Hooghly Mohsin College began on 1 August 1836. college  used his wealth for charitable purposes, including this college. Initially, it was named the New Hooghly College. On its 100th anniversary it became Hooghly Mohsin College. It became affiliated to University of Calcutta since the latter’s initiation in 1857. After the establishment of the University of Burdwan in 1960, the college became its constituent college.

The Highly Mohsin college is the pride of Burdwan University because of its academic excellence and educational atmosphere. Besides the Ganga river the college is situated and which is more than 150 years old, the college is so named after it's founder Haji Mohammed Mohsin.  The college campus is very big and bear a calm and educational atmosphere.

The professors are very helpful and the laboratory infrastructure are nice for students. The annual results are also good for every subjects. So obviously it has no doubt that this college is the best college of Burdwan University.

Hoogly Mohsin College was established in 1836 and located at Chinsurah, Hoogly, West Bengal . It is one of the oldest colleges in India and affiliated under University of Burwan. It has been awarded as B+ by NAAC. This college is having Arts, Commerce and Science sections. Teachers are highly qualified and well experienced. . It is purely Government college. As it is purely Government College and Teachers get handsome salary, some teachers neglect their duties. Secondly teachers explain in class definitely but they do not give updated notes. Therefore the student find difficulty to make notes. Thidly co-curricula activities is less in this collge. Most of the time miss understanding happens among students of different political groups in the campus. If college authority rectifies above mentioned points then students will be benefitted.
