Well if you are thinking where to go for lunch near Howrah Station while the train might leave then Food Plaza is the best stop. It is most probably run by the Monginis food production. The best part is that it is right there in the station complex. It serves coffee, juices, snacks, cakes, sweets, meals and what not. And all of these you can get at a somewhat reasonable rate.
It is a double storey restaurant. The ground floor is Non-AC while the 1st Floor has AC. Definitely you have to pay a bit more for eating in the first floor.
The juices available here are of variety types. You can taste all of them if you want to. It depends upon who likes what. The coffee served here is ok. But never try the hot chocolate one. It tastes like Complan/Horlicks. Mochaccino was the best but now they don't have that option. Rather go for the Cappuccino.
The snacks are really good. The cakes are of Monginis's. So no complains. They are one of the bests. Sweets here are sponsored by Haldiram. So no complains either.
Both veg and non-veg meals are available here. You can get Biryani, Chicken butter masala is the best over here. There not much variety in fish item but it is good. The quantity and quality of meal served over here is really good though I feel it was better before. That is why I gave this place a 3 star. Nonetheless it is good.
You can also get rolls. They are really delicious. But don't try the paneer or the veg roll. They are a waste of money. You can also get the Vada Pah here. They are average and will suffice for an express meal.
My favourite in this place is the Dosa. Be it Plain or Masala, I loved both.
To sum up my review I must conclude by saying that this place is definitely not going to turn you off in such a congested place. One cannot imagine the rush there. In spite of that the food served is well above average. But I would love to see its quality not degrading which has already done a bit(not much).
