Wow! I love Preiti Zinta very much. She is damn cute! No wonder, Godrej found that she with her cute-n-naughty looks can work wonder for their cool product - The Godrej Pentacool series of refrigerators. I also liked the advertisement that showed a neighbouring kid bringing an ice-cream for Preiti but it is all melted and then she keeps the milkshakes in her Pentacool and there it is icecream again - in a jiffy! Very well advertised.
My sister wanted a new refrigerator at her place in Mulund and she knows that the right person to help her out, is her own brother - Me! ''Ameet does have a lot of general awareness and I think we consult him'', is what she tells her hubby who has the expensive foreign makes in mind. But I am sure with Achougoo's guide on MS, even Msians agree that I have an upper hand. (Ok yes, I admit that I sound very much like Reggie from Archies). I told them to walk in the shop and just look at the Godrej Pentacool and pick the 235L model, which would suit them just fine. They went and had a look at different models. Her hubby was particularly impressed by the LG and Whirlpool make, but eventually they landed up buying the Godrej Pentacool GF 24 (235L), just what I told them to. And mind you, this is not just a co-incidence! If you would like to know the reasons, just read along.
«« IT STANDS TALL AMONGST COMPETITION »»
I mean more in literal sense. The fridge looks very tall and slim. Then again it does not have any protruding handles. It has a notch like arrangement similar to my Kelvinator Mastercool. The 2-door model has a big freezer and a surprisingly spacious cooling compartment. The vinyl pre-coating is scratch proof and also glistens beautifully. It can be wiped clean - that simple. The coils are hidden well along the sides and are not visible. The fridge also comes with anti-rust measures.
«« ULTRA SPACIOUS »»
The fridge looks compact from outside. Open that door and you are in for a surprise. Forget Penguins, it can house an entire Polar bear! It has not 3 or 4 but 6 shelves that divides the cabin ideally to house foodstuff, packets, and vessels of any size. But that's not all; there is an element of flexibility built in as it has different grooves, which adjusts the height of the shelves.
The shelves are not wire meshes, but acrylic trays. They look nice and strong though one can see a slight slag when a vessel is kept at the center. But it is spill proof. If you drop some liquid, there is no need to clean the entire fridge. Just remove the single tray and clean it. Easy on maintenance!
«« FREEZER »»
This is several times bigger than my 165L model. It has three sections.
1) The ice-making factory: The water-filled trays are kept in. The ice forms fairly quick. Just use the twist and turn knobs and the ice is collected in another tray, ready to serve.
2) Quick freeze corner: There is a special separate chamber at the right hand top side with separate cooling adjustments labeled 'A' to 'E' where 'E' is the coldest setting. So this is where Preiti and now my sister keep milkshakes and you have ice-cream in minutes.
3) The acrylic box: The rest of the space is for keeping other things that would be better freezed. But then there is a box that fills half the remaining space. You can choose to store ice-cream packs or some other meat/chicken/fish items that need not spread its smell to other items in the freezer or well...hmm...yummy...chocolates.
«« VEGETABLE TRAY »»
Like in most fridges, the vegetable tray is at the bottom. It is of acrylic. But then it has a separator to keep the fruits and vegetables separate - thoughtful, isn't it?
«« DOORS »»
The fact that it has 2 doors is a hint enough to know that it is frost-free. The freezer door has a shelf where my sister keeps Venky's Chicken nuggets. The main door has 4 shelves, too. The lowermost is meant for large 1.5 liter Cola sized bottles. Can house 3 such big bottles with 1 normal sized bottle. The shelf above is for normal sized bottles. The rack above it is meant for butter/cheese/masala packs and above that is a smaller shelf, largely meant for egg racks, which unlike my fridge are removable.
Psst! The door of this model also starts chiming if you keep it open for 2 minutes. So no lack of cooling, because of your absent mindedness.
«« MAGIC EYE »»
Nothing special here! Just that there are 3 LEDs that show when the fridge is ON, and compressor is working and whether earthing is proper.
«« COOLING »»
Godrej manufactures its own compressors and is well reputed and has large network in India (Mumbai at least). The compressor has a power saver feature that works silently in the background giving you the consistent and reliable cooling. It is also environment friendly and is CFC, HCFC and HFC free. Besides it has IntelliFlo cooling i.e. the vent is centrally located and has a 4-way split that directs the cool air in 4 directions to ensure uniform cooling. Then again it has humidity control arrangement to keep the vegetables fresher.
«« SO IT IS ALL PERFECT, THEN? »»
Well almost, but there are some features, which are missing. It does not have door-cooling system like LG has. Also the deodorizer is not there. And the fridge is fairly new and has not showed any signs of fatigue at all.
So which fridge suits your requirement and your purse as well? You know the answer right - make it the Godrej Pentacool G24.
