Art for All I don’t remember how I discovered this gallery but it is an awesome place. The website may be hacked so I cannot tell you much but about my visit. It is a building typical of Delhi, red brick. The outside is very Sci Fi looking. In the large area at the entrance there was a huge and wonderful sculpture, a collaborative effort, if I remember right, employing artisans from various regions of India.
Serene and Scholarly The atmosphere is very quiet though some gentle music is played near some exhibits. The restrooms are quite high class. I had hoped to spend time there but we moved to Pune. Otherwise, this is an ideal place for a person like me to sit and read a book. I can’t remember if they had a canteen.
Themes Every so often, they have an exhibition with a great theme. The artwork is well arranged for display. It is awe inspiring to visit this place.
Art for All This gallery regularly holds workshops for schools and other organisations. It is such a great initiative to bring children to this haven of contemporary and folk art.
About the Agenda The Devi Art Foundation was set up to open to the public viewing of creative expression and artistic practice in India. It is a nonprofit space for innovation unconstrained by commercial limitations, an art center for regional artists trying out experimental work. A platform for contemporary artists, it interacts with and encourages young curators and critics.
Undermining Geopolitical Divides The objective is to create dialogue among artists. Talks and lectures accompany exhibitions. There is also an education and outreach program to encourage a culture of art. The focus is on two exhibitions per year( curated from the Lekha and Anupam Poddar Collection).
Layout Housed on the premises of a corporate office, it covers two floors(area of 7, 500 square feet).
