GOOD SERVICE of BSNL but soon getting outdated
Apr 29, 2005 05:09 PM 3134 Views

I am a user of DIAS . It is very fast compared to dial up. it is very reliable. price is also very low. Ever since connection it is giving value for money . I am very much satisfied. But after the lunch of DATAONE it will soon be outdated if BSNL does not make any change in price structure and download limit. the bad thing is its customer service. You can not expect a good answer from them when service is down. so it is better to wait when service is down and hope it will be up soon. one thing is for sure it is best when it is up and worst when down. I recomend DIAS for those who can spend more than RS 400 per month. It is quiet cheaper & faster than dial up and more reliable than Local cable operators internet. It is the best service of BSNL.

Have been using DIAS for almost a year now....and here is my Opinion

Application Form

Application forms is issued in your area BSNL office. Took almost a hour to get the application form. When filled up they asked to get the signature of some authority there. Unfortunaly he went to attend some meeting and when came back to get the signature next day waited for an hour and then got it signed. took the copy to my area telecom department waited for 30-40 mins to submit to Divisional Engineer and he verified the documents and it was forwared to Server administration (She is a lady).

Customer Service

Customer service was normal at the beginning and later on it got dimnished somewhere. When call them for problems the ANSWER is ''Madam is Not here Call Later''. I belive only women is maintaining the servers and Answering all the customer calls. Customer service is Poor

Speed of Connection

The Speed is 128kps Connection. Dont think it will download at 128kps. No Connection will give rate at the mentioned speed it will be divided in to ratio.

Download Rate using Getright is 13kps Persecond and Using ID man is 15kps Persecond and the Upload rate is 10-12Kps Persecond.

Suggestion

This connection is well good for ideal home users who are chat freaks and viewing webpages normally rather than downloading.

For People who usually Download a lot its better you wait for 10-20days beacuse BSNL is going to launch 256kps ADSL Connection named ''DATAONE''. Where you can change the connection speed from 256kps to 8Mps (Cant Belive it ?) Check the BSNL Site for more details.

DSL is the bomb!
Aug 23, 2003 07:38 PM 5393 Views

I was using a dial up connection for years, thinking that was all I would ever want and need. Then aol called and offered me a deal for their Dsl that was to good to pass up,(a free Dsl modem) a 99.00 dollar savings! And no connection fee, I could try it for thirty days and not be out of pocket for anything. So I though I would give it a try. Well that was the best move I ever made in my life on the net! I will never go back to dial up again, as it has opened a whole new world for me with DIAS DSL!!!!Not only does it alleviate the headaches of waiting for what seems likes hours JUST to get on line with Dial up, but downloads, uploads, surfing the net, and playing games are all so much more enjoyable! My transmission speed for a 500 KB file use to be 48 Kb/s with the dial up, and now with the Dsl its 727 kb/s! Remember that bandwidth measurements can vary somewhat from minute to minute depending on traffic at your ISP and on the internet. I can do downloads that my dial up friends take hours to do in minutes flat! I have sent files , and pictures to people , then asked them how they liked it, and they said they didnt download it cause it would have taken them 45 minutes for that particular file! I was shocked, as it only took me about about 2 minutes! I forget that they do not have the same convenience of the DSL as I do. LOL! DIAS DSL is some thing I would recommend to anyone that spends a lot of time on the computer. I have Aol as my ISP cause I love their features, and the DSL they offer is only ten more dollars than I was paying for the extra phone line I had installed for my computer use, so I could keep my phone lines open. With Dsl you have filters they give you to plug into your phone lines so you can talk on the phone, and be on the compter at the same time! And we all know how helpful it is to be able to be on line and talk to your ISP, or in my case Microsoft, in case your having problems with your computer. You dont have to write every thing down, hang up, then try to do what they said, hope it worked, and then have to call them back and start all over if what they told you to try didnt work! It has been a life saver at times for me. And your friends and family wont get a busy signal when they try to call you. I have had no problems with My Dsl at all, even when I bought a completely different style of computer , and went from Windows 98 to Windows Xp , the transition was effortless. Some of my friends have gotten DSL also after coming to my home and seeing the difference, they were so amazed. There are a lot of different DIAS providers out there, shop around, compare prices, if your on the net as much as I am you won't be sorry you you switched!

Worth my money- UPDATED AGAIN by PUBLIC DEMAND ;)
Jun 02, 2003 01:28 AM 6426 Views

4 years on Dial Up and now Freeeeeeedom !! :-) Thats the first and foremost point for me . I have been using the Internet since the time there was Lynx browsers and Shell Accounts. As the days went by , I made more and more friends all around the net using first Email , then chat rooms and then Messengers and after that Forums and messageboard. I knew that every advancement we made with having VSNL as our ISP , we were still way behind my friends over the internet. They were already using Webcams, downloading CD's , sharing via Napster and Kazaa and Listening to music via Shoutcast network and watching CNN in Real Media player . And here we were double clicking on the Shortcut to My Connection icon :(

And just using / getting a slow connection was not the pain enough , there was the very much true-to-life regularly increasing telephone bill. In the past year or two , my phone bill has seen a regular escalation from Rs.4000 to Rs.6000 and to Rs.9000.

But now with BSNL's DIAS , at last I am free to do what I want at my own luxury . I mention luxury , not just because of the speed or connectivity but also of the luxury of time . It's 24 hours unlimited , and hence I am not forced to stay up till 4 in the nite as the traffic is less then . I can watch my favourite programmes and still download stuff.

However , my using the term ''unlimited'' is not fully correct, as I am limited according to the PLAN I choose. BSNL's DIAS comes in 3 flavours :

Rs.850 per month for 500 MB transfer

Rs.1700 per month for 1.5 GB transfer &

Rs.5500 per month for Truly Unlimited.

I used to use somewhere around 4-6 hours a day normally when I was on VSNL's Dial-Up , and thus paying around 8500+ of which I will make huge savings now . Till date , I have had seamless and uninterrupted connectivity . Before the line was setup , I had major problems getting the line setup and workorder processed; But once it was done , it has been real good. I have there Support Desk numbers which are well manned . Although I have heard complaints from some other users that ''when DIAS is UP and working it is Heaven , when it is Down , it is down .'' I have not faced any major problems . But I am keeping an option open - to edit my review in days to come ... if I get any difference in service in days to come .

Also another point I need to mention here is - DIAs maybe very very cost effective for high- users like me , a bi-monthly bill of Rs.3500 may seem very high for low users .

<Update>

Support realy is not the strong point . Their After Sales Dept. do tend to work and call me up any times when everythign is smoooth. But during problems, when I call back, there's only just one guy who answers all technical question . Even then , he is not sound . I had to explain to him from scratch - what is FTP , in order to complain about the FTP service not working , while browsing an chatting was ok.

If for some weird reason , DSL connection fails (an it has in past few days) after 6 PM , I am sort of stuck till the next day 10 A.M as in between there is no Support personel I can ring up. :(

<Update # 2>

First , sorry for the delay to all those numerous MSmembers who have requested me time and again to Update / Comment on the preswent situation with DIAS . Believe me , this was long due , as much has changed .

n the previous 1 month I have been through hell using DIAS . After been a customer since the beginign days of DIAS also , in the past 1 month I have had very bad experience which changed my opinion towards the worse .

One not so fine day , my connection went kaput for which I reported to a number which I have for DIAS helpline . Since that day , I have spent almost 2 weeks trying to get them to come down to our office and even after they came and replaced the modem ... requested us to change our phoe lines , re wire the electircals all around and what not !! but still they could not pinpoint the problem , and even admited that ti was bafling them . So I went higher up and met some officer , and even figting and requesting and imploring - made no positive result . hey would say and not actualy send linemen , call up on phone and ask us to wait till the weekend was over .

In the meantime , we took a secondary Cable Internet connection as backup .... sadly , that didnt help ... they were even worse . Virus used to come in from THEIR server , which we had to LOGON to ... imagine ! On asking about it they admited saying ... you have to bear with it , since you are using Internet :p Even more horrifically , they had a File Upload or Email sending LIMIT of less than 150 KB , while Download was not capped .

Anyway , back to DIAS . After 3 weeks of hell , we finally got DIAS fixed although mysteriously , it was not pinpointed what the problem was or how it was rectified .

Hence I will again just say , what I have said before :

When DIAS is UP , it is sweet as honey , when it is DOWN , you better know How to Pray , as you will be able to nothing more than that .

DSL - Very Good / Very Bad
Feb 24, 2003 11:29 AM 4935 Views

I got DSL connection from BSNL as soon as they started to offer it( around 5 months back ), they took 3/4 days to give me the hardware. I had to shift my telephone line near the PC to get the DSL modem that took another 2 days and a bit of pleading to the local lineman. All said and done I contacted there manager who helped me over the telephone to install the connection. It started to work and work very fine, for it was the first time I was on 128 kbps always on connection. The telephone is no longer busy , I get always-on connection and am able to download big files in jiffy , talk to my relatives and friends over net and also get some softwares from peer to peer networks. Now the bad things, the customer support is almost non existent, for rs.1800 p.m. ( 2000 setup and 3000 refundable deposit )its costly, moreover other broadband connections at much lower price are on the horizon.

The connection snapped for 2 days once and was not able to get satisfactory answer from them....... the connection often snaps for 1-2 hours once every few days. but if u can bear with these issues BSNL -DIAS pretty OK and also if you dont have other broadband internet access in the area. This is my first review EVER,
