Coconut GroveResto Bar, Camp, Pune Reviews

Goooood Fish...with alcohol
Jul 09, 2015 02:38 PM 1577 Views

Coconut Grove has been my favorite hotel since last 4 years. I have visited their quite often. If you are around Pune station area and looking for a place to drink and spend some good time having good food, this is the place for you.

The ambiance is nice with mood lighting. Not very calm and quite place but definitely better than the bars around.

This place is famous for the fish they serve. Amazing fish variety with your vodka preferably or whisky. Rates are not too expensive but you might have to spend few extra bucks for your fish. Not very crowded so no need of reservation. Staff is friendly and make sure you enjoy your time. You can even take family their but I don't think carrying kids their is a good idea.

Groove to this restaurant!

Coconut grove lives up to its promise of that quintessential coastal aliment and mangalorean cusine! We had some surmai lasuni and promfet fry for starters. both of them were lovely . chicken shorba was minuscule on spicy side but was tasty.

Appam and Butter Chicken is their best combo. They guide you and accommodate with authentic curries. chicken shorba was diminutive on spicy side but was tasty.

Overall, a must visit. Vallet parking is available here, so no worries about the surrounding crowd.

Horrible Service worst place to be

This place is located at a very strategic location so it is supposed to be quite well managed and customer centric to set it apart.but on the contrary it is a place which is totally unmanaged & no orientation towards services.half the tables are kept reserved for unseen guests for as long as 2-3hrs. Instructions given while ordering the food are never ever followed, and you cannot expect to give feedback or put complain on the same, they'll have enough arguments to put in.and if at all you are lucky in proving your point then they'll replace it or again another argument you're into.

Like my friend ordered 1 fresh lime, they brought 1/2.when we pointed out initially they're not agreeing later when they did, tried giving us 1/8th portion more, for no good reasons!! We said let it be we don't need more, please charge for half only, to our surprise the response was- how come you'll be charged for half, when you ordered 1?And he admitted it was his mistake so what..later after a heated discussion they replaced it with weird faces and a smirk.

This is just a small instance..there are many more. but today I've decided will not be going there, will prefer take away only.these days small time restaurants provide so good service that such mediocre ones lack in terribly..

Lousy customer service

Coconut grove restaurant at maldhakka chowk has the most pathetic service I have ever been to. The place has decent food however the waiters and management staff is extremely unfriendly, rude and non welcoming. This I have experienced not once but over the last 3-4 times that I went to the place.

All in all, customer orientation wise the restaurant is completely zero and they definitely need to train their staff on how to attend to guests.

Coconut grove is not what it was

We went to CG after hearing a lot about the food by some of our friends who had dined there before. but I must confess that the experience was far from pleasant. firstly the service is very slow and improper. you order a drink and a snack and it takes about 30 minutes for the drink to surface( beer and solkadi) and this was at about 1400 hrs in the afternoon. there were more waiters than customers. the snacks were nothing great to write about and if you put simply they were absolutely pathetic. the thigs went from bad to worse with each passing moment and I stuck out till the end just to see how misorganised the staff can be. we ordered the food and asked for a couple of mangalorean dishes with appam. the chicken was all bones and no meat and when the waiter was asked the reason the reply was that some pieces were with bones and nothing could be for that. so the next logical step. the manager! manager the great had a great reason for the bones sans chicken. manglorean dishes are supposed to be with a lot of bones. great explanation. there were many such things like the staff had to be reminded several times for water. even the water in the finger bowl was dirty and I preferred to just wipe my hands and wash them later

the owner, somebody called mr Adarsh, was not avalable for comment and there was no way you could get a suggestion book. probably the fact that they do no have a suggestion book is because they dont care about the opinions of regular customers and are concerned only with a select few who can get them good reviews

advice you to visit this hotel only if you have a lot of time, like a warm beer and a cold soup. bones for meals and dirty water to wash your hands. also not to mention the fact that for these you end up burning a crater in the pocket.

one more thing -no parking space available.tsch tsch

Go pamper yourself

During my lifetime in Pune ... I have been to lots of restaurants ... and I mean LOTS ... and I am happy to say that Pune has its nice share of eating joints with enough variety to keep everyone happy - both Vegetarians and Non Vegetarians.

One of the places that we bumped to of late is Coconut Grove.

It's surprising that not many people have heard of it ... but those who have, will swear that it is one of the best places to eat in Pune. Period.

It is situated just ahead of the Ambedkar Bhavan ( on the next lane ) while going towards Corporation from Station. ( Ambedkar Bhavan is on the Sasoon Road )

Anyways, enough with the directions.

What struck me the first thing when we went there was the service.

They don't have tonnes of parking space ... so all the parking is Valet. Haven't seen this lots in Pune.

When you enter, you find the ambience very soothing. The place is bathed in soft yellow lights with nicely arranged seating.

The lights on the floor above are slightly brighter and make it a perfect family joint.

The seats are comfortable and the temperature is controlled - so its a nice place to be.

The waiters are very prompt and the service is again, excellent.

You basically don't have to tell them anything else except the order, everything is taken care off ... Quite a few things are complementary with other items .. which is a nice surprise for people visiting it for the first time.

This, finally gets us to the food part.

The food is flawless ... Even after visiting the joint so many times, I have never found any food item to be bad ... or even mediocre ... It was good !

The quantity is also sumptuous and you are not left out feeling cheated :) The place specialises in Konkan - Sea food ... but they also have fares from other food genres.

Though you wont get the plain Dosa which you'd get at the local Udipi joint, you can pamper and treat yourself to more exotic Konkan fare which you'd probably not find anywhere else.

My mom and brother love the Konkan food there, while me and my dad don't mind blissfully pigging out on the Mughlai fare.

Though the pricing is a touch on the higher side, but when it comes to value for money, no other place comes even close.

A must visit if you're in Pune anytime, and I guarantee you cant help but fall in love with the place.
