Daydream - Mariah Carey Movie Reviews

Yet Another Classic Album

Mariah Carey's fourth album, Daydream is just as good as the three that proceeded it! Starting out on a dancy note, Mariah soars on Fantasy! The song is uplifting and very dancy! Some radio stations played the awsome remix to this great song as well! Mariah has two versions of this great song, which you are able to get on her Remixes album she released a couple of years ago! She has rapper O.D B. help her out on it! Also what makes Fantasy so super cool is, she sampled a song from the 80's called Genius Of Love, which will certainly take you back to the all skates you used to do! So if parts of Fantasy sound familar, that is why! Great sampling here! Mariah also uses the original chorus for the most part on the O.D. B. remix! Either the lp or remix are both great! Underneath The Stars, the song that follows behind Fantasy, is a great soulful ballad! This song sort of reminds you of the greats who came before Mariah! This has sort of Donna Summer or Diana Ross sort of feel to it! Sounds very retro, but at the same time, so modern! Too bad this great song did not make it to radio! Mariah really takes you on this vocal ride! She glides so easily though the entire song! Making this a major highlight here! One Sweet Day follows right behind! The #1 smash for Mariah and Boyz II Men! This amazing single stayed on the charts for many weeks! A record breaking single for Mariah and her co creators of this great song! Boyz II Men really harmonize well with Mariah and the lyrics are deep and rich! Makes you wish to see the lost loved ones in your life! Even though this song may leave you in tears, it will also bring a smile to your face when you think of the loved ones you dearly remember! This is Daydream's biggest single! Mariah remakes yet another classic on this great cd! Reviving the big hit Journey is certainly remembered for, Open Arms, Mariah does this song justice too! Why this song was never pushed out to radio is certainly a mystery! This would have been a grammy winning single had it been! Mariah has done many remakes in her time, and each time she never fails a remake! Two Thumbs for Open Arms! I consider this a major highlight here and on a personal note, I find it being one of my favorites of all time! If I were in charge of marketing a Mariah Carey All Time Best Album, well this one certainly belongs in the mix! I sure hoped Steve Perry of Journey heard this remake of the song! If he has, I am sure he felt proud Mariah Carey brought to life with her own vision! Next we come to the top 10 mega hit, Always Be My Baby! Great song! Not too dancy, but not too slow! Mariah takes on a mediocre song here! She just grabs you vocally and it is just a fun song to listen to! The harmony here is amazing and rich! Yet another personal favorite of mine! I Am Free is right behind Always Be My Baby, a great track with a soulful feel! This song has sort of a gospel feel! Just listening to this song, you can almost ask yourself, did Mariah put on a religious track??? It almost sounds like it here! The lyrics really leave you wondering! It is not a love song! No matter the subject matter, she just captivates you here! Certainly a great song to listen to! When I Saw You, the song that comes in right behind I Am Free, has this 50's feel! Just one of the two on this album that does! Great track, great music, and beautifully sung! A song like this really defines Mariah as a diva! Long Ago is an upbeat track that makes you want to get down on the floor! This is probably where she starts the change that later comes into Butterfly! It is different, but yet still a great track! Melt Away, she teams up once again with teams up with the brilliant Babyface! Great track, and once again Babyface backs up Mariah! Mariah and Babyface certainly know how to keep the magic in their partnership of a song! Forever is the other song with a slight 50's feel! A beautiful track! She takes you on a vocal roller coaster ride here! Unfortuneatly this song did not soar as high as other songs, but no matter, this song certainly has a great feel and is a personal fave of mine, hopefully this will a fave or yours too! Not much can be said about the Daydream Interlude on this album! It is not a bad track, just alot of vocalizing and an upbeat feel! It does not bore you, just not enough there to really go into, if you like club mixes, this certainly belongs in the clubs! It is fun and playful! Looking In closes out the album! This song is so different for Mariah lyrically! I believe she is talking about the superstar vs the real person Mariah is! She is sayin here to the listener that no matter how high her fame is, we the listeners or the fans do not really know Mariah Carey! It sounds very autobiographical lyrically! It is almost a haunting song, but yet very beautiful and dark! Over all this cd is great and it is one you will want to play time and time again!
