GOD FATHER
Jul 26, 2006 10:23 AM 2013 Views

God father - its not an english movie but the tamil movie everyone waits for the release. many suggested me to write the review in english rather than in tamil so iam writing this review in english , without having any dictionary near to me.

I will keep it simple with the numbers I like

1) Ilamai

Singers: Mohammad Aslam, Tanvi and Shalini Singh

Fast paced song ,make you tap your feet but I bet this song will fade out when the movie releases, who knows the film itself may fade out ( thats my personal opinion dont take serious about it). But I like the lyrics very much. It satrts like this

Hey...

Hello...

music plays in between.....

Hello...

Hello...

My favourite lyrics

"Iruvarin mathiyile irukkinra idaiveli muthangalil niraiyattume...

Idhayathin surukkangal ithalzhgalin isthiriyil marayattume.."

Translation : "Let the kisses occupy the space between you and me

Let the heart wrinkles be ironed out by lips "

Oh oh oh oh sophiya maalika fouziya oh oh yaashika... ( iam not calling ny body for help this is also part of the song ...must be lot many girls dancing with ajith..i too like to join him for the song )

2) Kaathril Oru vaarthai

Singers: S.P.Balasubramaniam, Sadhana Sargam and Reena Bharadwaj

This is a rustling number with asin and ajith doing romance in breeze. You are wondering how do I know that (i watched that video ) . At fist when I heard I dont like this too much and after the second and third time, its very pleasant to hear and also sleep -inducing one in the night time also.

Sadhana's first two emotional melodious lines and reena's “hey Hey sahibbah” on air, and the violin interruption in the middle with the soft keyboard playing in the background and suddenly S.P.B comes not in the movie but in the number singing “Snehidi ,snehidi ” - that means girlfriend.

Nice to hear before you go to sleep

3) Innisai

Singers: Naresh Iyer and Mahati Genre

Its a classical song starts slowly like alaipaayuthey song but picks up the pace with the female chorus chanting

'Achchil vaarthai padhumayum neeyay achchil kidakkum narvavum neeyay"

- please somebody translate this for me , I dont have any dictionarary

This song continues with ghatam , mridangam syncs , and even brings more bliss when naresh sings " eluvai ,eluvai"- (awake awake). Its a very good number and I like the remix number of it also very much .

3) Kamma Karaiyile

Singers : Naresh Iyer and Sowmya Genre

OoH wah OOOh Wah - number starts with an enlighting scream , moves with a rapid speed little different among the other numbers with impressive dhandiya style beats...Sowmya's high pitch takes this number to an entertaining one and makes you to hear again and again . this song creates an enjoying mood and a foot-tapping one should have a massive audience in the theatre.

I dont like to write on other songs which I dont like too much.

Few criticised that iam writing blogs and iam damn sure(oops abusive?) that I wrote a review here.

PS. : Mohan : Sometimes I think before I ink.

Thakur : is it lengthy enough

Jasmine : is it abusive-free

Just ink

An album for the masses!!!
Apr 21, 2006 04:50 AM 2023 Views

I have been a silent observer at mouthshut.com for quite some time. Finally, I picked up the courage to post my first review. And it gives me great pleasure to start with a A.R.Rahman album. I have been a big fan of ARR's music right from Roja to Rang De Basanti.

Some Information about the movie : This movie stars Ajithkumar (triple role) and Asin and is directed by K.S.Ravikumar with music by A.R.Rahman and lyrics by Vairamuthu. It has been in the making for almost 1.5 years now due to various financial problems. But all problems are sorted out and is expected to release soon.

Now coming to the music, the album consists of 6 songs and 3 remixes with a total of 9 tracks. Each song is of a different type and this shows Rahman's versatility.

1) Katril Oru Vaarthai - S.P. Balasubramaniam, Sadhana Sargam, Reena Bharathwaj

Nice melodious duet song!!! Starts off in a slow way and then picks up tempo. The chants of ''sahiba'' in between is catchy. I did'nt like this song initially but after a couple of listenings, I am hooked on to it!!!

Rating : 8.5 /10

2) Illamai - Aslam, Shalini, Tanvi

Fast paced peppy song!!!! Starts with sounds like ''Hey'' and ''Hello'' and there are a lot of other interesting sounds in the background if you listen carefully. This song is a fine example of the ''layers of music'' that Rahman uses in his songs. There is an echo effect when the singer sings the first couple of lines and this makes the song even more attractive. On the whole a fast catchy song - Sure hit among the youth!!!

Rating : 9/10

3) Ilamai (Remix) - Suresh Peters, Blaaze

Basically a remix of the Illamai song. Only part of the original track features in this remix. Nevertheless, a pretty good effort!!!

Rating 8.5/10

4) Innisai - Naresh, Mahathi

Easily my pick of the album!!! Awesome classical composition!!! The lyrics of this song are from Tamil literature (Mentioned by vairamuthu in one of the interviews) and so contains a lot of tamil words which we don't hear nowadays. Naresh Iyer is really a great find by Rahman and really excels in this song. Mahathi though has a smaller role, does her job to perfection. A great song by the maestro, which will be remembered for a long time.

Rating 10/10

5) Innisai (Remix) - Naresh, Mahathi

Almost the same as the original song except for a ''dappanguthu'' beat and a western music bit inserted in between. This seems to be a little incongruous with the mood of the song, but actually fits in pretty well!!!!

Rating 10/10

6) Innisai (Remix) - Mahathi, Saindhavi

Fantastic!!! This is a shorter version which has just the first part of the original song repeating a number of times. The background music that precedes the song is awesome!!!! Notice the change of beats towards the end, which shows Rahman's penchant for innovation. This is one song which I would like to hear again and again!!!!

Rating 10/10

7) Thottapuram - Kalpana, Sonu Kakar, Leon James, Peer Mohamad, Ranjith

A Fun Folk song!!! This is a novel attempt and has a lot of funny words as well as some telugu words. A small part of the song is sung by children and this makes the song even more attractive. The melodious tune, heavy beats and funny lyrics make it a really enjoyable song!!!

Rating 9.5/10

8) Kamma Karaiyil - Naresh, Sowmiya

Excellent kuthu song!!!! Rahman shows that he too can come up with the typical kuthu songs that we hear frequently in tamil movies. But it is done in his own style and is different. Starts of with sounds of ''Ooh Ah'' and then begins in a fast way with heavy beats in the background. The background music before the first interlude is just superb!!! This is the second song for naresh in this album and he shows his versatility by singing in a completely different voice.

Rating 9/10

9) Theeyil Vizhundha - A.R. Rahman

Beautiful pathos song!!! Sung by A.R.Rahman himself, this song basically talks about a son's love for his mother. Excellent singing and great lyrics!!! One aspect that I did'nt like is his high pitched singing part. He might have included this invoke the emotion necessary for this song. Nevertheless, a great song!!!

Rating 9.5/10

Overall, a pretty good album and a definite treat for his fans. It is not fair to compare this album with some of his classics like Roja, Dil Se, Alaipayuthey, Rang De Basanti etc, since this is a typical ''masala'' movie. Every song is of a different type and considering the limited scope that he has for experimentation, Rahman has definitely come up with fresh songs. I really wish that this album becomes a hit so that we can get to see more tamil projects from A.R.Rahman in the future.

<-- Rahman's Commercial n Tamil Way of Doin it-
Feb 22, 2006 03:36 PM 4478 Views

Godfather- an Ajith starrer- Lots of promos and lots of Hype -

Music by Rahman,8th wonder (as put up in the posters). How much did

Rahman deliver to K.S.Ravikumar? The audio is out after a troublesome span

of 2 years. After Listening to the audio of ''Godfather'', and started

writing this review was confused a bit whether to give it a three star or

a four star rating .Atlast Gave it a four star rating(wanted it to

be 3.5..forget it..there is no option)

After a series of period movies in hindi and a blockbuster Rang de

basanti, the audio seems to be totally for his tamil fans and commercial

ones. There are nine tracks on the whole including three remix

tracks.Lyrics penned by Vairamuthu.I'd have preferred the tracks to be in a rather

different order and probably that would have made my mind to rate it to

four stars.Fine lemme start telling about the tracks.

Ilamai(Remix),Illamai:

A track hat you can expect to be the top of the charts for its peppy-

racy style. With short rhythms and guitars backing, the song is a dance

number.Sung with pace by Suresh peters and Blaaze(a few rap bits) ,the

remix has quite the same rhythm ,but the humming tune becomes the song in

the latter(Sung by Aslam).

Kamma Karayil:

The least of the style you can expect from Naresh ,but certainly a

great delivery from him.The song is a folk styled rhtyhm based commercially

tuned ''Mass grabber''.That sentence may sound pretty odd,but a type of

song that has its presence in almost every tamil film nowadays. The

percussion has a lot of Rahman's trademark, but not the whole song.May be a

gradual creeper.

Kaatril:

The song starts as a melody sung by Sadhana and suddenly a lot of

backdrop chorus pour in chanting ''Sahiba'' and then mixes with the melody. The

real charm of the song is when S.P.Balu gets in.The Melody king makes

the stanzas a treat and tune grows on you on further listens. But I still

dint find the chorus too convincing.

Innisai(2 Remix),Innisai:

A Very Melodious classical piece,Very well rendered by Naresh(Year's

favourite of Rahman),Mahathi,Saindhavi. The chorus of this song unlike the

previous is a notable tune that appends to the classical dance

number. The interludes probably are situational that many may not appreciate

(the folk rhythm),But a different approach. And in one of the interludes we

can remember Bol Sajni's Alaap even. But that never hinders the

Beautiful rendition.

Thoothapuram:

We can say the track 'The Return of the chief cook'to the

kitchen .A high folk lore with typical south indian rhythms mixed well with

the voices of Kalpana,Leon James. The number is sure to make your feet

tap.The telugu mixed lyrics and the foot tapping number is certain to top

the charts along with the following number.

Theeyil:

My pick of the album.Sung gracefully by the master himself, the pathos

is a treat to hear. The songs interludes haunt you and so does rahman's

voice in the stanzas.Ther track stands out in the album as a number that

totally satisfies you.A real stunning tune that creeps in to your

heart.

A.R.Rahman almost tries everytime not to dissapoint his masses and

always has something in store and ''Godfather'' is one of his albums you

cannot really relish on, but sure to take your feet off the ground. But certainly not a soul-stirrer.
