Golden dragon-best chinese restaurant in town
Mar 11, 2005 09:17 PM3080 Views

Golden Dragon-the chinese restaurant located in Taj Mahal hotel is the best chinese restaurant I've been to in mumbai..

The food here is amazing, though it is a bit bland according to the standards of the hotel since they cater mostly to high class clientile but then u can tell ur choice n the chef will make it according to ur liking..be it spicy or non spicy, sweet or sour..the flavor is excellent with rich aroma of sauces n vegetables they put in..portion size is decent enough ofr 3-4 ppl.

The food is very appealing also because of the presentation they have..the serving dishes they use also makes it very attractive n appealing..I happened to be there in january with my family for my birthday dinner..we have made the reservation in advance since the place is usually full during dinner time n to avoid waiting u need to book on advance..also it being my bday the staff had arranged a complementary cake for me which was delicious.

The best part was the dessert we had- strawberry flambe, and it was yummy !!!!. The staff is very friendly and courteous also..the only thing that is not acceptable in the restaurant is the pricing..the rates are beyond ones imagination...meal for 4 would cost no less than 4000 to 4500 rupees with alcohol...but believe me its worth it...its a lifetime experience dining in such a high profile fine dining chinese restaurant in Taj...

The best chinese restaurant in Bombay

By far the best chinese restaurant in Bombay, The Golden Dragon at the Taj has the makings of a star restaurant- excellent food, reasonably good ambience, & extremely efficient staff. This is one restaurant where you will be assured consistency & quality.

Although people say its not authentic chinese cuisine, I say 'Thank God for that!' I don't think our Indian tastebuds could stomach the too bland authentic chinese food & the too spicy authentic schezwan food. Authentic chinese has two characteristics which we are not used too - Firstly, in the non - veg. the variety of meats are too gross (eg. snake, chicken feet, etc) & secondly the sauces & flavours have a predominantly fishy taste which can get too much even for sea food lovers.

Golden Dragon however, has achieved the perfect balance of combining chinese recepies with well accepted indian ingredients. Not only are the mouthwatering delicacies freshly cooked, the wines, cocktails & mocktails are always superb too. Although it is pricey it is definitely recommended for those who don't mind splashing out for a good meal. I highly recommend almost the whole menu but some of the very good dishes are - peking duck, salt & pepper squid, prawns dry red chilly, burnt garlic tenderloin, butter chilly oyster chicken, stir fried harricot beans, whole pomfret steamed & served on a bed of chinese greens & for dessert the flambed mangoes, sweet darsan or the nutty honey ice cream(home made by the Taj). Hats off to the chefs especially Hemant Oberoi.
