Garam Masala is a restaurant in Phase 3B2 Mohali. I have been walking
past the restaurant ever since I came to Mohali and being single, was
waiting for an opportunity to try the restaurant. The opportunity
presented it self when my colleague and me had to go out shopping and
he agreed to try the restaurant.
We walked upto the restaurant at around 9:15PM. The doorman courteously
held open the door. The interior was decently laid out and
air-conditioned(not sure about air-conditioning, under Mohali's chill,
any cover over the head feels warm. I saw AC outlets on the ceiling
though). Interior design is nothing too garish not too plain either.
The restaurant is not too big. The interior design is pleasing to sit
and wait for he order. The chairs and sofas were comfortable and tables
were clean. Waiters were neatly dressed and soft spoken and promptly
laid out the cutlery.
The restaurant is for leisure eating and definitely not for someone in
a hurry. The menu has a small introduction on "garam masala". The
prices indicated were reasonable.
I wanted to try a cocktail and ordered one along with two plates of
different non-vegetarian starters(bagan bahar and chicken kalimirch).
My friend ordered a mocktail. Only thing is you will miss the mocktail
unless u look at the seperate menu named "bar" and read the
"non-spiked" category. I think it makes sense to have non-alcoholic
mocktails in the common menu along with juices.
The order took resonable time to be processed.
The drinks came first
and I had a vague feeling the waiters were waiting for us to finish the
drinks. We were getting impatient and asked for the starters. The
starters came a little later and were quite tasty. Pieces were
moderately sized but the chicken kali mirch was to eaten like a
drumstik.
Hindi and Punjabi music was on and was a little on a louder side but
not uncomfortable enough not to have a decent conversation.
We then ordered mutton rogan josh and rotis. The rogan josh was
excellent and really liked the taste. Quantity was adequate for two of
us but the pieces were less in number. We took approximately one and
half hour to finish the dinner. I have not tried any vegetarian stuff
and will write about it when after I go there again.
All in all, a good restaurant for a quite and leisure dinner. And they
accept cards too. I am not sure about smoking and I think if the
restaurant is crowded, there will be no place to wait.
I have not tried any vegetarian stuff and will write about it when
after I go there again.
