Unique place- really

Recently on a trip to Tawang with three of my friends, we had to spend a night at Dirang Fort. Do not mistake this for a hotel or a lodge. This is actually a place where a few Buddhist people stay and provide shelter to travelers and distressed in need. We had heard of this before from a friend. Since there was no other hotel or lodge nearby, we had to settle it here.

Dirang Fort was actually a jail area in the British period. But, not it is in ruins and is not used by the administration any more. The Buddhist people here have tried their best to keep it sober and liveable. There is also a monastery near the Fort, which is a good place to go and pick up some spiritual vibe.

The people living here were very friendly and they provided us food and shelter, that too for a very small amount of money. If you have to pass along that area, take some time to visit it. A nice place to experience something different.

Worth a visit

The place is located on the way to Tawang, Arunachal pradesh and we had a night halt in this place as our car was heating up.

The place is in complete ruins and most of the fort has  been occupied by the buddhist community and one can find different type of buddhist food in the fort.

The jail complex has been on complete ruins thanks to the neglecting behaviour of the local government but still one can feel the bygone era on this place. There is a small monaestery near the foot steps of the fort which is worth a visit. Inside the fort one can see walls and carvings. The place is worth a visit if you are staying in Dirang near D.basti.
