5best English action movies
Sep 27, 2001 05:41 AM 20496 Views

My top 5 action movies

1) Armagedon. I loved this movie and Bruce Wills does an excellent job in it. I loved seeing Tylers daughter in this movie too.. Its a show that has tons of action and you never know what will happen next

2) End of Days. Arnold plays a great cop in this movie and he is out to destroy satan himself. The ending of this movie is sad, but if it didn't end this way then the world would have ended.

3) Leathel Weapon. I loved every movie of Leathel Weapon. Danny Glover and Mel Gibbson are two great actors and they make this movie one excellent action movie.

4) 48 Hours. Eddy Murphy is so funny in this movie, I have to give this movie 3 thumbs up if I had them. This movie is not only full of action, but has lots of humor in it as well.

5) Double Impact. Jon Claude VanDam has two roles to play in this movie, he plays himself and his twin brother. This movie is full of tons of action more then I had thought when I first started to watch it. The story line is great and the acting from everyone is superb.

The nominees r.....

This is a very difficult topic and really made me think for 2 days to pick up the 5 films which I really liked, but still not sure these r on the top of my list ,bcoz there r so many of them and I really couldnt deicde as to which of the following r the best .(But before u proceed lemme tell u these r the list of movies I like rather than just action flicks…)

CLASSICS:

The Great Escape:

This is one of ''da best ''movie ,which unlike the following film 've watched only once ,but was enough to leave an unforgettable impression ,which I vividly remember even today. In nutshell ,this is based on a true story ,of a mass breakout of nearly some 70-80 Allied POW's from one of the highly guarded Nazi camp. The meticulous precise elobarate planning involving nearly hundreds of men over a period of one year, the heroic daredevilry effort on part of each of those involved in the escape, the effort put in to highlight the minutest of the details, the tragic ending (nearly 50 of them r executed as a mark of retaliation),the pace with which the movie progresses to the nerve wracking ending ,the justice to each one of the roles in the film, really makes this film an all time great.I dont remmeber all the actors but some r Richard Attenborough,Steve McQueen and Producer-Director was John Sturges.I cant believe such a film could 've been produced in 60's !!!!!              &n
bsp;
;             &n
bsp;    Some of the classics which I just cant help leaving out like Benhur, Cleopatra, GodFather, Gentlemen prefer Blondes etc etc….

WESTERNS:

The Good, the bad and the ugly:

This is another movie ,which I dont know how many times I 've watched in my house and still not bored to watch once more. It's a film that glorified the wild American west and a film always remembered whenever there is a mention of Clint Eastwood.A film by Sergio Leonne , based on a theme for the quest for a fortune worth nearly two hundred thousand dollars of gold and the means used by 3 persons to find it,which meanwhile brings out the true charecter in them ,with good played by C.Eastwood, the bad played by Lee van Cleef and the ugly played by Eli Wallach .This film has all the shades of a human nature ,oppurtunism, greed, cut throatedness etc .But what makes this film charismatic ,besides the story r the cool dialogues (''When u want to shoot, shoot, dont talk'' ), evergreen haunting tunes by Ennio Morricone, the wicked, angry, cool expressions, the famous stylish cowboy postures of C.Eastwood with cigar in his mouth ,the famous gun fights (especially the unforgettable one in the last scene ).Another fav of mine and a must see movie (and a must hear soundtrack).

SOCIAL DRAMA:

American Beauty:

The latest one which needs no review and still fresh in everybody's mind. It really makes one introspect deeply into the chaos of the present day society and what a touching film it is!! If u haven’t seen it ,make it a point not to miss it.
;             &n
bsp;
;     These are the kind of movies I just luv watching alone in VCR rather than in a movie hall,on a pretty laid back day .Some movies like Notting Hill just captives me no end .These movies have a thin story line just floating around ,allowing u to think and finally u wish the movie never ends.          Pretty Woman , Indecent proposal etc etc r some of the sweet elegant movies

ACTION:

Matrix:

Man this is an awesome movie ,which is a sin if u don’t happened to see it in theatres.(Please ,pls don’t watch such flicks in videos). Its something like Ripleys Believe-it-or-not kind of a movie ,with a very futuristic mindboggling concept ,slick actions ,and modern sci-fi technolgy squeezed out to stun the audience rather than give that funny feeling like in Star trek (which I hate).

For other action stuff ,Hollywood is full of ‘em ‘n maybe I can say Fugutive, btw does Basic Instinct fit in here??? Apart from these I luv martial flicks of Van Damne (maynot the movies tho’),a bit of barbaric side of Arnie….those James Bond stuff ….hmmm ..I will stop here.

Crash! Bang ! Boom!

I am a movie freak as you might have known by my reviews. So this is a compilation of my 5 best English action movies of all times. Action movies are so many but only a few manage to succeed and manage to capture the imagination of the audience. The 5 best action movies of mine are ( not in any order) :-

1) Terminator- The Judgement Day - An Arnie flick. What do you expect? Harley Davidsons, Huge guns, Lot of Muscle, Crashes and fires. An absolutely fantastic movie. Arnie is great as the Anroid and so is Linda Hamilton. Linda Hamilton’s action scenes in the movie were great. Arnold as the emotion less anroid was perfect and The graphics and the special effects still look good even after 10 years. An all time classic movie. It was directed by James Cameroon of the Titanic movie. Can u belive that he made such a crappy movie like Titanic after this great movie.

Cool Lines From the Movie - “ AstalaVista Baby and I’ll be Back.

2)The Matrix - A ground breaking movie in terms of special effects. Neo( Keanu Reeves) is a computer hacker and he knows that the world in which we live is not true. The truth is different. Morpheus gets him out of this ‘Matrix’ and gets him into reality and try to destroy this computer generated world called the Matrix. The bullet dodging scene is fantastic and there is a great perfomance by all the cast. The coolest line in this movie is . It was directed by the Wachowski brothers.

Cool Lines from the Movie - “ No one can be told what the Matrix is it. You have to see it for yourself.

3) The Die Hard Series - The whole triology of the die hard was really cool and it is hard to pick one from them. The action star in this series was Bruce willis and this really launched him into the big leauge. John Mc Laine is his name in the movie and is a LAPD cop who always finds himselves in the wrong place for him and the right place for us.What folllows is a lot of action and a lot of gun shooting. The action scens in this movie are tremendous to say the least and Willis had done a great job.

Cool Lines from the Movie - “ Yippi-kay-ya-kay-ya and “ Different Building, Same Elevators

4) Desperado - This is a movie starring Antonio Banderas. Antonio is a guitar player who keeps guns and bombs in his guitar case instead of a guitar and is in search of a drug lord and wants to destroy him. The drug lord is his brother. Helping him in his effort is the gorgeous Salma Hayek. The gun shooting scenes in this movie are fantastic and the scene where his two friends join him in the carnage is great. The ending of the movie is real cool. If you have seen the movie tell me what you think of the ending of the movie.

5) Atomic Train - You probably must not have heard of this movie. This is a rather a long movie. I think it is around 3 hours or so and all the 3 hours are engrossing. Here in this movie there is a train and there is an Atomic bomb on a train and it is about to go off. The train is going towards the city. They succeed in stopping the train. But Wait ! The Bomb goes off. And there is this huge nuclear holocaust. The rest oif the movie deals with how the people survive the nuclear blast and how they suffer. It is a must see.

So These are my top 5 kick-as* movies.

The are ''The Bomb'' (Literally)

The five best action movies...Wow. Now action is not my genre of choice, so when I enjoy one, it has to be unique, it really has to be a good one. I'm not one to enjoy a shoot 'em up free for all, no it has to have plot, dialogue, good acting and all other things beyond simple special effects. This is my list of the best. No particular order.

  1. Speed

Starring Keanu Reeves and introducing Sandra Bullock(Who made a name for herself with this movie)this movie, from the start, was on the edge of your seat excitement. With an original concept, this movie details the story of an obsessed ex-cop greedy for money. He tries bombing an elevator, and when the plan is foiled, he gets creative and sets a bomb on a bus, where, after it reaches 50 mph, it can't slow down or it will be blown to bits.

This movie, coupled with excellent acting and even a few amusing scenes is awesome. In a short time, we learn about a dozen or so people, stuck on a bus with one ultimate destination. We watch their desperate struggles to survive and feel the pain along with them. If you want action, rent this movie and buckle up for a thrill ride, classic, yet exciting.

  1. Indiana Jones Trilogy

Why did I like these movies, two words ''Harrison Ford''. That dashing, egotistical, arrogant, yet charming action hero swing, flies and rolls his way onto your screen with the greatest of ease. The trilogy incorporates everything in a movie, humor, romance, nazis, guns and action, all the essential elements. Indiana is on a endless quest for ancient artifacts and does nearly anything to get them. He meets his share of villians, from the sadistical nazis to oriental saboteurs. Oh, these movies are so much fun, because, just as Indiana gets himself into a tight situation, he have you laughing, then get out of it before you stop to catch your breath. Things get even more amusing as his father(Sean Connery) joins the action. It's a great series of movies, well worth my time.

3.Con Air

This romping movie had me crying at the beginning and exhaling at the end. This movie starts out in a bar, where a soldier is coming back to his wife, and they both eagerly anticipate their coming child. Then through a tragedy, Cameron Poe(Nicholas Cage) is sent to jail for a number of years. When he finally gets out, he is eager to see his wife and child, he hitches a ride on Con-Air, a plane that transports some of the most dangerous criminals across the country. Too bad for Cameron Poe, the convict manage to take over the plane and he's stuck in the middle. All he wanted to do was go home, and now he has to play hero. John Cusak is the marshall on the ground trying to track and capture the hijacked plane. John Malkovich plays the leader of the rebellious convicts.

Explosions, firepower, plane crashes, you name it, it's here in this exciting movie. Nicholas Cage again plays the soft-spoken, yet hard hitting hero. Great acting, great special effects, great movie.

  1. The Matrix

This movie broke ground with its slow motion fighting and gravity defying jumps. Another one starring Keanu Reeves. There's just something about him I guess. This movies starts quickly with a bunch of strange, other-worldly people and Neo(Reeves), whose main question is ''What is the Matrix?'' Well, I guess you'll just have to watch the movie to find out. Amazing fight scenes and effects. For those who like big guns, martial arts or any type of action mixed with a deep philosophical meaning.

  1. The Mummy/The Mummy Returns

A remake of the classic old movie that severely alters the image of the mummy, formerly a tottering zombie in rags to something more powerful, more dangerous. It start off with forbidden love, which is always a valiant theme and comes to present day with a accident prone Egyptologist(Rachel Wiesz), her brother(Johnathan Hunt) and a dashing leigonnaire(Brendan Fraser) These movies have amazing special effect, breathtaking scenery, humor and romance. Again all the vital elements. This time, it's Brendan Fraser as the wise-cracking hero. He's no Indiana Jones, in fact, there's really no comparison to be made. It's just an awesome set of movies, if you like Egypt and pyramids and supernatural creature and flesh eating scarabs, this is your movie. You might have to dump the sand out of your shoes at the end.

Other Picks:

The Mask of Zorro

The Rock

Broken Arrow

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Air Force One

That's my opinion, be aware, it's only my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

CREME DE LA CREME

Mouth shut is giving me the opportunity to list 5 best Hollywood movies.Actually they should have increased the list to 15,then maybe I could have done some justice to it.I will not number them simply because I liked all the movies. My all time favorite is TERMINATOR-2.Simply mind boggling.Although I admit a lot of it was an FX fantasy but some of the stunts were superb. All the action scenes stand out.The Indiana Jones series are equally good.Raiders of the lost Ark was mind blowing. How can you forget the Rambo series?they were marvellous. Some of you might disagree with me but I am an action movie buff.I like tha slam bang variety. If you want to enjoy some story line and some humor also then I heartily recommend the Lethal Weapon series. It stars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as two ill matched cops who somehow figure it all out and always manage to stay abreast of the bad guys. Some of the action scenes in these movies are stupendous.See the second part of the series for the superb car chases. It is almost mandatory for a Hollywood action movie to have an obligatory car chase. It is really difficult for me to list 5 movies.Lastly I will conclude by absolutely recommending the Die Hard series.simply too good.Bruce Willis is really good as the wise cracking cop who is always in the wrong place at the right time.Again the action sequences are classic. But,but, but never insult yourself by seeing these movies on the idiot-box.The beauty of the scenes is lost on the small screen. For those lucky ones who managed to see these movies on the big screen I feel happy.Try to get dvd's and see them at your friend's home theatre system or if at all you are abroad do not miss a chance to see these flicks. At least abroad they still have good prints unlike ours when we are subjected to awful prints during reruns.
