Review on Godrej GFE 220S ,double door, Gross Volume 200L


There is no place where I can submit review for Godrej GFE 220S. I purchased a double door grey coloured Godrej GFE 220S , Serial No : 00028339 2A37 refrigerator having marking Gross Volume 200L from e-Zone electronics ,Jayanagar , Bangalore in last week of June, 2006.


I had observed the piece kept in display and I enquired whether fresh stocks are available and they said they have enough and would give me a fresh piece rather than the one kept in display.


Next day when the refrigerator was delivered the damaged /defective pice with a minorcrack in handle was delivered. I demanded that the same be changed and when the next piece is brought requested them to take the damaged piece back.


I had not been using the refrigeratyor and waited for my turn.


Even after one week no action was taken.


I also informed the Godrej Service Centre, no one ever cared for all the trouble and breach of trust I had gone through from the dealer. NEVER BUY GODREJ ANY MODEL is my sincere advise.


Those who take this advice are well protected others SUFFERor discover later about BAD SERVUCE.


Let the top brass in GODREJ know about this.

I made the mistake of buying a GODREJ Pentacool GF28. It required two 'sensor 'replacements, one 'PCB'(printed circuit board) change and another 'Gas charge' within the first year of usage.


When it again broke down and its service personnel suggested another 'sensor 'change (the third time!!) and it was still within the first year warranty period, I repeatedly requested the company for either a refund or a replacement. They first tried to mislead me and then outright ignored my request.


I wrote to the consumer 'CORE' team. GODREJ dismissed their appeal as well.


Next step would be to go to the court; due to lack of time I cannot manage that, hence I would request all to be aware of buying any GODREJproduct. It is a company which does not respect its customers and should die off.


If any one is interseted, I have all letters and documents related to the above in my possession.


I will continue to write of this exploitation in all available forum. If the reader is aware of any other similar site please write to me at dr.sarkar@yahoo.com

When I bought this refigrator I never thought it will be so much of beneficial to me in all respect.


Even though nobody told me about the qualities of this product, but I know the reputation of godrej and its sales and services. I saw this refigrator in the television add and at that instinct I thought this is what I m searching for.


This fridge is the best of all. Even it had very little damage on the 26/6. It is very easy to use and it consumes less electricity compare to others. The most important part of it is the space given inside and it is very much spread so that each and every item if you keep in the fridge it will get the cooling. The height, the indicators, the cooling, the systems and very much systematic, thats make it very easy to use.


I give my full marks to it.


The service support which I have received during the warranty period and after the warranty period is very satisfactory.


At present my fridge is 4 years old but if u see it you will say "wow ! you got a new Fridge". Thats what I called "Paisa Wasool".

Godrej Refigerator - 300 litres - Single Door

I had a Godrej 230 litres double door refrigerator which I bought in 1993. I recently exchanged this for a Godrej 300 litres single door Cold Gold, Direct Cooling model with ZOP technology (whatever that means!). We are vegetarians, and we found that the freezer compartment of a double door frig is grossly underutilised. A single door frig is in that way more useful for us. Secondly, I am told that a double door frig consumes more electricity than a single door one. So I hope that my electricity bill amount will come down!


I made a comparison with Whirlpool, Samsung, and some others and decided on continung with Godrej as a brand because I have found that Godrej service is pretty prompt and good (in Bangalore). Their advice is also devoid of commercial considerations, so they don't give me advice just to buy something because they can sell. Also, Godrej is probably the only one to have a direct cooling, single door model in 300 litres capacity.


The delivery was prompt. I have been using the frig now for a fortnight and am more than satisfied. I have no doubts on their service since my experience with Godrej has been good.

I bought the following from Godrej & Boyce Mfg.Co.Ltd, Jayanagar, Bangalore.

It was about Rs.50,000/- purchase and they didn’t give any discount but promised quality product.


The shoe cabinet is due since 20 days and all the time I am getting ‘on the way’ reply. And what about the other items I already received?


Each and every item has at least one complaint. Queen cot’s one pipe a little up and the bunk cot came with a dent. The dining table’s design part became plain in some area, two chairs came with cracks, then scratches, coffee table not sitting properly etc etc….Not even a single item with zero complaint!!


I made a complaint with the showroom. They said somebody will attend next day (since it being Saturday, somebody will call me on Monday). I got a call from ‘somebody’ about 6 Pm and said he can come only by 5.30! So, I asked him to come between 5 and 7 next day, and he replied ‘No Sir’ and disconnected!!! Can you believe it? He didn’t give me any chance to ask why he is unable to come (coz, for me, 5.30 falls between 5 and 7) nor at what time should I wait for him or even his name…


But I waited for him between 5 and 8 PM next day. Nobody even bothered to give me a call. So, next day I personally went to the showroom and told them what has happened. They promised me that they will send somebody that day itself. But nothing happed till evening. So, I called them again and the reply was somebody will call me next morning, again they fooled me.


Then I checked the Telephone Directory. Could not believe, so checked the web site, it was true, THERE IS NO CUSTOMER CARE. But if you want you can mail to webmaster, most probably a web technology person managing the Godrej website!!!


I never expected such a thing from a well reputed company. ( I had some problems with my Philips home theatre, 6 months ago and I saw what Customer Care is all about, it is to be noted that even a book shop like Sapna Book House cares for their customers, and they did reply to my doubts)…..


I just could not believe it. Since I was moving to a new apartment, I needed some more furniture, this time I took the right decision, NO GODREJ…. (Went to Stylespa, reasonable price and prompt service…..no complaints, so far). I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND A GODREJ PRODUCT else be prepared to go to Consumer Court, like me.

We were having Godrej Refrigerator in our family. I wish to give some positive and negative aspects of the above Fridge and the Company.


Godrej by Brand and Company commands excellent reputation in India.


But the Higher Management is not taking any serious steps as to how to grasp more share in the Market. That is by way of visiting the individual Customers through the base they are maintaining through their Offices and Dealers.


About an year ago their Marketing Team invited me in Salt Lake on a Roadside Show


and assured that they would be giving me free Service if I own a Godrej Fridge and shall send a Team to your place to inspect your Fridge. I wasted 30 minutes of my precious time in my LIFE to give Customer Base of about 30 people whom I knew owning Godrej Fridge and I was also foolish enough to inform my relatives that Godrej People would be calling you over the phone number I had provided to the Marketing Team. TILL NOW THE CALLS YET TO COME.


The Compressor in the Fridge also give out blaring noise and especially we feel disturbed in the Night during the sleep.


Ultimately in In Laws sold out the Godrej Fridge and brought Electrolux recently after getting fed up With GODREJ.


IT IS HIGH TIME THAT THE TOP MANAGEMENT PULL THEIR SOCKS AND START WORKING ON THE ABOVE ASPECT.

Godrej should be the last choice for a discerning customer. They never respond to a message from a concerned customer who faces problem with their product. Such callous indifference seems very out of date nowadays. Are they some feudal lords, I wonder. I have problems with their Pentacool refrigerator. It is a noisy gadget. It heats up horribly when switched on after a break of a few hours. Bad choice. It is hightime that such highhanded market players be put to their place. I wonder how they are able to compete with International players! Or is it that Godrej is a decadent ailing concern? They dont even provide a specific user manual. It would have been good if they stuck to their old lock and key business. You will have to cavil at them to complete 150 words. Bad thing it is. This ugly bulky thing on which I spent more than 10,000 is getting on my nerves. I am thinking of initiating a criminal case against for cheating. Isn't that enough?


Bad, dirty, ugly, thing. Never get such a thing to your home!

Excellent service .


Bought the fridge 1-1/2 years ago. Glass was broken at time of delivery.


Customer service replaced the glass though it took some time.


The after sales service is good . It takes some time but service is good.


The vegetable are remaining fresh as the vegetables box has a special sealed glass cover.


Good for storing forzen food as the freezer compartment is very large. But if not using frozen foods then do not go for this model.


Called the service guys who said the glas beads are not in stock. Then after a month the item was available in stock and promptly replaced.


The company is providing good after sales service though it takes some time to procure the parts.


Buy this model only if using lot of forzen food items otherwise go for a different model. If not using the freezer for frozen food then using it just for ice is a waste of space.

I brought Godrej 165 lts Classic in New Delhi for Rs.6400 in 1992. Been going steady for 13 years. Never thought of replacing it as my family is small and vegetarian; this one caters to our needs.


Actually this is not “auto-defrost” model in the strict meaning of the term as used by modern refrigerators. Whenever we see the red-marker inside the freezer compartment covered by snow, we have to press the de-frosting button and allow the freezer compartment to defrost and manually dispose the melted water which falls into the ‘chiller” tray. This is one disadvantage of this model when compared to the modern models, which do real auto-defrosting (the melting of ice and removal of water is automatic).


Another disadvantage I have noticed in this model is it is very fussy about the “leg” positions. If all the 4 leg-stands are not properly fixed in a strict horizontal position (one may have to use a spirit-level to adjust), the door of the refrigerator does not lock properly in place (magnetic lock), making a small gap.


I remember this model was the first PUF type model which came in the market at that time of purchase. I have not done any major repairs on this product for 13 years of use. Once the door of the freezer compartment came loose and I have to fix it. If the ice formation is high, the door of the freezer does not close properly. I transported this refrigerator from Delhi to Palakkad and then to Chennai during my transfers and it worked coolly in all environments. I have never connected any special voltage stabilizer for this refrigerator for 13 years and the compressor has been working happily. As time goes by the noise of the compressor increases and I feel the noise more than that of 13 years ago. I have never experienced unpleasant odours taken by the machine, may be because we never store any non-vegetarian food in it. A weekly de-frosting and wash of all the trays is the only maintenance needed. Never noticed any high energy consumptions at any times. Sometimes the de-frosting has to be done twice a week during summers in Chennai when the humidity around is very high.


Overall I am very satisfied with my refrigerator.

I purchased the Godrej Champion 170L Champion for Rs 7,200/- about two years ago and have been using it everyday since then. I was living alone and merely wanted a no-frills refrigerator.


The refrigerator was shipped over to my apartment in a good cardboard casing along with the warranty card, user manual and a plastic stand. From the outside the fridge looks attractive. The finishing on the exterior is also good.


Overall the Godrej Champion serves its purpose well as a bare-bones refrigerator . However there are few things which I do not like about it:




  • The attached power chord is really very short. (Were they really trying to cut costs here?) It could not reach the power plug which was just about 5 feet from the floor. Don't be tempted to cut the power chord and extend it. Doing this will void the warranty of the fridge (as with most other electrical equipments). Hence I was left with no option but to extend the electrical wiring on the wall and move the switch board lower. I really think the designers have been unreasonably miserly on this one.




  • The baffle tray (the tray under the freezer) is quite flimsy. Its made of a soft plastic material and bends quite easily. I used to stock a 1 litre bag of milk in the baffle tray. In a few days time, the tray bent. Due to this bend, the tray now slips out from the plastic-channels (which are supposed to hold the tray in place). So it is often that the tray comes crashing down inside the refrigerator, whenever you keep anything on it.




  • Even the grilled partitions inside the refrigerator are kinda flimsy. They are not made strong enough.




  • The freezer is not made of a rigid material either. Over the two years I have noticed a bend in two of the sides of the freezer. This bend, was caused due to the expansion of ice between the freezer and the outer wall of the fridge.




  • The tray for vegetables at the bottom fits loose inside its slot. This leaves a slight gap even when the tray is entirely pushed inside.






My guess is that this machine might be functionally perfect for several years to come. But in about 4 to 5 years some of the things inside the cabin might fall apart.


To sum it up,




  • Functionally it is a good refrigerator.




  • Looks are attractive.




  • The components inside (accessories) are not very robust.




  • Operationally it sounds quite. (Like the usual hum produced by most refrigerators.)






If you want something to use for a couple of years (say 3 to 6 years) and later throw it away, this would be a good buy. If you are expecting your refrigerator to last for 10 to 15 years then I would not suggest you to buy this one.


BEWARE OF THE GODREJ TRADEMARK

Well a few of our readers may be aware that Godrej has embarked into the fruits, vegatable, milk products business by launching small retail stores named as Natures Basket. There is one such store situated at Bhulabhai desai road opposite the Mahalaxmi temple.


If the quality of produce being sold is an active indicator of the quality that Godrej offers at the retail consumer level then it sure is an indicator of the extremely poor quality culture in the house of Godrej


The fruits and vegatables sold are absolutely rotten and when I say rotten it means rotten. The onions are rotting on the shelves and no action is taken to make amends by replacing the stock with a edible one. This becomes more glaring when the quality is pointed out to the managers and staff. The answer one gets is that there is no good quality to replenish. Well then may I ask why feed people with rotten stuff.


Fruits like papaya are overripe and extremely soft.


These are case in points and you could well imagine the state of affairs if one had to inspect each and every produce that is sold in thier store.


Well if this is the case of affairs of the Godrej outlet where it meets the consumer directly in the eye then may I ask what could be the state of affairs and quality control in all the industries managed by them where the consumer does not get to see the manufacturing.


If they can cheat a customer on health grounds so blatantly and egoistically one needs to only imagine the Going ons and attitude within the House of godrej and the culture that the promoters are Imbibing in the organisation


All I can say that beware of the trademark Godrej and dont trust it at its face value.

Well I would write a review if the thing worked but it is blowing hot air. I like the multitudes of vents in the lower compartment. It keeps the fruits and vegetables in a stale and fresh condition and blows the smell out. There is also a fan and vent in the top compartment so as to keep the fish warm and non-smelly... Yes we called them and they came and took a look at it and left saying well its a new model and they dont know how to operate it. We have asked them to replace it but they said they need to call the VP or someone to get permission. But since godrej sales and vp's do NOT carry Cell phones only their gardeners and security guards carry them and he is on tour trying to sell more of these crap, we are out of luck... For the past week... Well the brand spanking new fridge also has a visible distinguishing mark, they put a big dent and scrapped paint on the right side of the lower door. Which we could have done without. Now we have lost a whole weeks worth of food but dont worry, we will get a brand spanking new one which works as soon as those guys in-charge gets a hold of some telecommunication equipment to communicate with their regional sales centers. My choice would have been some cheap Korean stuff in the first place since they at least have learned about customer care and customer convenience. Its like you cant live without an appliance and the faster they get it fixed/replaced the better since we have now come to a point where we cant live without their use. UPDATE: Well after 10 days they replaced it with a new one and this one seems to work fine but the initial bad service and unresponsiveness caused bad feelings. The main problem seems to be that it is too big. Maybe due to experience in not making large appliances, there are problems since my parents love godrej so much, they bought a smaller version of the same thing also which seems to work much much better in even cooling than the larger brother. Both seems to be working fine. Like most products, it is when a problem develops that you notice the company at all. Other wise if it works okay, you think its a great product form a great company. The after sales service defines how satisfied you will be with the product. In this regard Godrej really needs to improve if they want to compete with MNC's. We did not have many choices before an dhad to accept what we got. But this dont work in europe or the US. And soon it wont work in India either.


PS edit after 4 years... This fridge is a power monger. I could not understand why my electric bill was so high. So when I moved I did not take it with me and bought a new samsung 4 star smaller fridge. My elec bill is half what I was paying before. I also have 2 AC's. My elec bill is still lower. I did not have an AC at the old place and thats the only difference. The rest of my elec usage is similar. But I use the AC's a lot and if 2 of them cost me less to use than 1 fridge???? This must be one of those wonder -5 STAR rated ones.

I happened to have the misfortune of buying a Godrej 2-door, GF-32 Model refrigerator from Sumaria, Thane in the year 2002. The salesman told me the product was export quality and large quantities were being exported and I fell to his glib talk.


But I had the niche feeling - a Godrej product is always reliable, consistent and longevity. Armed with this I okayed it. But alas, I cannot imagine a Godrej product falling to dismal standards in terms of sturdiness, reliability.


Within days of purchase the bulb got konked off. Worse to follow the handle came off, I think the assembly line did a shoddy job. I had to temporarily stick it with fevikwik. The storage trays cracked one by one, now my fridge is having only three levels. I was told by the mechanic that trays were not available and worse the model has been discontinued.


The auto drain heater got spoiled and after several reminders the same was replaced at a cost. The rubber biddings are all revealing gaps providing the insects and cockroaches the much needed opening. Tell me how am I use this fridge. In India a fridge is supposed to be a big investment , we tend to use our fridges for years together and it use to work that way. My request is give a sturdy quality - after all remember a product is known by its name for quality. T.S.Mani


Worst Fridge From Godrej

Hi All,


I am facing a real nightmare after purchasing this product. Its costing around Rs.25000, and compared to all other leading brands like LG, Samsung, and Whirlpool, in the category of 410 litre capacity, this is the worst refrigerator to buy.


First I purchased this product on the 27th of July, and the Shop where I inspected and selected this product, M/s Vivek Lts, told me that the piece which I had selected for delivery is having some manufacturing defect and hence will not be able to delivery the fridge on the agreed date.


2 days later on they delivered me the Godrej Frost Free GF -21 model, and after a week its cooling went down and I called their service center and told them its not cool enough, even when I set the temperature to max and also Frost started forming in the refrigerator.


Then the manager replaced that model with a brand new one, and again this one is also having the same problems. Now I have written mails to Senior Staff of Godrej Appliances and also complained to M/s Vivek Ltd, yet my problem still persists, and I regret badly by sinking in such a huge amount of money in this product, which does not as any quality and the godrej service is absolutely lousy.


Every day morning, we wake up to find that Frost that has got accumulated in the fridge has melted, resulting in water overflow on the floors, and I had buy Cleaning mops to clean the water accumulated on the floor. I think this is what godrej calls as Frost Free.


Please do not go for this product, since I really doubt the abilities that are mentioned in the brochure of this product.


Please be carefull, do not buy this product, since I have suffered badly in this, and I want to educate people on this product and quality of after sales service offered by Godrej.

I am one of the hapless customers who had put faith on the reputation and competence of Godrej company to manufacture good quality refrigerators which run without any trouble, life long. I decided to purchase one . First the fan motor got burnt and then the cooling gas leaked out. On first occasion, Godrej technician replaced the fan motor and in second instance they have refilled the gas. The fridge is presently in working condition, but it?s cooling effect has substantially reduced, may be because of the difference in gas pressure between a factory filled gas and a home filled gas. Whatever may be the reason, this sort of major problems show poor quality of the equipment and inadequate quality control at manufacturing stage. I had lodged complaint to Mr.P. D. Lam, Executive Director & President and chairman of Godrej, but the company has not taken any concrete step like replacement of defective machine with a new one or appraises me about the real problem except sending one technician from their Delhi branch and sending one apology letter from their plant customer care department. As regards my machine, I am not at all hopeful of any solution as after a couple of months, the warranty period will be over and liability of company will cease. Then I have to depend only on destiny for future functioning of the machine.

On the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi, the company is giving offer to deceive common people by giving very nice advertisement in the paper, I suggest you people not to ever think of buying Godrej Penatacool. The service provided by this people is pathetic, it is worst. I had buyed a godrej pentacool GF 28, 260 litre refrigerator few month back. There is a leak of air from the refrigerator as it is no full air tight, which we realize after a month, we call for a service man who just came to visit us I feel so as he did not do any thing telling that it is company make and it will happen. we again called for the service man and the same thing happen. I do not understand what for he is paid for? To visit the customer and show his face. Take my words. You should not repent after buying it as I am doing.

2>Good quality polycarbonate trays and the comfortable ice twisting trays.EVen if some liquid spills in the fridge it wont percolate in the lower trays


3>More space in refriegation and less in freezer


4>ideal for a 4-5 member family.


5>makes a bit of noise but it can be safely ignored.The noise is limited within the kitchen


6> Its got a Quick Freeze Corner section which is the coldest chamber in the refrigerator, It is meant for all food items which have to be cooled immediately.


7> got castors so that you move it very easily anywhere


8> Seperate cooling controls for freezer and refrigerator


9> Pentacool looks a class apart. Its unique '' Eye Design'' door handle enhances its image and is easier to grip as well.


10> got magic eye which indicates power, compressor and earthing


I had considered whirlpool as an alternate to this fridge but there are lot of complaints about whirlpool .The other brands have more percentage for the freezer

GD 22 PentaCool Model

Any of you going in for the single door Models of Godrej PentaCool please check the shelves on the Door Panel. If they are removable it is good, but the above GD 22 (210 Litre) model that we bought has these shelves Permanently snapped into the door Panel because of a projecting Lug in the Door inside PAnel design.


As a result, Spillage and food crumbs which get trapped between the door Panel and these transparent Shelves are very very difficult to Clean.


Repeated COmplaints to the Service Personnel at Godrej has proved no good. They conclude that the design is such and other Model have easily removable Shelves.


Complaints (by email) to the BOmbay Office solicited no Response so far


There are no other functional complaints, but the above Point and lack of response from the Company is worth Considering in choosing your brand

Bought a GF22 (215 L) Pentacool fridge four days ago. At first sight, looks elegant and on the inside, has a lot of room in the main compartment. Reason being that the freezer is only 38L (for people who need a large freezer, this one is a no-no) which leaves 177L for the main compartment. That is more space than the Whirlpool 230 Elite that I was comparing it with. Couple of things to know:




  1. The rear compressor compartment cover is really badly designed. There are a couple of body screws that jut out at places which cause a gap between the cover and the fridge body. This is just a aesthetic detail though.




  2. The EARTHING indicator on the front panel is really dim, and gives the impression of not being ON even when there is proper earthing (we asked the technician to visit since we did not see the light when we switched it on.).

I had purchased a Godrej Pentacool refrigerator about nine months before. All the products kept in the refrigerator get damaged within two three days. On complaint the refrigerator was replaced .Still the problems persisted in the replaced one. Again on complaint the refrigerator was repaired. but still the problem remains . All the goods kept in the Godrej Pentacool refrigerator gets rotten within two-three days. We have tried setting up of temperature levels by various ways but all our efforts are going in vain


The service engineers of Godrej are also finds themselves helpless in solving the problem . we have incurred loss every day. We also requested them to replace the Pentacool refrigerator with a another product of Godrej refrigerator but they are not agreeing for that.
