Godfather- an Ajith starrer- Lots of promos and lots of Hype -
Music by Rahman,8th wonder (as put up in the posters). How much did
Rahman deliver to K.S.Ravikumar? The audio is out after a troublesome span
of 2 years. After Listening to the audio of ''Godfather'', and started
writing this review was confused a bit whether to give it a three star or
a four star rating .Atlast Gave it a four star rating(wanted it to
be 3.5..forget it..there is no option)
After a series of period movies in hindi and a blockbuster Rang de
basanti, the audio seems to be totally for his tamil fans and commercial
ones. There are nine tracks on the whole including three remix
tracks.Lyrics penned by Vairamuthu.I'd have preferred the tracks to be in a rather
different order and probably that would have made my mind to rate it to
four stars.Fine lemme start telling about the tracks.
Ilamai(Remix),Illamai:
A track hat you can expect to be the top of the charts for its peppy-
racy style. With short rhythms and guitars backing, the song is a dance
number.Sung with pace by Suresh peters and Blaaze(a few rap bits) ,the
remix has quite the same rhythm ,but the humming tune becomes the song in
the latter(Sung by Aslam).
Kamma Karayil:
The least of the style you can expect from Naresh ,but certainly a
great delivery from him.The song is a folk styled rhtyhm based commercially
tuned ''Mass grabber''.That sentence may sound pretty odd,but a type of
song that has its presence in almost every tamil film nowadays. The
percussion has a lot of Rahman's trademark, but not the whole song.May be a
gradual creeper.
Kaatril:
The song starts as a melody sung by Sadhana and suddenly a lot of
backdrop chorus pour in chanting ''Sahiba'' and then mixes with the melody. The
real charm of the song is when S.P.Balu gets in.The Melody king makes
the stanzas a treat and tune grows on you on further listens. But I still
dint find the chorus too convincing.
Innisai(2 Remix),Innisai:
A Very Melodious classical piece,Very well rendered by Naresh(Year's
favourite of Rahman),Mahathi,Saindhavi. The chorus of this song unlike the
previous is a notable tune that appends to the classical dance
number. The interludes probably are situational that many may not appreciate
(the folk rhythm),But a different approach. And in one of the interludes we
can remember Bol Sajni's Alaap even. But that never hinders the
Beautiful rendition.
Thoothapuram:
We can say the track 'The Return of the chief cook'to the
kitchen .A high folk lore with typical south indian rhythms mixed well with
the voices of Kalpana,Leon James. The number is sure to make your feet
tap.The telugu mixed lyrics and the foot tapping number is certain to top
the charts along with the following number.
Theeyil:
My pick of the album.Sung gracefully by the master himself, the pathos
is a treat to hear. The songs interludes haunt you and so does rahman's
voice in the stanzas.Ther track stands out in the album as a number that
totally satisfies you.A real stunning tune that creeps in to your
heart.
A.R.Rahman almost tries everytime not to dissapoint his masses and
always has something in store and ''Godfather'' is one of his albums you
cannot really relish on, but sure to take your feet off the ground. But certainly not a soul-stirrer.
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
