A few years ago, Gokul, Colaba, Mumbai was amazing, but slowly its quality of food is degrading and they have increased the prices as well.

The aroma of the food served here is enough to drag you here!

Too large serving sizes
Dec 20, 2019 08:48 AM 1875 Views

This restaurant serves food that is very extreme in its portion sizes and that is generally not suited for groups that visit here in the count of 4 to 5 people. As a result apart from filling dishes, too large serving sizes leads to food wastage.

Good service

This restaurant has top notch food and the food is toothsome as well. They have a poolside seating as well, which is an amazing view.

Rocking rolls!
Nov 13, 2016 04:28 AM 2805 Views (via Android App)

Ummmm. have you ever felt, seeing food made in front of you and all ur mind says ah looks mouth watering!

Exactly what this place is for! Amazing skilld cooks rolling RUMALI ROTIS in front of you and veggies/paneer/ chicken is getting barbequed in front of you!

No need to make any reservations, bt its jus a walk in place for rolls! Rolls are worthy price and 1 roll can easily fill your tummy up!

Personal recommendation

Schezwan chicken roll and malai paneer roll ( nw known wit different names)

180 rs and 150 rs is all you have to spare for each of them non veg and veg respectively!

A total thumbs up and worthy try

Be relax and enjoy to the fullest

During college days me and my group use to  attend this place regularly as its light on the pocket and it is very spacious. We always went in big groups ordered plenty of stuff

Crowd and noise never bothered back then now it does.everyone makes noice so we also used to do.I recommend their tandoori chicken, surmai fry, prawns koliwada, chicken chilly with spicy schzewan sauce to go along with booze.rates are not too high.Even girls come there so there is not an issue and it is not a typical bar.Sophisticated people give their presence.

An excellent place to drink at!

An integral part of the SoBo night life.Gokul has been a legendary watering hole that offers cheap Booz and hence draws a lot of crowd. This place is always full of people. The service is okay and not great. The food too is alright.

Only thing that entertains me is the crowd. You will find people were various background and in various attires. There are office goers, college students, foreigners, people from not so great background etc etc. It is a mix of people from everywhere, here.

Definitely a great place to have drinks with friends and actually chill. This place is for those people who have an agenda to drink and just drink.

Gokul – A must visit for all the drunkards
Apr 20, 2015 09:59 PM 4161 Views

Yes, I mean it, a place for drunkards, totally. My friends who cannot live without drinking took me to this place, where I sat looking at everyone. It looks like a small resto from outside, but within it is a big place, divided into 3 sections, two lower and one upper. So we selected the upper section, and even at 6pm in the evening, it was all dark there.

The atmosphere is completely set keeping in mind that people will come her to drink and the rates are also comparatively less. I was the only one there to eat and ordered for a starter and roti and gravy. While that arrived, I passed my time eating peanuts(chakna) while all were chilling drinking.

Food was nice and so were their drinks. A nice experience on and all, specially the ambience.

Gokul restaurant and bar in Colaba, Mumbai has gained a cult status amongst its regular patrons. The food isn't anything great, and the ambiance is dark and smokey.

What is great is that you get your favorite drinks at very reasonable rates here. It is a great place to hang out with friends at the month end, when the ash flow is low and drink supply needs to be high.

I don't drink alcoholic beverages but my friends did. So it was one of our favorite hang out places. All college students from near by areas(Churchgate, CST) throng to Gokul to quench their thirst. We just needed a reason to bunk lectures and go to Gokul.

Oh you passed? Let's go to Gokul! Oh you broke up with with your GF? Let's go to Gokul! I am so bored, let's go to Gokul! Hope you get the idea, how necessary it was to go to Gokul;)

Its a fun place with good vibe and all young crowd. Give it a try when you are in Colaba Causeway next time.

A one time budget place!!!

Gokul is an awesome place to chill our with your friends on weekends or in the evenings post work. If you are in South Bombay and would like to visit a bar, then this is one of the best place, which is not too expensive(unlike other places in Colaba).

The place is huge with ground+ first floor. Talking about the ambiance, it is dark with dim lights, which is nothing but relaxing. The crowd that walks in is pretty decent, too. It is one of the oldest bars that I have known of. I have been visiting it for years now, with different set of friends. The starters are pretty yummilicious as well.

You will find people of young to old age group and both the genders. Gokul is a fine place. However, the seats can get uncomfortable sometimes, and the leg room is not quite spacious. I am a non-smoker, so I prefer sitting on the ground floor, because the first floor permits smoking. Also, be a little wise before paying your bills, as there have been instances where you will be charged for something you never ordered.

One for the good times!

I don’t believe this either. How many ad guys, shippies and gays here? And just one review of Goks!? Ok here goes. First: I’m the first group. Second: Lonely Planet describes it in rather unflattering terms “…100% male…spartan décor… great place to meet locals…no frills…have a cheap beer and leave…” That’s like describing Priyanka Chopra as “just another woman” IMAGINE! So here’s where the record gets set right. Goks is located in that part of town where most foreigners hang out. (Get directions elsewhere.) It’s also an iconic place that has weathered the ravages of time and the unrelenting advancement of modernity. The only compromise being plasma tv relegated to a dark corner. Gokul is one of those places that one loves…or loves to hate. It’s a watering hole. A hangout place. A meeting point. Or a pick-up joint… albeit for those of a different preference, if you get what I mean. It’s true that many moons ago it was a gay hangout on the weekends (no puns intended). The mis-guided zeal of a reporter ended that. Goks is today Mecca for the noon-time tippler or the pessimistic office-goer. It’s also the preferred place of itinerant shippies, down and out ad guys, up-coming execs and down-going entrepreneurs. The place is divided into various sections. The first section being non-ac and serving quarters of your favored poison. The 2nd section is for the non-smoking comfort seeking male. That is ac but no smoking allowed. But the 3rd section? Ah, now we get to the crux of the matter. The door to this section is watched over by a guy in a small counter. He’s St. Peter come down to Earth. If he likes your face or decides that you don’t look like a trouble-maker you go in. If not, you get told “Full hai” Tongue firmly in cheek and hand firmly on closed door handle. Once in, the pervading gloom sets the mood. It’s got an ac, serves pegs only and has the regulars coming there. Women have always been safe in this place (my lady friends used to wait for me here) and the regulars are friendly guys. Waiters watch over the women ensuring no mischief. A large peg of mainline booze comes for around 35 bucks a peg. The Mutton Masala is something you should try; heavy on the spices and thick with gravy.  Staple orders here are beer, chicken lollipop, fried fish, and “daal, masala marke”. You could also try out the seekh kebabs. No, they won’t serve Bade Miyan stuff. And you can’t carry it in. The pomfret recipes are fine. And the other starters ok. Goks is a hard-core drinking place with eating coming 2nd. Conversations get progressively louder as the hours pass. And the air gets thicker with the smell of cigarette smoke and growing desperation. The small entrepreneurs make their points vocally. While the young execs crack their jokes as merrily. The waiters recognize regulars and a smile is rewarded with… a cold stare. (Remember the old gay days, buddy?).

The loo is quite an adventure. If you’ve got a drunk fellow-pisser then slink out. If not, p iss away to your bladders content. 4 pissoirs in a small passage makes for an interesting experience… remember the old…oh chuck it. Any seating place is fine as long as it’s not the seats between the ladies loo and the bar area. That’s reserved for a group of regulars who on weekends raise merry cain. Nice friendly bunch tho’. Professional who have bonded over time and look fondly upon Goks with alcohol glazed eyes. It’s a place where you can treat your friend and not feel the pinch. I’ve spent quite a few evenings with a group of friends (4-6) and had the bill come as a pleasant surprise. Also, no matter how drunk you may be, you can rely on the bill being accurate. I’ve yet to experience a wrong bill moment.  It’s also a place where you can share a few quite moments with you main squeeze, if the lingering smell of cigarette smoke is ok. If you’re the type who is into “meeting locals” as Lonely Planet puts it, then you’re barking up the wrong tree buddy. See that old balding pot-bellied man with a drooping moustache in the corner who’s talking up a foreigner? We’ll he’s a leftover from the old days. Try to approach the average Goks dweller and you’ll be left standing in the passage. All alone and ignored.  Goks is open till you're done. Or passed out. Just don't make too much of a mess.

Don’t know if credit cards are accepted. Never tried to pull one out after more than 4 pegs. Have you?
