With gratitude would like to share the feedback on renowned nephrologist and Chairman of Manipal Health Enterprises, Dr. H.S.Ballal,
As clouds of doubt clear from our minds, it dawns on us that the raison d’être for any physician or surgeon is primarily the well-being and welfare of patients. And, seeing a patient restored to health…the paramount honor.
Years of clinical experience, a thorough up-to-date knowledge of renal medical science, an understanding of how that knowledge can and should be applied appropriately to a patient with known or suspected renal disease, coupled with the art of caring and comforting patients and their families is what makes Dr. Ballal a nephrologist par excellence.
Single-handedly he has nurtured a well-mentored team of nephrologists, dialysis technicians/nurses, transplant unit nurses, transplant coordinators and renal dietitian who assist and take care of patients with finesse. Thus, patients requiring monitoring of their renal health or who have opted for any form of renal replacement therapy are assured high-quality continuity of care. Furthermore, the transplant program is a successful one primarily due to Dr. Ballal’s skill in fostering a sense of cooperation with a highly experienced and skilled urology/surgical transplant team. Excellence in today’s highly competitive world demands more than a thorough knowledge in one’s specialist field. Dr. Ballal is blessed and gifted with drive, energy and vision admixed with sound, effective analytic ability; abreast with advances in other healthcare specialties; has the ability to select the right healthcare specialist(s), and the development of that specialist(s) department to further fuel excellent tertiary-healthcare; additionally, he is gifted with people skills - communicating, motivating, inspiring, and effectively delegating, all of which helps build teams essential for functioning of a tertiary-care hospital.
A blend of these skills, together with piety and humility is what makes Dr. H. Sudarshan Ballal a renowned nephrologist, and an outstanding leader as well – the Chairman of Manipal Health Enterprises. He is also a man whose conduct conforms to the highest standard of propriety…a gentleman! To shed light on the basis for our feedback we need to introduce ourselves: Acquaintances call me Zac. Veda is my wife. Her spiritual faith and resolute temperament during her own battles with cancer and that she was my caregiver were inspirational and instrumental in my “life-not-falling-apart, ” when diagnosed with chronic kidney failure at Manipal Hospital Bangalore, October 2011. The treatment is on-going at MHB. Initially, conservative medical management, then thrice weekly hemodialysis, culminating in a live-related donor transplant July 2017 when my cousin, 68-year-old Ms. Jaya Thomas, on her own volition gifted me a second-life. Thus, we have been exposed to multiple in-house services, doctors, technical teams and support staff, and have benefited by their care. Many in this team are personnel at the very top of the league in their area(s) of specialty and expertise…reaffirming Dr. Ballal’s skill in selecting the right healthcare specialist(s) for a tertiary-care hospital.
The warmth and assistance provided by the staff manning the help/front/admission desks, security staff, ward aides and other support staff…adds to the overall high quality of service provided.
Any large-scale enterprise will have hiccups in processes, but a discernible attempt at analyzing and correcting those error(s) plus improving on processes is another quality that sets MHB apart from other corporate run hospitals.
Dr. Ballal, we have been exposed to a remarkable physician, leader and a gentleman and would like to acknowledge past and present directors of Manipal Health Enterprises; associates and colleagues…experts in their areas of specialization; all past and present staff at MHB who have unstintingly supported your drive and vision in building MHB as a center for excellent tertiary healthcare.
For any medical professional the road to the top is an arduous one. It would be remiss on our part if we failed to acknowledge Dr. Ballal’s family for their understanding, encouragement, support, and sacrifice of family-time, without which none of this might have been achieved.
It is in the background of our personal experiences to healthcare services provided at other centers that we are able to provide this feedback…without bias. Neither is it based on any past or anticipated future favor.
