Very Poor After Sales Service from Godrej
Apr 27, 2003 12:25 AM 6780 Views

I had bought Godrej frost free refigerator about 5 years ago. The compressor nOw needs replacement costing Rs 5000 which I am ready to pay for. However inspite of about 30 follow ups with their Smart Care centralised service centre the replacement is not in sight. Their local center is so unique that nobody picks up the phone at any time of the day. PLEASE AVOID GODREJ PRODUCTS IF YOU VALUE YOUR PEACE OF MIND.

Condenser unit replacement
Nov 04, 2002 12:03 AM 8612 Views

Our fridge's condenser unit has to be replaced as per the report of the Godrej authorised dealer's technician.

But the dealer doesn't stock this item. He says it will take four months to get it from Mumbai.

Remedy is to fix a similar condenser unit out side the unit.

The original is fitted inside the fridge. The similar condenser unit is costing Rs.700 and the original spare price is Rs.4000.(which would take 4 months to get it)

Why not Godrej ask dealers to stock the spares of fast moving models.

I am located in the Kanyakumari DIst. of Tamilnadu and the dealer name is Chitaranjandass.

To tell this the technician charged Rs.50 for his visit to my home.

Replacing a similar condenser can be done at any refrigerator repair shop. Why should I go to Godrej Service to get this answer after paying Rs.50.

Finally I have decided to repair it locally thru an unauthorised repair shop.

Too Cool
Oct 08, 2002 06:35 PM 16983 Views

“Oooh!! Its too cool in here!”. This would be the exclamation of anything that is kept inside the refrigerator that I am going to tell you about. Well, taking center stage out here is the “Godrej Pentacool” refrigerator that has caught many an attention. The Pentacool is all set to make many a benchmark in refrigeration and has been carefully and thoughtfully designed with an International European Design House to meet particular household needs. Let us get to know more about this fridge.

The Design: Specially designed with the latest international looks from the design centers of Europe, the Godrej Pentacool stands tallest in the market. Its door handle comes with a unique ‘eye design’ that is not just great to look at but easier to grip. A high glass finish ensures that it is a pride for the owner and an eye sore for your neighbour. Castors located at the rear of the refrigerator facilitate easy movement of the refrigerator in case it needs to be shifted somewhere else. The flat clean back ensures efficient heat dissipation and has an external condensor at the bottom. What more? An exciting range of colours and a clean back design, give the refrigerator a new age look and as for the design, full marks to this fridge.

Freezer Compartment: This ‘too-cool’ compartment can be used to store ice-creams (hmm…yummy!) and other frozen deserts. The freezer is actually provided with two ice trays. The trays are stackable. You can either form ice in stacked trays or stack after ice is made.

Refrigerator Compartment: The compartment firstly has a chiller. In this special chamber, food is stored at close to 0 degrees which keeps items like paneer, cold cuts, milk packets and fish etc., soft. The chiller comes with a unique design that minimizes sweating below the chiller tray. Normally it is the milk packets and chocolates that make way into the chiller. The fridge comes with one large transparent vegetable tray with a recessed handle that keeps vegetables fresh for a longer time. There are adjustable storage shelves. Wide and deep, the position of these wire shelves can be conveniently adjusted to suit your needs. There is a half shelf that gives you the flexibility to store tall vessels/glasses without blocking.

The refrigerator is provided with a light bulb at the back to ensure proper illumination. The most impressive of the lot is Magic Eye. There is a set of 3 LEDs that act as an excellent indicator for power connection, compressor functioning and earthing. A side lock has been incorporated for better aesthetics. More so, a Door Chime is present which rings if your refrigerator remains open for more than 120 seconds. This ensures optimum cooling and efficient working.

The Door Panel: The thoughtfully designed door panel gives you versatality of storage and provides full utilization of precious space. There are removable egg trays, utility trays, push up shelf, two extra deep bottle racks and bottle snuggers in the door panels that’ll satisfy all our needs.

Here I’d like to say a word or two about the Thermostat. The Godrej Pentacool is equipped with an External Thermostat that efficiently regulates the temperature of the refrigerator. It has a unique setting indicated by a cloud. This setting can be used in humid and wet weather to avoid unnecessary cooling. This also saves energy. In addition it reduces any external moisture on the outside surface.

Some Pentacool Specials: The refrigerator comes with a HI 5 Freezer that cools from 5 sides thanks to a radical breakthrough in refrigeration technology. This gives you ice in double quick time. Probably no other refrigerator delivers as much cooling power as the Godrej Pentacool. Added cooling power would mean added power consumption, right? Wrong. The power saver compressor of Pentacool works faster and yet saves power. A thicker insulation ensures better retention of cooling. More so the Super Silent Compressor works smoothly and silently.

Well, what more shall I say? In my opinion, the Godrej Pentacool is a wonderful refrigerator that provides greater cooling and ensures fresher food stuff. If you happen to live in India and are planning to buy a refrigerator, then I would strongly recommend this fridge.

Why Penta? This one is PolyCool!

Wow! I love Preiti Zinta very much. She is damn cute! No wonder, Godrej found that she with her cute-n-naughty looks can work wonder for their cool product - The Godrej Pentacool series of refrigerators. I also liked the advertisement that showed a neighbouring kid bringing an ice-cream for Preiti but it is all melted and then she keeps the milkshakes in her Pentacool and there it is icecream again - in a jiffy! Very well advertised.

My sister wanted a new refrigerator at her place in Mulund and she knows that the right person to help her out, is her own brother - Me! ''Ameet does have a lot of general awareness and I think we consult him'', is what she tells her hubby who has the expensive foreign makes in mind. But I am sure with Achougoo's guide on MS, even Msians agree that I have an upper hand. (Ok yes, I admit that I sound very much like Reggie from Archies). I told them to walk in the shop and just look at the Godrej Pentacool and pick the 235L model, which would suit them just fine. They went and had a look at different models. Her hubby was particularly impressed by the LG and Whirlpool make, but eventually they landed up buying the Godrej Pentacool GF 24 (235L), just what I told them to. And mind you, this is not just a co-incidence! If you would like to know the reasons, just read along.

«« IT STANDS TALL AMONGST COMPETITION »»

I mean more in literal sense. The fridge looks very tall and slim. Then again it does not have any protruding handles. It has a notch like arrangement similar to my Kelvinator Mastercool. The 2-door model has a big freezer and a surprisingly spacious cooling compartment. The vinyl pre-coating is scratch proof and also glistens beautifully. It can be wiped clean - that simple. The coils are hidden well along the sides and are not visible. The fridge also comes with anti-rust measures.

«« ULTRA SPACIOUS »»

The fridge looks compact from outside. Open that door and you are in for a surprise. Forget Penguins, it can house an entire Polar bear! It has not 3 or 4 but 6 shelves that divides the cabin ideally to house foodstuff, packets, and vessels of any size. But that's not all; there is an element of flexibility built in as it has different grooves, which adjusts the height of the shelves.

The shelves are not wire meshes, but acrylic trays. They look nice and strong though one can see a slight slag when a vessel is kept at the center. But it is spill proof. If you drop some liquid, there is no need to clean the entire fridge. Just remove the single tray and clean it. Easy on maintenance!

«« FREEZER »»

This is several times bigger than my 165L model. It has three sections.

1) The ice-making factory: The water-filled trays are kept in. The ice forms fairly quick. Just use the twist and turn knobs and the ice is collected in another tray, ready to serve.

2) Quick freeze corner: There is a special separate chamber at the right hand top side with separate cooling adjustments labeled 'A' to 'E' where 'E' is the coldest setting. So this is where Preiti and now my sister keep milkshakes and you have ice-cream in minutes.

3) The acrylic box: The rest of the space is for keeping other things that would be better freezed. But then there is a box that fills half the remaining space. You can choose to store ice-cream packs or some other meat/chicken/fish items that need not spread its smell to other items in the freezer or well...hmm...yummy...chocolates.

«« VEGETABLE TRAY »»

Like in most fridges, the vegetable tray is at the bottom. It is of acrylic. But then it has a separator to keep the fruits and vegetables separate - thoughtful, isn't it?

«« DOORS »»

The fact that it has 2 doors is a hint enough to know that it is frost-free. The freezer door has a shelf where my sister keeps Venky's Chicken nuggets. The main door has 4 shelves, too. The lowermost is meant for large 1.5 liter Cola sized bottles. Can house 3 such big bottles with 1 normal sized bottle. The shelf above is for normal sized bottles. The rack above it is meant for butter/cheese/masala packs and above that is a smaller shelf, largely meant for egg racks, which unlike my fridge are removable.

Psst! The door of this model also starts chiming if you keep it open for 2 minutes. So no lack of cooling, because of your absent mindedness.

«« MAGIC EYE »»

Nothing special here! Just that there are 3 LEDs that show when the fridge is ON, and compressor is working and whether earthing is proper.

«« COOLING »»

Godrej manufactures its own compressors and is well reputed and has large network in India (Mumbai at least). The compressor has a power saver feature that works silently in the background giving you the consistent and reliable cooling. It is also environment friendly and is CFC, HCFC and HFC free. Besides it has IntelliFlo cooling i.e. the vent is centrally located and has a 4-way split that directs the cool air in 4 directions to ensure uniform cooling. Then again it has humidity control arrangement to keep the vegetables fresher.

«« SO IT IS ALL PERFECT, THEN? »»

Well almost, but there are some features, which are missing. It does not have door-cooling system like LG has. Also the deodorizer is not there. And the fridge is fairly new and has not showed any signs of fatigue at all.

So which fridge suits your requirement and your purse as well? You know the answer right - make it the Godrej Pentacool G24.

A Real Cool One from Godrej
Oct 04, 2002 11:11 AM 36405 Views

One fine morning I decided to do away with my old Godrej Ultra 165 ltr refrigerator, as I was getting increasingly uncomfortable with it due to my growing family size. Being a part of the great Indian middle class, I was actually on a look out for an exchange offer. Varsha Electronics, Raheja Arcade, Bangalore offered me one. The choice was between a Samsung, an LG, and the Godrej Pentacool (GF24), and I tell you folks, with Godrej Pentacool, it was a love at first site!

The refrigerator has an elegant tall look (infact the tallest in the market). The trick is that Godrej has reduced the depth and width of the refrigerator, and increased its height. Thus the modest 235 litre refrigerator has come to be the tallest in the market! This modification, I must admit, is a very clever one ; it is my observation that additional depth is not a convenient feature from utility point of view in a refrigerator ; it makes retrieving things pushed behind, from the refrigerator, difficult. On the other hand, spacing between the shelves is always a bonus ; it enables you to store and retrieve larger items without any difficulty.

The interiors of Godrej Pentacool are well designed, providing reasonable flexibility to the owner to do minor customization. The 185 litre refrigerator compartment is provided with double lamps which make it well illuminated and attractive. The shelves are made up of transparent plastic, and not the usual aluminium grill. There is a fan-assisted air-flow system within the refrigerator. There is also a door-chime system ; in case you forget to close the door, the door-chimes are there to remind you that. The ''magic eye'' on the outer side of the refrigerator gives you an indication on power, compressor working mode, and earthing (faulty earthing is the reason behind many a domestic electrical accidents in India). The refrigerator comes with a platinum deodorizer, and is frost-free. It has a clean back as the condenser is provided at the bottom.

The model is provided with a modest 50 litre freezer. One draw-back is that the freezer does not have a lamp. There is a quick-chill component in the freezer for making ice-cubes and the like. The ratio of cool air flow between the freezer and refrigerator is altered by a control built in to the freezer, and there is a thermostat knob inside the refrigerator.

The power consumption is 150 watts at the maximum freezer setting! Though the refrigerator is supposed to have the capacity to withstand voltage fluctuations, it is always better to use it with an external voltage stabilizer under Indian conditions. Despite Godrej's claims that their compressor is ''super-silent'', it is found to be not exactly so. There are castors on the back side of the refrigerator to assist in moving the refrigerator, which is again very thoughtful of the manufacturers.

On a whole, Pentacool is a convenient, trouble-free (with Godrej's extensive dealer network spread all over the country for back up support), and stylish looking refrigerator. Last but the least, do not miss that Preity Zinta's advertisement on the TV on Godrej Pentacool!

Hey if you are really irritated by reading my last two reviews then please Cool Off.Yep I really mean it, go get some ice cubes and put it on head. Whaaaat no ice in your Freeze(Well I know that’s not proper word for it, few non Indians might call it as Refrigerator) then really the time has come to bury your old so called Refrigeratorin the nearest sea. Really from last 10-12 years it has served me without any squawk. We hardly realized the significance of Refrigerator unless until it starts behaving abnormally and that is mainly due to our negligence. It gives us really dependable service through out.

As a said due to negligence I lost my old trusted buddy after very long service. I feel sorry but you know we ‘ve to replace such things as early as possible to make human life more comfortable. So 1 year before I bought new Godrej 230 Ultra double door. At that time it was really a new kind of feature I thought. Though there is really fierce competition in market, nearly 8-10 companies having their products with different capacities, different technologies (!) and colors. I purchased mainly due to their network of service centers.

It also has common features (compare to others in the market) viz. Freezer, Ice try, Thermostat and light switch, Shelves and lot many. But interesting parts that I found are no web of cords at the back. Half – Shelf for putting tall bottles without blocking storage place. Humidity Controller to control the humidity in crisper (Veg. Tray) we can even adjust this with small aperture at Crisper. Reversible Door for either left opening or right which can done easily at home. And uniform cooling for better preservation of eatables.

As far as defrosting is concern Godrej Ultra is really efficient. It does it in minimum time and thus less power utilized. Also no condensation of moisture on the internal walls and any other components. It also has Cyclic Defrosting-Every time compressor stops, the frost melts. It takes place automatically depending upon the settings of thermostat. But for high humidity it might have to be done manually. Due drain hole and drain tube defrost water automatically drains out which was not there in previous versions (remember how water starts accumulating in room if you have Refrigerator like Dynora). Most importantly as I devoted few lines in my last 2 reviews on insects this time also since there are no gaps or crevices available for Mr. Roach and his brothers can’t get in and breed.

At last but not least before purchasing any Refrigerator look at the following technicalities, which I got from manual.

Defrosting – Manual, Cyclic.

Dimensions (HxWxD)- 1525x585x705mm

Weight – 52-61kgs

Capacity – 230 liters

Etc.

Most importantly prize is around Rs.10K.

Godrej deep door is good refrigirator. I have been using this for past 6 1/2 year and it is good. I am a fan of godrej company and mostly I like the products. I had been using 165 l. Which I exchanged for deep door, I like it because of its deep door. I can keep many items in the deep frizer. I plan to change in to much bigger frize. but I still want Godrej to produce deep door fridge. I had seen some few but I did not like much. I love to take a bigger fridge. I sometimes do agree that the plastic quality should be improved. But still godrej is best. It is one of the old company. and Old is Gold

A big mistake?
Sep 03, 2002 10:23 AM 9349 Views

I had a Godrej frost free 185 fridge since 1997. A couple of months ago we received a phone call from Godrej that the warrenty period on this is over and they would give a free check up for it. They promised to send some one on a sunday. We waited whole Sunday but no one turned up. After a month there was another call and appointment on another Sunday. This time a guy did turn up and suggested that we excahnge this piece for a new Pentacool. He offered Rs.3500/- for the used piece. We agreed. I gave a cheque on the spot. In three days a new fridge was brought and the old one was taken away. They did not even start it. When it was started by us the compressor would not stop and the fridge would not start unless put on maximum. Complaint numbers we were given were useless. The receivers were always down. At one of the numbers they noted the complaint and said that some one will come within 48 hours. In the mean time my medicines, milk, vegetables all got spoiled. I must have made atleast 20 calls. Even I coud make out that the Thermostat was defective. Finally a mechanic arrived and said that teh Thermostat was defective and he would bring it next day. He did not turn up for two days. I traced him and he said that they were out of stock for this part. We asked for a total replacement of the unit. After repeated pleading a part was brought and replaced. I feel that it is malfunctioning but there is no point in complaining. A written complaint has not been replied.

Service is poor. No one bothers if you complain. I do not know how much power is being consumed. The compressor rarely suts off. We were promised a gift which has not yet ben given. A week after the unit was given they announced 30% discount.

A good product for indian needs
Sep 03, 2002 10:23 AM 12041 Views

This 300 lts ultra single door refrigerators was purchased by us 2 year back due to its features which are meant only for typical indian type family. While purchasing it,we also considered other models of various competitors like L.G,SAMSUNG & likes but we find it the most suitable. The product has since being performing very well & cools everything very fast,is able to withstand frequent voltage fluctuations.I would like to say that this product is a''Fit for need as well as Fit for pocket''.Ultimately, this will be an ideal buy for those who want to keep their eatables fresh for a long time. Also it is very easy to clean & maintain, just take a damp cloth & wipe it.It becomes as good as new.

Surviving Hard
Aug 27, 2002 10:44 AM 7522 Views

Just days before this, my mom was burning hot out of anger for me breaking a compartment in our fridge. I had a hard time but one has to accept the fact that our refrigerator's compartment were not of good quality. Yes, we do own Godrej Frostfreerefrigerators for 2 years now and Oh! My God! It has problems galore. I am not so happy with this fridge and let me enlighten you about this refrigerator.

The Godrej Frostfree refrigerator comes with a clean back double door technology that keeps the food cool and frostfree. Hmm.....as if!! The freezer compartment in itself has 3 partitions namely, Quick-freezing corner, Freezer shelf and twin ice trays and an Ice server. To be really honest the quick freezing doesn’t really work. The least possible time in which I could get ice was around 30 minutes and that, is no good. Moreover, placing things in the freezer compartment is in itself a big adventure of sorts, the very reason being space, that is so little, and the arrangement of the inner partitions. All you can at best is get good ice creams made.

Coming to the main refrigerator compartments, I was utterly disappointed with the amount of space available. You can’t even keep 'dinner dishes' inside. While the Vegetable tray occupies 33% of the space, the other racks provide very little flexibility. The chill case comes with a slide and fold flexi shelf and three-way adjustment for normal, large and extra large items. But whats the point when the space is just not enough and the tray material are really poor. Just pull it, and there is a fair chance of it breaking. The Vegetable tray is big and many vegetables can be accommodated. This is a plus. The flexibility of the tray and the design is really heartening. So that is an aspect where I am really satisfied.

Now coming to the door panel. The refrigerator door panel contains removable egg trays, a dairy shelf, a special small item shelf and two extra deep bottle racks. Well, being a strict vegetarian, I don’t use the egg trays at all. The dairy shelf is in the ''OK'' category because it is not sturdy and I am not sure whether it can hold sufficient weight. The small item shelf is really very small. All that it can accommodate is some chocolate and many a candy. The two extra deep bottle racks should have been one. What I have done is that, I detached one of the two and made it all right. With a unique deep door design, the fridge comes with a clean back. Though it looks good, the clean back only means that more heat is dissipated outside. Never touch the sides of the fridge. They would be as hot as anything thats inside the sun. That is because of the internal coiling. They say things like tropical cooling technology but I feel that is just one of their marketing bluffs.

To sum it up, I can say that the 185L Godrej Frostfree is not good at all. Though they have detachable trays, they are brittle and easily breakable. The space is too less and the cooling is not that very impressive. Hence minuses take over the pluses. Better stay away from this refrigerator. Later don’t repent when your mom scolds you. Personally, the Godrej Frostfree is not worth taking a look at. Thanks for reading.

Godrej Fridge - Worthy Enough ?
Aug 23, 2002 04:58 PM 11669 Views

What made us buy ?

Inorder to earn my bread & butter, I had to be in Goa for quite sometime. Since I stayed all by myself in a rented apartment, my girlfriend then (now my wife), used to get me some delicious recipies from her mom's kitchen. I needed space to preserve them and eat at leisure. She was after me to buy a fridge, now that we were about to settle down together too. Knowing that there was no escape, I humbly bowed to the Your wish is my Command, afterall I wanted to prove myself as a good natured husband :-). Off we set on a hunting spree across town in all the exclusive showrooms of BPL, Kelvinator, Samsung and ofcourse Godrej. We also made it a point to pay a visit to the local dealers inorder to mix-n-match and compare the various brands and their models side by side. We had narrowed down to the double door category since it was the latest in the market. For our requirement the 185 lts seemed appropriate. The BPL model was very good as far as space inside is concerned but the outer looks weren't appealing ... is this considered normal in guys :-). The Samsung model appeared a lot more bulkier for it's capacity. So, we zeroed upon this Godrej model, there was also another attraction ... good value for money. We were to get a 36 piece dinner set from LaOpala worth Rs.3000/- for free PLUS a scratch card(who knows we could be rich overnight !). Itch itch .. scratch scratch ... lo and behold ... we got ourselves a 6 cup coffee set again from LaOpala :-). Some gain for the Rs.16000/- we had put into it. This was way back in 1999.

Outstanding features !

The appearence is pleasant with one bald head, invisible neck, no arms, a rather plain body(no handles) and short and stout legs. We had chosen a grey coloured one. The odd thing was, it had five legs !!! ... an extra one for the door as it has a sizeable amount of space to stack away your day-to-day items and tends to gets heavy and hence needs support. During the normal operation, it makes it's presence felt by humming and so also when it draws power, the relay switch makes a loud noise.

Top Area : The top area is strictly the freezer compartment and should be used for stacking items desired for long term usage. These could include ice-creams, fruit-salads, dry-fruits and ofcourse un-cooked non-vegetarian flesh/meat. Formation of ice in the ice-cube-tray is a fast & easy process. Unlike in the earlier models, this compartment is fully of plastic and there are no traces of steel. The door area has place holders to keep small sized containers (store-aways), and we normally use it to keep masala/sambar powder packs, cashew-nuts and so also Nescafe bottle. The coffee powder remains free-flow during it's entire life time. There is absolutely no frost built-up ... thanks to the frost-free techology which keep us away from the weekly chores of throwing away the water collected at the bottom tray in the older versions.

Lower Area : This is the general compartment and has 4-5 sub-compartments(depends upon how you want to re-structure it). The first one amongst them is the chiller, basically a semi-transparent plastic tray useful to store away milk packets and milk products(cheese, butter etc). The next 3 metal grill-trays are for storing away prepared food/leftovers in vessels/dishes etc. The bottom most is semi-transparent plactic box to store away fruits and vegetables. A small container which fits into this box could be used to store tomatoes(or delicate fruits) without the fear of them getting squashed. This box has a plastic striped tray to cover it's top and can be used as a platform to keep light-weighted fruits and/or extra vessels.

Door Area : This requires a special mention as it provides significant amount of space. You could store here almost anything you could think of from beverage(juices, drinks, concentrates) to ketchups/sauces, water bottles, eggs(upto 18), lemons, chocolates and daily frequent requirements in the kitchen including vegetables. There is also a small container provided especially for the little ones at home called the Junior's Corner. All these gadgets can be dismantled and re-arranged for one's needs. This also helps during the occasional cleaning, leading to the good health of the fridge.

Experiences :

  1. A good stabilizer is recommended, we have a V-Guard(Rs.1100/-).

  2. The sides of the fridge get warm/hot and this is normal during the operation of the fridge. However keep the temperature setting to the optimal level (climate dependent)as per recommendations in the Operation Manual.

  3. Vegetables stay healthy for a longer duration provided you stack them in a polyethylene bag with some breathing holes. Ofcourse some need to be air-tight !.

  4. Food(heated/cooked) needs to be brought to the normal room-temperature before stacking away in the fridge. This also helps save electricity.

  5. In the past 3 years, we had to change the bulb(220 V, 15 W) thrice. I really donot understand why it gets burnt. This feature is mostly observed in Godrej.

  6. Frequent transportation(in case of transfers) should be avoided. Shifting our frigde from Goa to B'lore made us shell out to replace our thermostat.

  7. Service here in B'lore is indeed very prompt and good. Just call up the customer service center at Kasturba Road and you are sure to have the serviceman at your house within 24 hrs.

  8. There are better ones in the market today ... you should do a survey of your own.

Mr. Freeze…
Aug 03, 2002 03:28 AM 11011 Views

Buying any home appliances or electrical items is a rare event in our lives. Meaning at the most how many times you would buy a Fridge or a Television or even a Mixer in your lifetime, maximum 5-6 times. Reasons may be cost of the product, durability, reluctance for change or even because not many improvements, enhancement in the new product. The point is these purchases are once in a lifetime kind of thing. I may be exaggerating but one has to take in to consideration lot of factors before buying a Refrigerator for instance. With features of Godrej 230 Ultra Double Door Refrigerator explained below, you can trust me on buying this dependable, useful and lovable product.

Color: Red

Features

Deep Freezer

Being double door the upper small compartment is for Deep Freezer. That brings us an advantage of mini cold storage. A wire tray helps to organize all food items in a better way and utilize maximum space of the section. Ice Cream, Ice-Cubes, Meat, Poultry, Fish and even masalas can be stored in the freezer. Of course for instant chill, ice cubes you can always check out other brands and also be ready to spend more.

Clean Back Design

Though this is a common feature these days but it almost scared me out. The refrigerator has been designed using ‘Hotwall’ technology. The sides of refrigerator become warm (frankly, hot) when it is on. But this is normal. Being oblivious of the fact in the beginning I thought I got a faulty product. But soon I was told about it. When humidity is high the condensation takes place and there could be some water gathered on the faces of sidewalls or top of the fridge. So it becomes important to keep your fridge clean from outside as well as inside since walls could get fungus or stains. So clean back design doesn’t just mean back of the refrigerator is clean of any coils or wires but you also need to keep it clean. Though this is inevitable in all similar products in high humidity atmosphere. Some clean vendor provides us some we need to.

Humidity Control

This panel can be adjusted to control the humidity in the large and convenient vegetable tray called Crisper. Generally fruits require low humidity than vegetables. So humidity panel can be adjusted for fruits to open up and closed for vegetables.

Design

Design involves uniform cooling in every section of the refrigerator. This ultimately preserves foodstuff for longer time and keeps them fresh.

Some other fridge has a five side cooling technology. It doesn’t matter to me as long as I am getting cool, fresh and eatable food items out of fridge.

Defrosting

Well-defrosted refrigerator is an efficient refrigerator. Excess frost acts as an insulator (cooling wise) and restricts the cooling effect there by increasing power consumption.

Whatever the science says defrosting is always a headache since it blocks most of the space in freezer and just doesn’t look good. Also cleaning up manually takes hell lot of time from switching of to the time till the stubborn mule completely melts down. Then wipe the whole compartment dry and then start from zero. So Auto defrosting becomes a necessity. The demand is not fulfilled in this one. You must manually defrost the freezer. The cabinet has cyclic defrost.

Preservation Of Food

Problem of odors overpowering is common in refrigerators. It’s not that food begins smelling strongly but it is concentrated or intensified in the small space with no way for ventilation (a fridge with ventilators!!!). There was one humorous add don’t remember the name of product, may be Whirlpool) in which power goes off and family is left to remove food items from it. Each time they smell the item, recognize it and pass it on to other. Everything turns out to be different than smelled. They have tried to address this odor problem. In this case you can get over the problem by little (??) care. Put all cooked items in to covered containers (that we anyway do). All strong odor things should be covered either in polythene, aluminum foil or kept in covered containers. Now it’s up to you to find out all odorous food items.

Flexible Interior

Half-shelf gives the flexibility of storing big, tall bottles. It can also be removed for convenience. Crisper has a separator, which can be used to store soft items such as tomatoes. Twin egg rack can store up to 16 eggs and can also be detached to store small half liter bottles (like that of Pepsi and Coca Cola).

Other

Finally it has a reversible door facility to suite your interior of house. You have the choice of either a left-opening or right-opening refrigerator door. And hey you can do it at home yourself.

I just can’t imagine what these companies can come up with. I would suggest not to get carried away by this extra feature, just stick to basics and you get your money counted. So far this product has not given me any problem and gave expected results.

The oldest indian brand, reliable, durable, our first fridge lasted for 20 years, naturally when we needed a new one ,we went for godrej, this model is spacious, good for a nuclear family.priced reasonaly, in your budget,at the same time giving you all the benefits you expect in a refrigerator

single door,so needs lesser space as double doors are very tall ,autodefrost, easier to clean ,cools fast, defrosts fast ,less power used, tabletops easier to clean.. nice colours to blend with the decor in your kitchen, now using for the lat eight years ,only once we needed to call the maintenence sell, when the ice chamber door became lose, that is the only problem in this fridge the door is weak, and if frost has formed it is difficult to open

Ts been almost 3 years since, my Godrej Frost-free refrigerator has given me trouble-free service (touch wood!!!!!) Even if it did, according to the Godrej Company, they have a Godrej dealer almost in every district in the country who have service reps.

This Godrej Frost-Free refrigerators of mine is a 260lt, double door, fully automatic and self draining machine. Insulated with polyurethane foam with capacity (freezer– 77lt and fridge – 183lt) thus making it a combined total of – 260 lt. This also includes 2 ice trays, and a crisper cover for storage, which is a must in all fridges generally. One of the most self- observed features is the non-existence of a slide and fold shelves in other fridge’s, which the Godrej Frost-Free refrigeratorsboast of, giving the flexibility even to my tall beer mugs….(Hic!)

Also are 2 egg trays, a quick freezing corner and 2 bottle shelves conveniently stilt for ease of use. Another important aspect is that the Godrej Frost-Free refrigerators has a frost free fan cooled which is a forced convection design to provide uniform cooling in every section of the fridge.

Another special small item shelf is neatly tucked away, that usually provides me for some handy additional space for small items, my hangover pills that I get from my tall beer mugs…Hic!!! Other common features are the dairy shelf for storing butter, cheese, chocolates etc. The reason why I bought this fridge was simply for the one who never had to ruin a Sunday afternoon sitting and defrosting the entire fridge. One never has to defrost the Godrej Frost-Free refrigerators as it is designed to defrost itself completely and automatically.

The cyclic defrost ensures that the fridge automatically defrosts itself 2-3 times a day, by a defrost heater during the defrost cycle. During this cycle, the fridge is off for sometime, after which it restarts. Defrost water drains into the collector pan through the drainpipe, from where it evaporates automatically.

Caution: One important point they note is to never refreeze already thawed food, especially red meats, becoz it reduces the quality of the food considerably.

Also don’t be alarmed at the heat on the sides of the fridge, like I was and almost did called the fire brigade. It is absolutely normal and is due to the condenser and it helps prevent condensation from taking place.

Important Tip for any refrigerator :

When humidity is high condensation may take place, just wipe with a dry cloth. That’s all!! In general, keeping the external surfaces of the fridge dry is important. In humid weather, as is the kind of environment in a kitchen, which includes fumes from cooking, the surfaces can be moist. This can lead to fungus formation and fungus spots are known to lead to rusting in the area. If ignored the same can also become kinda greasy, which can develop into stains that are stubborn and further encourage growth of fungus spots.

Thus, regular wiping for any fridge is very essential. The lower edge front of the cabinet as well as the bottom surface of the door are important locations requiring regular wiping. Otherwise there is a risk of rust formation on the surfaces despite the powder coated/pre-coated finish.

Godrej Frost Free refrigerators is a quality product (atleast mine is), very thoughtfully designed to meet ones needs and manufactured with great care to give many a years of service and is just like any dependable member of the family.

Flimsy parts of a whole

I picked up this fridge going by the Godrej name.

Its efficiency is just about average. The downer is that the plastic parts ( the trays, side cavities etc) are made of cheap material and crack & break within a few weeks to months. I feel this fridge will sell better if they improve the looks and use better quality trays and bins

Spacious and comfortable to use

We did not wish to go in for a big, double door fridge, since ours is a small family. So after going through all types of makes, we decided on the Godrej single door, but a ''Deep Door '', auto-frost of 215 Ltrs. We realised that although the size was just 215Ltrs., it was indeed very spacious inside...also the Deep Door was deep enough to hold a lot of things. The Crisper(veg. box), at the base, was well-designed , compartmentalised , for easy usage.

We have had no problems with this model. Only one thing, it's sides get really very hot at times, but the literature warns the customer, that this is absolutely normal with this machine. So, we have no complaints.

The model is neither too small or big. Just right and comfortable for a small family.

Godrej products need to improve

I have used a 260 L Frost free Godrej refrigerator for the last two years. It has functioned reasonably well as far as refrigeration is concerned. However it needs a fair amout of improvement:

  1. The quality of plastic containers is poor. They break/crack very easily and you do not have warranty for such parts.

  2. The compressor is noisy and can be heard even at a distance of 20 mts.

  3. Power consumption is on the higher side, the manual does not give the buyer an idea as to what would be the power consuption and various loads.

  4. Godrej enginner not present for installation, the delivery boys only installed the equipment. It would be approprate if the power sockets are checked before installation and user given tips on how to control various parameters like temp and humidity. The defrost water collects in a container behind the equipment under the compressor, its difficult to remove it and clean. If uncleaned for long periods especilly during humid weather it begins to stink

These little things can make the product better.
