I have read quite a few FEA books and this one is easily the best out there. The fact that it is now available in India warrants this review.
The book bowled me over for the following reasons:
*1) It is comprehensive:
*No other Linear FEA book covers both statics and dynamics as this one does. While most other books tread the safe path of static FEA, this book covers the often neglected dynamic FEA very comprehensively.
*2) It is easy to understand:
*Once you get used to the notation, the book is fairly easy to read and understand. The author presents the material in a cohesive and organized manner, making it easy for the reader to imbibe all that information.
*3) Minimal errors:
*I haven't completed the book yet, but I have not come across a single error so far. While this might be the most natural thing to expect from a book by an author of such great reputation, believe me; I have seen otherwise! Hence, this is definitely a virtue of this book.
*4) It is both a textbook and a reference:
*Most books are textbooks - they explain stuff well, but miss out all the fine details. Some are references - they try hard to cram everything about the subject on hand between the two covers; often resulting in a completely unreadable book. This book is both an excellent textbook AND an excellent reference - something of a rarity.
To sum things up, this book is simply a must-have for structural engineers and students and will definitely prove itself to be invaluable many, many times.
