Being a sucker for freebies I was more than delighted when I received a handful of sachets of Clairol’s new Daily Defense shampoo in the local free newspaper. I would guess I was only supposed to receive one but I think the younger member of society delivering the goods was a little peeved in inserting these into each and every paper and so to save time and effort simply stuffed a few into each to rid of them. Oh well, I’m not complaining I thought and set them aside for later that day when the chore of washing one’s hair came around.
Although I only have an almost chin-length bob of highlighted hair you wouldn’t believe the trouble I have found in succeeding in the search for a shampoo that will leave it feeling fresh, clean and de-tangled afterwards.
So, OK I thought setting aside my new Wilko’s coconut shampoo in eager anticipation to put this freebie to work. I’m not expecting miracles but I admit to having faith in Clairol, being a leading name and all.
THE SHAMPOO
OK the shampoo is a thick clear goo that smells absolutely gorgeous, very fruity and fresh. The free sample sachets that they arrived in were silver in design with the same logo as the bottles on, but were very difficult to get into…
Being thick in texture you only need a small amount and it works well into a lather.
You can buy a 200ml bottle of any variation of either the shampoo or conditioner for £2.19 in Tesco’s (which coincidentally are BOGOF at the moment – yeeha!).
TACKLING SACHET
Step 1. Tear open sachet along perforations..
Step 2. When step 1 fails because perforations don’t work, call out to Fiancé for scissors..
Step 3. Thank Fiancé and without causing injury carefully cut along dotted line where perforations were supposed to be and rid of scissors and sachet top in basin ..
Step 4. Aim ‘now’ open top of sachet into one’s left hand and squeeze with all your might..
Step 5. Set sachet free to float in the bath, but beware the sachets have sharp edges and so will easily slice warm and soft skin <ouch> and use shampoo as normal.
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
Rub ample amount of shampoo into wet hair for a couple of minutes and then thoroughly rinse with clean warm water. As everyone has different hair types including lengths and those with colour treated or perms it is advisable with some shampoos that you wash and thoroughly rinse twice prior to any conditioning treatment.
OUTCOME
Unfortunately for me this was an extreme disappointment as it left my hair feeling like a rough and matted toupee. Where I thought I was having a good scrub and giving my hair a ‘good’ going over making sure the styling mousse and hairspray was removed, I was indeed creating my own matted masterpiece! The shampoo was unable to leave my hair tangle free and feeling light and fresh, instead it left me searching for my Wilko’s coconut shampoo that had been pushed aside (sorry Wilko’s) and with a simply GROSS film on my hair – YUK!
I’m not aiming to put anybody off of using this product but being that I consider this shampoo to be quite expensive when not on BOGOF, I would recommend that you try a sample sachet/bottle first before wasting your money and being left with hair that looks fresh from bed instead of the salon!
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
