But what was staring you in the face the whole while??? The words 'Horn OK Please'! They seem an inseperable part of any Indian truck!

As soon as I stepped into the hotel, the first thing that came to my mind was ''Wow! The bloke who designed the interior of this place is a really creative guy!''

When you reach the entrance, the first impression that you get is, ''Oh my God! I've accidently walked into a dirty old dhaba!'' Indeed, the entrance of this place, complete with two large truck tires, a replica of the back of a truck (with the words 'Horn OK Please' on it, of course!) and an extremely well-crafted model of a mile stone announcing: Nagpur: 800 kms, Horn OK Please: 0 kms'', reinforced our belief that the owner was off his chump - the hotel certainly looked out of place in the midst of all the glittering Cafe Coffee Days, Baristas and Burger Kings.

But once inside, it was nothing like a dirty old dhaba! Of course, the decor guy had obviously gone to great lengths to make it look like a dirty old dhaba, but thank goodness, it was much more cleaner!

The ceiling looked like it was stuffed to the last inch with glowing lava-lamps. On every wall, there were wooden boards with comic sayings printed on them (13 mera 7 - Tera mera Saath!) and there was a huge horn (the kind that you see in trucks, which you press to scare other people out of their wits!) on the counter.

We chose a rather nice, rickety old wooden table and were immediately presented with the MOST creative menus I had ever seen in a restaurant. They soon had us in splits:

Soups and Starters - Dhakka Start.

Snacks - Engine Garam.

First Course - 1st Gear.

Second Course - 2nd Gear.

Third Course - 3rd Gear.

Desserts - 4th Gear.

That was simply superb! It endeared us to the little place at once!

We placed our order for Paneer Makhanwala, Methi Mutter Malai, Veg. Pulao, and Butter Paranthas (slurp!). My friend, who was footing the bill was silently trying to calculate the approximate bill, but he broke off when he caught my eye.

We waited. And waited. And hummed songs. Talked among ourselves. And waited. Checked out the cute chicks(!), blew that horn on the counter so many times that we started attracting severe looks from the other diners. And waited. Killed some flies....and waited.

Just as I was about to get up and give that waiter a bashing he would remember to his grave, our food arrived! (Phew!)

Hot and steaming, as the waiter served it up, I could barely wait to chomp.....and chomp I did! The food was superb! Not to spicy, nor too bland, and the Paneer was exactly as I liked it!

We shifted into the fourth gear and had ice-cream as dessert, and the waiter proudly told us that they made their own ice-cream, the authentic way, with the wooden churner and all!!!

The best part was, that the bill didn't burn my friend's pocket (I was going to put 'didn't burn a hole' but Mouthshut didn't allow me to put the word 'hole' for....erm...obvious reasons!), and fit his budget exactly!

As we walked out of the door, I spied another of those comic signboards by the door that seemed to voice my thoughts at the moment exactly.......Phir Milenge! (We will meet again soon!)

HORN *OK* PLEASE
Jun 19, 2004 05:07 PM4926 Views

HORN OK PLEASE No I am not following an oversized truck and honking my car?s horn expecting a ?side? from an indifferent truck driver while writing this piece, instead I just happened to visit this almost unnoticeable curious little place tucked in a corner of the famous FC road in Pune and this happens to be the name of the place HORN OK PLEASE. The signboard of this rather spooky looking place is actually a truck?s rear plank painted with the slogan mentioned above which we are so used to around this part of the world.

There is this small little ?khatiya? lying besides the wall carrying the sign with lots of people trying to fit in their bottoms on the poor little thing while they seem to wait anxiously for their turn. A still larger number is waiting standing around the ?khatiya?.

Finally curiosity gets the better of me and I take a closer look?.and whoooops ... What do I see??.people sitting inside having dinner?.yes honey! Welcome to Punjab?errr?Pune?.this is a ?theth? Punjabi dhaba right on FC road. Being a die hard fan of Punjabi food I finally heed to my tongue?s calling and get my name written in the waiting list by a tall ?jatt? sort of person whose origin I can not but imagine to be anything else than Punjab (he looks like the owner himself), who asks me to wait for 15-20 minutes.

There is this funny looking ?bhonpoo? (horn - like the ones we have in trucks) nailed on the reception table to call the waiting guests as their number comes. I take a peek inside while I am waiting in a place what looked like a verandah of old Punjabi homes through an old style door. Inside I see a small ?angan? (courtyard) pretty much jammed to the limit with wooden furniture.

There are some ?khatiyas? too lying with people comfortable lay and having dinner on them. There is a canvas cloth stretched over the place and some lanterns hanging around to light up the place. In spite of only the bare minimum things present there I could not but appreciate the place?s ambiance. They have tried to recreate that roadside dhaba (which are so common in north India - especially Punjab) feeling in there in this totally contrasting urban setting.

My turn comes sooner than expected and I am delighted to be seated in one of the corner table with my wife. The waiters seem to be quite busy as there is frenzied activity all around in the wake of the large number of guests.

The owner takes notice that we have been unattended to for the last 5 minutes and comes to rescue ? immediately sends a waiter to take order. Hmmmm?! What shall we have? Of course ?makke di roti and sarson da saag?! But surprisingly ?la carte? doesn?t contain those. Even more surprisingly the menu doesn?t contain any non vegetarian food??chicken shicken, tikka shikka?!! But anyways it still makes a good reading for Punjabi food fans. So we order ?Kadi Pakodi? and ?Paneer Masala? along with?missi roti? and ?Nan?. And oh! We order some?namkeen lassi? too (how could we not).

Meanwhile I couldn?t help but ogle shamelessly at other people?s food as the aroma in the air was making my tongue drop to the floor. Fortunately, the food arrived in good time and in no time I was tearing the missi roti like a hungry lion (or whatever). The Kadi Pakodi had a very unfamiliar taste, something which I didn?t like (neither did my wife) and was too thin for our liking. But the Paneer Masala was divine. So were the missi rotis.

Soft in the core, crisp on outside, dripping with desi ghee?!! Yum Yum. I loved the food overall and wished for more. Would have licked the dish clean had my wife not reminded that we were sitting in a restaurant. The bill didn?t bother much either?Rs. 170 for a stomach full of food for two. To conclude, the HORN inside me rang and told me to pay another visit in near future to the place.
