TheCinnamon at the Trident Hilton,
Things have obviously changed at the Trident Hilton. Once it was a place you passed by on the way to or from the airport. Though you can still see many airline uniforms flitting about, the hotel is not just a place where people transiting Madras airport can get a bite. There is a noticeable change especially in the food – just try a meal at the Cinnamon.
The first thing you notice is that the staff accompanies you to the buffet; the restaurant believes that the little plastic boards that you usually find near each dish are too impersonal. Some one comes with you and tells you what each dish is. Besides adding a personal touch, itis also helps the guest to know what some of the unidentifiable ones are.
The spread is lavish without going completely overboard on the number of dishes. While you are not bewildered for choice, there is something for everyone, and most ofthe stuff was good.
We began our meal with the Gazpacho and mutton soup neither of which thrilled the palate. However, with the dim sum one had to remind oneself that starters should not become a meal, however tasty they are ! Potatos, in the form of Dum Aloo and Potato Lyonaise, were excellent. A bake with mushroom, sweet corn and spinach with a cheese topping remains in the memory.
Ify ou are not sure of how cholesterol is spelt, you would have enjoyed the beef tenderloin as well as the Mutton (Rogan josh was it ?) and the chicken haryali. Each one demanded second helpings.
The Calamari salad, which raised one’s expectations, ultimately did not win accolades. The noodles won acclaim and the sambar, rice and south Indian vegetables were appreciated.
The healthy options, included a selection of acceptable salads, a variety of sprouts and a drink; the last was definitely not a treat for the taste buds, while the pineapple juice was excellent.
The desserts selection was quite good, with the profiterole remaining in the memory while the cheesecake was forgettable. The total absence of sugar free desserts was a serious disappointment in these health conscious days.
We rounded off the meal with coffee; those who chose filter coffee and others who opted or the fresh brewed were quite happy.
AsI said earlier, this is not just a place near the airport but somewhere you cango out to eat. If you can afford the five star rates that is!
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
