Contraband - Velvet Revolver Movie Reviews

Guns N Roses without Axl Rose
Feb 10, 2005 11:41 AM 2202 Views

So the album echoes like any other GN'R album, of course, without Axl Rose lending his vocals for a change. But I'd still give it a 5 star rating simply because it rocks! Scott Weiland has done a great job in replacing the hard, coarse chords of Axl Rose. In fact, some of the songs have a lot of STP (Stone Temple Pilots - Scotts old band) feel to them.

So lets take a look at the CD Contraband Velvet Revolver- each song at a time:

1) Sucker Train Blues - This one kicks in slowly into a roar, with a good punk rock feel to it.

2) Do It For The Kids - This is one of the best songs on the CD if you dont mind the explicit https://lyrics. Great chorus.

3) Big Machine - My personal favorite on the CD. Got a great grunge/punk/industrial feel to it.

4) Illegal I Song - This has more of a grunge feel - the STP influence is noticeable.

5) Spectacle - This one is rescued by the guitarists. The vocals are weak. *

6) Fall To Pieces - Great ballad. Not (yet) in the class of a GNR ballad. But still, worth listening again and again.

7) Headspace - This one's got some spunk! Reminds me of Locomotive(UYI-1). Great song.

8) Superhuman - I suspect this song may be their next video after Slither and Fall To Pieces. The vocals and guitar riff in stereo are awesome. Really stands out! 9) Set Me Free - Another grunge/punk effect at work. A lot like GNR's earlier work in AFD. Great guitar riff!

10) You Got No Right - Well after all the power percussion thumping and guitar strumming, this one is a surprise. Melodious and finally, Scott can be proud of his vocal talent!

11) Slither - This was their first single released on the airwaves (although I think they did a song for the movie Hulk). Again the grunge/punk influence is clear. Slash owns this song with his guitar!

12) Dirty Little Thing - Another hard hitting song. Slash, Dave and Duff really work their picks on this one!

13) Loving The Alien - Another slow ballad. Probably the only song in the album with an accoustic feel to it. Great song.

Overall, I highly recommend this album to anyone who enjoys a good old rock n' roll album. Hopefully this might be a cue for Axl Rose to wake up and release his new material (Chinese Democracy).
